Wife Loves it...
December 26, 2011

My wife loves this dress and wears it throughout the year. She has commented that it has great coverage and a flattering cut...I agree. She layers it with various other items, she can wear a sweater over it, and generally uses it in ever season.

Not Worth It
March 01, 2011

I love Patagonia, but this dress fis like a glove- in a bad way. Some dresses (like the Morning Glory dress and Bandha dress), fit tight and still manage to be flattering- not this one! I even ordered a size up (L) for my 5'8" 150 frame, but still found the dress to be clingy. It seems like, though, each season the fabric changes a bit, so I may try ordering this again next season. I want to love it- particularly the cut at the top, but it's just a bit too short and a lot too tight! I returned it after leaving it in the closet for a week, hoping it would grow on me...I hate returning a patagonia product!

Cons: Bad design

Wear a cami underneath!
November 05, 2010

I bought the L/S .I am 5'6" 150lbs. I wear a C cup and I really recommend having a cami on hand for this dress. I wore a casual vest with it to be a little less "showy" in the the chest region. It fits beautifully, tight at the ribcage, but reaches across my shoulders without stretching. I have muscular arms, so the fabric is tight but allowed free movement with the 3/4 sleeve. The length is just right to wear with knee high boots to show just my knee. I really like the texture of the fabric, its very soft and casual.

Pros: Build quality, Ease of use, Cons: bust cut too low

Great dress!
April 14, 2011

I love the Margot dress. It is great for professional or casual wear by changing accessories or shoes. It has a nice flattering fit. It is tight in all the right places. The V in the front is cut LOW. I wear a cami and often a scarf to work to minimize cleavage. For more casual or nights out, I wear dress only. The high waist line and A-line hem make the dress comfortable without looking baggy or ill-fitted. Some reviewers have commented on the tightness of the top. I find the dress to be fitted but not uncomfortable. I'm 5'6" and 130 and wear a D cup bra. I bought a size small in the dress. I think the top fits perfectly. The sleeves are tight, but the dress would look odd if they weren't. The length hits me at the knee (inseam 30-31"). This dress always gets compliments when I wear it. It's my go to dress for most occassions. I highly recommend it!

Beautiful, versatile dress
July 08, 2012

Got this dress in the Prussian Blue. Gorgeous color, got a lot of compliments while wearing this. It washes very easily. I try to air dry it when I can to keep the colors vibrant. The 3/4 length sleeve makes this very appropriate for a more formal setting as well as for many different temperatures. This is an easy dress to pull on when I know I need to look nice for something, but it is still casual and comfortable enough just to wear out and about. Love Patagonia clothing. This is another winner for me. It runs true to size. I am 5'3", 117lbs and the size small fits perfectly.

Fun dress, pair up or down
June 19, 2011

Love this fun dress. Need to wear something underneath on top, which can be a tank or long sleeves. Worn with tights and boots or clogs in the winter/spring. The length ends up being a little short as I'm long-wasted, 5'8" overall. When you need something dressy but want to feel casual this is a great choice. Accessorize to suit occasion or mood.

A Beautiful, Comfortable Dress
June 06, 2011

This dress is great! This dress fits like a Patagonia dress, if you are familiar with their line. I have read reviews that say they can fit tight and people sometimes have to size up, but personally I wear a medium in everything and I bought a medium in this dress. I am 5'7, 130 pounds with an athletic build. It does fit tight around the waist so if you are self conscious about your stomach at all, I would size up. The V cut also comes somewhat low, but I am still completely comfortable wearing the dress without an undershirt. From the waist down it is the perfect length and cut, falling right above my knees. The material is good and very comfortable, but not as moisture wicking as I would like when I am hiking around. I bought this dress in the Goji berry color, which is beautiful. Not too red, but a more natural tone.

Pros: Great design, Great value

medium too big
June 12, 2010

I didn't really like this dress as much as I thought I would. I ordered a medium based on other reviews of the sleeves being tight. I am 5'5" 128 lbs and unfortunately, the entire dress was too big. I had plenty of room in the sleeves (even though I have bigger arms). It is also very low cut, but wearing a cami underneath can fix that problem. I am sending the medium back, but I may try a small and see if it fits any better.

Great little dress
February 05, 2010

This is a cute little number. It fits perfectly. I am 5'7" and 130lbs. The medium worked for me. The v-neck is low but looks great with a camisole.

Very cute - casual/professional
February 03, 2010

This dress is very versatile, it can be casual, super hang out dress, or professional looking. I wore mine to a work interview with a scarf and my future boss actually complemented my great looking outfit. I think it goes with most seasons and many different types of shoes or boots depending on the season. It also fits great! I just wish I would have bought it earlier!

