Description

The cool thing about the Patagonia Women's Nano Puff Hoody is that it is toasty warm as a lightweight outer shell, and even cozier when layered under a storm shell. Whether topping out by headlamp on a first ascent of Nadal's N. Ridge, battling the weather on a long backcountry ski approach into the Stanley Mitchell Hut, or everyday traversing of a challenging urban jungle, this comfy hoodie keeps your core fires burning. Weather-resistant enough with its Deluge DWR (Durable Water Repellent) finish to wear as an insulated jacket in a wet snowstorm, this trim and athletic driven jacket warms chilly rock pitches and powers quick alpine dashes that sometimes carry-on through the night. Its wind-blocking, moisture-shedding 100% recycled ripstop shell moves effortlessly when layering against the elements, while its low-bulk, hydrophobic, highly compressible PrimaLoft® One (60-g) insulation traps heat with remarkable weight-to-warmth efficiency. Packing down to practically nothing when stuffed into its internal zippered chest pocket, the jacket features two zippered handwarmer pockets for storage and quick digit warming, and elasticized cuffs along with a dual-adjust drawcord hem to seal out wind and swirling moisture. Recyclable through the Common Threads Recycling Program, the Patagonia Women's Nano Puff Hoody's elasticized hood even snugs over a low-volume helmet when an adventure occation requires one.

Better than a sweater, travels well
April 24, 2012

Wore this all winter, indoors and out, as an added layer for warmth and as outerwear for travel. Hood is nice to have if one gets caught in weather. Otherwise you don't know you have it and it makes the collar lie nicely around one's neck. Like the fact that the jacket isn't down as I often travel to wet places and it is the perfect layer under a rain shell. Great for travel as it is light and packs small. Only negative is that the outer fabric will snag--a tradeoff for the light weight. This generally isn't a problem in normal street wear, but if one wears it as much as I do they build up. Good value for the price despite the snags. Will buy another when this wears out as long as Patagonia keeps producing it in one or two neutral colors.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
Cons: tends to snag

my favorite jacket
February 27, 2012

I love this jacket! The fabric is silky-soft and it keeps me as warm as a big bulky jacket, yet it is extremely light and compact. It packs into its own pocket, so it's easy to take on an ultra-light backpacking trip, anywhere in a daypack, or stuffed into the corner of a suitcase to a destination where one might need an extra, warm layer when least expected. It fits true to size, and is fitted through the torso. I just bought my third one so I've got a choice of colors to wear!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use

Not the best
January 28, 2012

I was looking for a lightweight, somewhat warm jacket to add to my layering system and hoped that this jacket would fit the bill. However I was disappointed to find that although the jacket looks nice, the fit was not great...It was quite short and boxy. I got the Arcteryx Atom LT instead and am 100% satisfied with my choice. It is warmer, fits longer and is the most comfortable jacket ever!

Nice looking but not warm
January 17, 2012

I loved the look and fit of this jacket. However, I found that it was not warm enough for a Vermont winter. Even with warmer layers underneath I felt chilled in this jacket. It might be a great jacket to wear around town but not really practical for on the slopes (unless the temps are somewhat mild). Perhaps it would be practical for very early winter or even early spring in the Northeast.

Pros: nice styling
Cons: Low performance

overrated
December 19, 2011

The jacket looked wonderful in the pictures and seemed to be perfect for traveling. But it did not fit well. Sleeves were too long, it's too fitted in the waist for me, and it didn't hold up well. The filling started coming out at the stitching. I ordered two of them and will return them both.

