Great versatile piece
November 01, 2011

This piece can be worn as a skirt as shown in the pictures or as a dress by turning it so that the the strings on the side (as a skirt) tie around your neck. Its a great lightweight, versatile travel piece. It has a flattering fit.

Pros: Great design, Ease of use, Great value

Love it

I think that this skirt is fantastic. I am giving it a 4 out of 5 because it is a little see-through.

KAMALA SKIRT
March 11, 2011

Fun to wear. Easy. Fabric stretches and is slippery = tops fall nicely over. Good color for spring. Made pretty well, but probably won't last forever. More of a fun purchase for hot weather. Easy to hand wash and take travelling. Dries fast. Overpriced for what it is.

light weight and comfortable
June 16, 2009

I live in San Diego where it can be quite warm, great for a day after the beach or at the beach. The fabric feels nice on your skin and for me it is the perfect length. I agree with ordering a smaller size. If I didn't read the reviews, I would have ordered a med, glad I got the small. 5'4 135lbs

Cute summer skirt
April 22, 2009

Just got the skirts in the mail - ordered the xs in plum and espresso color. The color is very pretty/vibrant. It fits fine as a skirt. However, I thought the material was very thin. Tried it on as a dress and I wouldn't wear it as a dress. I'm not big on top, but it didn't offer enough coverage! Unfortunately, I will be returning them to look for something thicker. If you don't mind the thin fabric, it's really cute!

Awesome skirt/dress. You can wear this over your swimsuit at the beach, with a tank as a skirt, or put a pair of leggings underneath for colder weather. It's very comfortable, and versatile- great for travel

Awesome travel dress!
September 11, 2011

I purchased the grey and the pink striped, shortly before a vacation that involved lots of driving, camping, and biking. This skirt/dress was perfect! The dress in grey was nice enough for some nice restaurants, and functioned perfectly over a bathing suit for a day at the shore. I wore the skirt for full days of driving, full days of touristy cycling, and for bumming around camp. Both ways to wear it are super flattering. It also packs very compactly. I really love it for travel like this, and would definitely buy other colors. I've even worn the dress to work under a cardigan. My complaints are that it fits a little large, and I found that if I wore it as a skirt first, it was too stretched out as a dress. I'm 5'10", 150 lbs, and the medium is a little loose. Also, when I washed the grey one (Woolite, gentle cycle), and hung it to dry, the hem is now noticeable asymmetrical. It doesn't look bad, it just didn't start out that way.

Pros: Great design, Performance, Great value

Super comfy and cute. I really did wear it all summer. Was cool and easy to move in. I am sad the weather has cooled off and i have retired this skirt to my closet for the winter!!!!!!

Perfect Skirt/Dress
June 09, 2010

Everything about this skirt/dress is great: tea length skirt, just at knee dress, beautiful flared cut. Soft, lightweight, but forgiving fabric. I ordered 1 size smaller so it would stay up as a dress and I am not small chested, but pretty balanced. Washes very nicely - hung it to dry. It's gonna be great for travel.

Nice Style - Beware of Bright Color
March 31, 2012

This skirt appeared to be the perfect skirt for travel--light-weight, dressy or casual, easy care. However, the color was far brighter than it appeared to be on-line. Therefore, I am returning it, but may consider the black version. I am usually a 10-12 in skirts and pants, and I found the medium to fit well. However, the waist band does emphasize that part of the body so take that into consideration if you are dealing with "mommy fluff", muffin tops or whatever. If I reorder, I may consider moving up to the large for that reason. I can't really speak to durability, hence the average rating in that area.

Pros: Great design, good for travel, Cons: very bright color on the print version

Great travel skirt
May 24, 2011

I bought this skirt for travel, especially for touring cathedrals in Italy. It is lightweight and cool and hangs nicely. I am 5'9" and 140 lbs and the M fits perfectly. When I wear it with the top band flat (not folded), the hem hits about 4 inches above my ankles. When the band is folded completely over, it hits just below my knees -- very versatile in length. It washes well and looks pretty good straight out of the dryer, but looks a little better when touched up with an iron.

Sweet Skirt
October 14, 2010

Very adorable and versatile skirt-- the floral pattern is pretty without being overwhelmingly girly. The skirt looks as cute with a pair of sandals as it does with heels, and is super comfortable. I ordered my usual size of medium, but perhaps could wear a small. It is somewhat roomy in the waist and sits fairly low on my hips. It's a bit long for my 5'3" frame, but I am quite happy with the purchase!

feminine, comfortable and flattering
June 20, 2010

Really love it. The skirt fits perfectly- I vary between a 6 and 8, and am tall with curvy hips. Fabric is flowy, not clingy, but thick enough it is not see through. Didn't know it could be worn as a dress, I'll try it.