Great dress, can dress up or down.
November 06, 2009

Highly recommend the margot dress. It fits well, and it is well made. A true staple, simple black dress. The sizing is consistent with other patagonia women's clothing. Go for it!

Love this dress!

great, but LOW CUT!
February 28, 2011

this is a lovely dress but the neckline is very low cut. i've worn it to work with a camisole and a scarf, but even outside of the workplace i think you'd need a cami, as it is very low cut. i am currently a rather busty nursing mama - maybe it'll fit a little better in the future. the print is great, the fabric is thick and hangs nicely.

the dress I wear most all year round
December 16, 2011

I love this dress (I have 4 of them) in the solid colors and understated prints. Simple, elegant, versatile and breathable, it offers just enough stretch and support in all the right places. I wear it to work as well as casual events in warmer weather (it's so comfy I find myself wearing it at home, too, without a bra) and just add tights and a jacket for winter months. The only caveat, for me, is that the v-neck is too deep for my professional persona (I'm a teacher), but that was easily solved by wearing a yoga bra-top rather than my usual bra underneath--it adds more cover, creates a nice line, and adds to the comfort.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, Great value

Well Worth the Price

The PERFECT dress!
February 10, 2011

When I say I have been searching for a dress like this for years, I really mean it! Here's my rigorous criteria: it had to be flattering, comfortable, cotton with a touch of stretch (nothing synthetic or slinky), machine washable, & travel-friendly. Well, this is it!! This dress looks like a dream on- the high fitted waist is very flattering and forgiving on the hips. It's comfy and casual but can easily be dressed up. The length hits a little about the knees which is just what I was looking for (I'm 5'9" / 135 / small bust). I usually take a small and found it to be true to size. I did try a medium too and it wasn't nearly as flattering as the more fitted small. (Some other reviews have stated the arms are slim and I'd say they indeed are. That worked for me since my arms are slim but I could see sizing up if you're lucky enough to have muscle-y arms). Oh and the best part: the price! Seriously, for the quality and fit it's a steal. I've looked at dresses over $100 that couldn't hold a candle to this one. Give it a shot- I hope you love it as much as I do!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Great value

Cute and comfortable
March 02, 2010

I loved this dress, kept the black, but had to return the gray. Band under bust was different color from any pattern on the dress. I wanted to keep it but couldn't get over the mis-match. The fabric is wonderful, and as others have noted, bodice is low.

Amazing dress!!
November 05, 2011

I purchased two of the Margot sleeveless dresses this summer and really loved the fit - very slimming and elegant. I wasn't sure whether the dress would be too revealing, but it wasn't at all. The material and stitching were of very high quality and actually really packable, too. So because of my great experience with the Margot sleeveless dress, I purchased the long sleeve version. I have worn it out three times now, and it's just as wonderful as the other dresses. In fact, my husband says I look stunning in it!

Review Update
March 22, 2010

I was previously undecided on whether or not to keep the black Margot. I kept it, and I'm so glad. Although it's shorter than the grey one, it's not too short. I washed it and hung it up to dry, and it still looks brand new. Buy this dress. You won't regret it.

Great dress
January 31, 2011

This is a great (and super cute) dress. Good for getting fancy as well as going outside! It was definitely designed for smaller chested women. My chest gets flattened a bit from the design. Other than that, the stretchy material of the dress is very comfortable!

my new favourite
July 01, 2009

i usually wear a medium in dresses but i followed the advice of other reviewers and ordered a large because i have thick arms, and am glad i did, the medium would have been too tight in the arms, but the large is perfect and is just the right length, just below the knee on me-i'm 5'6". so very comfy, washes, wears and packs well. i'll be getting the black one for sure and would love some other fun colors

Cute Dress
March 05, 2009

I liked the dress and thought it fit true to size. I am 5'4" and 115 lbs and it fit perfect. I am also small chested and it may not fit as well for someone with a large bust. I bought it to wear to a wedding and it was more informal and shorter than I wanted so I returned it.

Ideal for "A-shape" body types. Low-neckline for those "feeling sexy" days. LOVE the Bordeaux and Prussian Blue the best - next, will get the Heritage Green. Btw, runs somewhat small - it seems most Patagonia tops (including tops of dresses) run smaller than standard US sizes! For example, I wear medium Mountain Hardware and large Patagonia :-(

Pretty and practical
September 09, 2011

I love this dress and I now have three of them. They are professional enough to teach in and stylish enough to wear out on the town after accessorizing and maybe with cuter shoes. The material is very durable and washes well, with just a smidgeon of shrinkage, but nothing drastic. The 3/4 sleeves make the dress more weather versatile, and the fabric is just heavy enough that I can wear the dress with tights and the fabric doesn't stick to the tights (as my wimpier cotton dresses do). It also packs well. My only complaint is that I have a smaller bust, so I often wear a camisole under the top to keep the deep v-neck from revealing more than it should. I'm 5'5", 115ish lbs, and wear a medium. Small was pretty tight.