Cute, nice design but...SEE-THROUGH!!
June 18, 2008

Just got the Kamala in shell pink. It fits perfectly, it's really cute, but the fabric is too thin... This is surprising /disappointing since it is a Patagonia. I will return it and hopefully be able to get this skirt in a darker color, or get a refund.

Perfect for Summer Travels
May 18, 2012

I was looking for a light-weight, wrinkle-free, knee-length skirt for a trip to Vietnam and Japan this Summer. I've read a lot about the durability of Patagonia products and also wanted to support a company with an admirable business philosophy. The Kamala skirt made with Organic cotton was the perfect choice! I'm 5'6" and weigh 157 lbs and ordered the size medium in black. The skirt came out of the bag and was wrinkle-free! The fabric is cool but high quality so it holds its shape and is not see-through. I wore it the next day as a skirt and at first the waist felt a little snug, but after wearing for about an hour, the fabric sort of loosens and it was very comfortable for the rest of the day! I love the softness of the fabric and the black color was so elegant. And talk about versatility! I would wear it as a halter dress for casual occasions, or pair with a cardigan for evenings out. This will be wonderful on my trip and I am on the lookout for more pieces made with this material! It's great!

Pros: Great design, Build quality

Most versitile skirt
January 25, 2011

I own four of these skirts: two in medium, two in small. My weight fluctuates and the medium slides down sometimes and is too large, but the small too tight if I am a bit bloated. I am 5 ft 6 and weigh 110-115. Waist band ultra comfortable but downside is it shows your tummy buldges. So I wear a long top over it to hide my tummy or for dress, a jacket. Unless you have a totally flat stomach, you may want to cover the waistband. It doubles for beach or dress up! It travels well without alot of wrinkling and doubles as a summer dress (tie around neck) which on the hottest days is wonderful! It is so amazingly comfortable I wear it even in the Michigan winters around the house, but could also wear it for events in the summer. Actually, due to the organic cotton, I put it on as a dress on the hottest days and it's totally cooling. I adore it's unique design, like a transformer toy...now it's a skirt, now it's a dress!

Wonderful dress/skirt. The color is vibrant and very beautiful. The lenght make it versatile. Although lots of review said that it runs big, for me my usual small was perfect.

NOT FOR ME
April 27, 2010

Love all my other Patagonia skirts. But this one was way too small for me. I ordered my normal "medium" and it was a lot too small. Don't know if it was just me, or the skirt is cut more narrow than the others. Sadly, it had to go back. Cute, cute fabric though!! Bright and cheery print.

April 17, 2011

The Kamala skirt is one of the most versatile pieces of clothing I will ever own. For a trip to Asia, I just plan to bring a couple of shrugs for when it's a dress and a few tank tops for when it's a skirt. Had to size down like a lot of other reviewers recommended.

love it!
July 05, 2010

I wear size 6 pants and bought a small in the pink hyacinth print, it is perfect. Comfy in the warm weather but still looks a little dressy. I love it so much I think I wore 4-5 times in the two weeks after I got it. I haven't worn it as a dress, but the front is a bit shorter than the back due to how a halter dress works. Wouldn't stop me from wearing it that way, though.

February 08, 2012

The dress itself is comfortable and easy to wear. However, the color doesn't look good on me. ( I guess Asian women don't look good with "green", it makes me look pale.)

Pros: comfortable, easy to wear, Cons: the color may not suit everyone

Excellent travel skirt
April 27, 2010

I took this skirt on a trip to Africa last month where I wore it a lot. The fabric is super comfortable, and it worked well with all my t-shirts and tanks. It did stretch out after a week of use, which didn't bother me. Next time I would get a size smaller, however.

A Must Have!
February 16, 2011

I didn't buy this at first because of the price. Wow I'm glad I did. Worth it at twice the price. A modest skirt huge on style, not frumpy because of the drape and way it sits on the hips. Great as a dress- at 41 I wasn't sure I could pull it off but was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't too skimpy. Great material perfect fit. I usually order up with patagonia but I ordered down with this. Gonna buy another!

Great skirt - good dress.
May 05, 2009

I love this as a skirt! Very comfortable and looks wonderful. I have been able to wear it throughout my pregnancy so far and am certain that I will be wearing it to the end. I agree with other reviewers that the material is a bit thin for wearing as a dress and the coverage on top can be a little less than desirable. However, I like it enough that I am thinking about ordering another in a different color.

January 22, 2011

A Great Choice!
April 25, 2011

The Kamala skirt is a great choice. It fits beautifully as a skirt and as a sundress. I wear a standard size 10 and the medium was a perfect fit. Wrinkles fall out easily when traveling. This piece can be dressed up or down with a scarf or leggings, and can be worn year round.

Good all around skirt
July 02, 2010

Great skirt. Very diverse. Looks cute with a tank top or t-shirt, and even a fancy blouse. If you dare...the skirt looks great as a sleeveless sundress! Perfect length!

Great buy!
June 10, 2008

This skirt/dress is fantastic for many different occasions- that is the beauty of Patagonia clothing! My only concern is that the top is not as form fitting as it looks in the pictures, you might need some extra support.

great skirt
June 03, 2010

I really like this skirt. The material is so soft and comfortable. I am 5'5" 128 lbs and bought a small based on other reviews. It fits perfectly as both a skirt and a dress. As a dress, it falls right about to my knees or slightly above. Larger breasted women (such as myself) will definitely need a strapless bra underneath when wearing as a dress. They hyacinth northern light print is beautiful. I see there are now other prints/colors available so I may order another :-)

thumbs up!

This skirt is very fun and flirty. Dries quickly so don't be afraid to get it dirty. I ordered a small but wish i ordered an Xsmall. As the day went on, the skirt started to slide down my hips:(

July 30, 2009

i love this skirt so much, that i actually went back and bought a second one. i wear them pretty much every day, sometimes as a dress. they are so lightweight, comfortable and versatile. i may actually buy a 3rd in another color. only issues, so minor that it would never stop me from purchasing: gets stretched out pretty quickly and the pink one is a little see-through, so you have to remember to wear lighter underwear.

love it and highly recommend, but...
December 05, 2010

Do buy this skirt! it is amazing - fabulous fabric, great look, I get compliments all the time! BUT - do heed the advice given by pretty much every reviewer and buy a size OR TWO smaller - it stretches. I am 130 lbs, 5'7' - so normally i'm a small or even a medium. I bought this skirt in XS - and it fits just right.

This makes an awesome dress and skirt. I bought a coffee colored one for a vacation and settled on a size too big (I'm a medium and I ordered a large, because it was all I could find). It was waaayyy too big. I still love it...I since ordered a plum medium and it is perfect!...I would definitely order to your size.

Skirt That Does It All
March 03, 2011

I was a bit hesitant to buy this skirt due to the price. I got it on sale but it still wasn't cheap. However after bringing it to Thailand and Cambodia I decided it was worth every penny. The skirt travels well and the wrinkles shake right out, even after being stuffed in a backpack. It can be dressed up with a nice shirt or dressed down with a performance shirt and flip flops. It also works well as a beach cover up. The skirt it comfortable and flattering even on my somewhat chunky frame.

Looked much cuter in the picture
May 25, 2011

I bought this skirt in meditation green, and just didn't like the print very much when I saw it in person. The skirt was also longer and baggier than I thought it would be (guess I should have paid closer attention to the measurements!) I didn't like the length as a skirt and when tried as a dress, my tiny frame was just lost in the billowy material. Had to return it. It did feel comfy though!

very versatile
July 28, 2009

I got this to throw over my swimsuit on vacation. The academic blue color is very pretty. Haven't worn it yet to see if it stretches out as the other reviewers said. I like the cut and how it can be worn as a dress or a skirt. If it works well, I might order another in brown.

Great quality and color!
October 22, 2010

As usual Patagonia does not disappoint with their superb quality, fabric and color choice. This skirt is comfortable no matter the time of day or weather. As stated in a previous review, it is a bit loose fitting after awhile, but I haven't encountered any major problems with that-- most clothes stretch out over the day as it is. I haven't ventured out in public wearing it as a dress yet, but at home it fits well with a strapless bra underneath. I'm thinking I will wear it out with a yellow sweater sometime and see what I think. Overall this is a cute and versatile piece that I will happily wear for years to come!

Great Skirt! The fit is very flattering. I will definitely be ordering another color.

Needs elastic, better fit around waist
July 07, 2010

I really love the fabric of this skirt, so I bought two. Unfortunately the fabric stretches with wear; by the end of the day, I have to use wrap the tie around my waist just to keep the skirt up. Since this is a pull-up style, it needs to be forgiving enough to fit over the hips, but snug enough to stay up and that's where it fails me. I would rather have elastic in the waist than the tie, which only pulls the waist in a little. I'm 5'4", 120-130 lbs, ordered a medium (tried a small on in store and it was too snug ... but maybe that would have been the way to go since it stretches so much). Even tried rolling the waistband for a tighter fit and it just looks bulky.

perfect summer skirt!
June 25, 2008

This skirt is so comfortable and cute! It has a very flattering fit around the waist-the foldover. And yes, you should order one size smaller than you are because it does stretch. BUT I love it so much I ordered another!