Pros: Great design, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

Seems like a great dress though I have not yet worn it.
May 06, 2010

I bought this dress in preparation for a trip to Italy in May. It looks like it will work well for multi-use - hiking and going out to dinner. It says it is slim fitting and I bought a small which seems to work well w/ length and such as I am 5'9, 125lbs. Others' comments on size really helped me choose which size would fit me best.

Cute.
March 17, 2010

This dress is pretty cute and pretty comfortable, although it seems to run a little small through the bust. I think the length is perfect (XS hits just a bit above my knee, I am 5'3"). The cross-over front detail makes it a bit more interesting than basic black.

Love this dress. The cut is very flattering. Can be dressed up or down, worn with leggings or heels. Fabric feels great and can be worn all year round, with the exception of hot summer days. cheap fabric and too short

I normally love everything Patagonia puts out, but this dress doesn't deserve the label. The fabric was scratchy and already looked faded and cheap. The cut is designed for a petite woman; it was very short.

Cons: Poor quality

This dress is flattering and will work with tights, leggings, or on it's own. You could even wear it as a tunic with pants. I had to order a medium--usually I can wear a small in Patagonia, but this dress was a medium for sure. I am 5'7 and 130 lbs.

November 10, 2010

Purchased this for my wife who absolutely loves it. She is able to wear it for a casual night out, to a company event, or even to the park with the kids. She particularly likes how comfortable it is. Travels very well with little need for ironing out of the suitcase. Overall, another great Patagonia product.

flattering and comfortable

It actually fits like it looks on the model. Arms are little tight and hits above the knee like it says but I do wish it was an inch or so longer. I got it in black and think I can wear it just about anywhere and any time of year.

November 02, 2012

Va-va-voom! I have 2 of these dresses and get compliments everytime I wear them. Looks great with a pair of boots or sandals. It is low cut so probably not appropriate for the office but looks sexy for a night out. As with all patagonia clothing I find the fit runs slightly small so size up if you are in between sizes. I'm typically a size Small in dresses but needed a size Medium in this this sytle.

Great Dress!
February 16, 2012

I love this dress and will wear it often. It's nice enough to be worn to my semi-casual workplace and cute enough that I can wear it out for a date. I was a little worried the neckline would be way too low, but other reviewers were right when they said a tank can easily be worn underneath it. I'm 5'2" and ~ 105 lbs, small busted and the small dress fits perfectly.

Pros: Build quality, Ease of use

Perfect for Pear Shapes
October 09, 2012

I own several Margot dresses (the strapless versions), but this is the first 3/4 length sleeve version that I've purchased. I prefer this to the sleeveless. The sleeveless shows off a lot of upper back, but this 3/4 covers more making it more appropriate for the office. I also feel the straps fall off my shoulder, but with this version it all stays in place. I find the design of the dress to be extremely flattering to my pear-shape figure. For reference, I am 5' 3", 32B, 126 lbs., and in this Margot dress I am a perfect size Small. It hits right above my knees which makes it a perfect length - not too short and not too long. This is cool, comfortable, and my go-to dress for when I want to feel pretty. Don't hesitate to buy this!

Fabulous Dress!
September 23, 2010

My new favorite fall dress. Can be worn with a cami, or without, it's not too low cut for me. Can be worn with leggings, tights, or even I think pants in winter as a tunic top. The pattern is very pretty, the cut is flattering, and the material is sumptuous organic cotton. What more could you want? I love Patagonia, they know how to make fashion meet function. I would buy this dress in every color--I'm thinking of ordering the French Roast, I have the Raven one. I am 5'7, 130 lbs, and bought a medium which fits perfectly. The small was definitely too tight, and the large was giant on me. Medium is just right. I would recommend this dress!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Ease of use

cute but a bit frumpy
January 14, 2010

Not really sure about keeping this dress, in fact, because it fits well and is sexy on top, as it shows mega cleavage, but the bottom flares out so much it is almost frumpy-looking. I wish it were slimmer cut throughout and a bit shorter. (In black it is 36.5 inches long). But it is a good go-to dress and I like the empire waist and, as with all Patagonia, it is well made and comfortable. But you should probably size up if between sizes as it is slim cut in the shoulder, bust and arms.

As other reviewers have stated, this dress runs small. I usually wear a size 4, but I ordered a size Medium based on the other reviews. And I'm glad I did. It is snug, but it still flows nicely from the empire waist. It looks great with my UGGs and I'm betting it will look good with my flip flops in the spring too. I think I might order this dress in another color - and I might try it in a size large.

great dress, great value
October 07, 2010

I followed the recommendations of other reviewers and ordered a size up (I generally wear a medium, but ordered a large) the fit is perfect, it's incredibly comfortable and perfect for work or a trip to the farmer's market and shopping in town. It's a tiny bit low-cut for me, so I end up wearing a tank top underneath. I loved my first one (the green print) that I just bought another in the goji berry (red)! I'm excited to wear these dresses all season!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

Runs small
April 02, 2012

I usually wear a small or extra small in a knit dress like this. The small was very tight across the back. I definitely wear a medium in this dress. Very flattering fit and quality fabric and construction.

Love this dress!
December 05, 2011

This is my "go to" dress! I originally received this dress as a present last year in a medium, but I lost it in a move. I had to have this dress again but decided to go with a small. Both sizes fit me well. The Margot dress is a dress you can wear day or night. And, no matter how you are feeling that day, this dress ALWAYS flatters your figure!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Ease of use, flattering

What a perfect dress! You could wear it out for a day of hiking and go out to dinner the same night without ever changing! This dress is comfortable and it travels well. I will be getting another one!

Glad I ordered as spring has arrived!!!

Really liked this nicely made and simple black dress. Can dress it up or dress it down. Great for travel. Very comfortable! Size was true.

This dress is perfect for most occasions. Wear it with a camisole to work, without one for out on the town.

Flattering Little Frock
September 10, 2010

Many compliments, but listen to the reviews when they say that it runs small. I'm an 8 and needed a L vs. a M. Love the look. Love the feel. Slimming! It was my "back to school" dress. I'd buy it again. :)

could be a morning glory for fall
September 09, 2010

So far I really love this...fit and feel. I live in my morning glory dress in the summer and believe this could have the same potential. Very flattering and classy too. I am looking for the right color cami to wear underneath. I am 5'5" or so, 122 or so, small chested, and the medium fits well.

Classy yet comfortable
June 27, 2011

This dress is incredibly comfortable. It's perfect for hikes in autumnal weather or just running errands around town. I love the three-quarter sleeves. The neckline is a bit low, but nothing that a safety pin (or a camisole) cannot fix. The purple color that I ordered is a rich jewel-tone that will be lovely in the cooler months of the year. I love that the dress grazes my knees, making it ideal for traveling to more conservative parts of the globe. It packs well, it's lightweight, and it dries quickly, all of which make it the ultimate travel dress. The sizing is spot-on: I bought a small and it fits my 5'8", 130-lb frame perfectly. I would definitely recommend this dress!

Small bust
February 07, 2013

I am 5'2" tall, tiny rib cage, 110-112 pounds, 34C biggish bottom This dress looks great but I am worried the bust may be a bit too small. I have ordered a small to compare. It hits right above my knee cap - usually I like shorter but with the line of this dress, it looks fine. It hugs my ribcage and flares out on my bottom in a flattering way. Sleeves are "form fitting". Very comfortable fabric though I think it may be prone to fading - it has a lot of cotton in it. I ordered the Maharaja Ruby and the pattern and color look beautiful . Great Valentine's date dress.

one word-easy!

This dress is easy to wear. For me it's true to size;a perfect fit, and comfortable. It travels well with easy care. What more do you want? An environmentally responsible manufacturer? It's Patagonia!- so you do worse.

Would work well for SM CHEST/LG HIPS
May 05, 2011

I was very disappointed in the fit of this. It is labeled "slim fit" and it is, but only in the chest. I am usually a size small (35-30-35) and I ordered a medium due to reviews saying it runs small. The chest was barely big enough. The waist was loose and the hips were HUGE. So if you have a pear shape this would be the perfect dress for you- don't be put off by the "slim fit" label.

CUTE AND COMFORTABLE
December 18, 2011

This dress is made well and comfortable. I bought two colors and get many compliments. The neckline is low, but wearing a cami under takes care of that. I would recommend this dress.

Tinsy bit too small
February 02, 2012

Love the colors, love Patagonia Margot dresses, but this one was too small and way too tight for me; clinging like saran wrap. Generally wear a 4 or 6, always a small in Patagonia, but not in this case. Returned it for a medium in the same wonderful blue. These dresses travel well, can be dressed up or down, here or there, works everywhere--in a medium for this gal.

Pros: Great design, Ease of use, Great value

A Great Buy

The dress is darling and can be worn for casual or more dressy occasions. The length is perfect--not too short or too long. Very well-made.

Great dress! (But black is a little short.)
March 11, 2010

I ordered this dress in both black and gray. It is adorable and flattering--not as revealing on top as I thought it would be from reading the other reviews. Unfortunately, the black dress is almost 2 inches shorter than the gray. I haven't decided whether to keep the black one yet or not.

Love it!