Warm but delicate
November 16, 2011

I've been ogling Patagonia down jackets for some time now, and finally was able to buy one on sale. Mine is super warm and toasty in a pretty wide temperature range. I wear it inside at 60 degrees and outside at 20-20 degrees (F) with a tee or long sleeve quite comfortably. They do seem to run a little large (I tried on a few in a Patagonia store after purchasing, out of curiousity), but it's not too bad. I would say that this jacket is definitely cut for a woman who's smaller up top--I went up a size, which means that the jacket fits around my shoulder and chest, but the sleeves are too long. To be honest, I think Patagonia stuff is generally not flattering to people who are larger up top, but it is well-made and warm, which is what I care about when I'm outside. The fabric does seem quite thin and the stitching seems rather delicate--it will be interesting to see how it holds up over time...

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, Great value
Cons: not cut for larger-size chests

Nice jacket, drab color
October 25, 2011

The jacket itself is nice - comfortable, fits true to size, and seems very toasty (I only tried it on inside). However, I am returning it because I found the color (platinum) to be incredibly boring and did not flatter my coloring (light hair, skin and eyes).

Lightweight and Extremely Warm Jacket
October 16, 2011

This is an extremely versatile jacket that I wear alone as a shell or layered with a fleece. It is extremely lightweight and packable and can fit easily in my daybag as the day warms up. I am usually a small in Patagonia and the small fit me perfectly with a little room for layering on a really cold day! I bought it in platinum and I am looking forward to using it this winter!

Fantastic Jacket
September 23, 2011

Lightweight, warm and beautifully cut. The color (green) is brilliant yet not brash. I wear a size 12 and purchased a large which is just right for those layers I'll need in colder Montana weather. This jacket is perfect for walking and hiking. I plan to use this camping and for winter activities such as cross country skiing. The hood will provide that extra insulation in windy conditions. This is my second nano puff jacket. I swear by them!

Awesome, warm, packable jacket
September 21, 2011

This jacket is extremely warm yet it is very thin and packs up into a very small side pouch easily. I absolutely love this jacket, although I do feel that it runs slightly smaller than my Patagonia fleece jacket that I have in the same size. Other than that, it's a great item to have and I highly recommend it.

July 29, 2011

Lately I have made a few Patagonia purchases and have not been disappointed. I decided to get the Nano Hoody because of it's portability and warmth rating. I am looking forward to wearing it this winter when I travel. I can only base durability and quality on other Patagonia pieces I own and trusting this will not disappoint either.

My Favorite Jacket By Far!
July 22, 2011

This really is the perfect all-around jacket! It's extremely lightweight, durable, and packable. I love the way the hood fits snug, but not to snug around my head. This is perfect to throw in my pack on either a quick day hike or on overnight backpacking trips. So easy to layer inside and out. I've worn it under my ski shell, and as a shell over my Patagonia re-tool fleece for extra warmth. Perfect for Utah fall/winter weather!

Lightweight warm jacket
July 08, 2011

Lightweight warm jacket. Perfect for cool spring and fall days and nights. Great to layer under waterproof jacket on rainy days. Patagonia sizing can be all over the place. I usually wear a small in most shirts and jackets. For this style, I wore a small. I own this in black. Like the new mango color. Would love to see this in a bright pink.

Coolest purchase
May 12, 2011

Okay, so this is the coolest Patagonia jacket purchase I've done. I think the price was right on for what you get. I love this puff and it will be my new favorite jacket! I may should have gotten an x-small, but the small still fits good, and in the winter for camping or just out and about, there is room enough for other layers, so that is good.

Cute Climbing Midlayer
May 06, 2011

Bought this as an ultra-warm midlayer for mountaineering and ice climbing. Works well as a warm midlayer, and a lighter outer layer (climbed in it as an outer layer in 35 deg). I usually always pick down over synthetics, but in this case synthetic was the obvious choice - it's thinner and easier to layer under an alpine softshell without worrying about crushing the insulation and losing warmth, it's not TOO warm - down is usually way too warm as a midlayer when climbing, and since it's synthetic I don't have to worry about it getting wet when ice climbing in drippy conditions. I love that it has a hood - fits easily under my climbing helmet which helps traps heat and ensures a warm neck. Full zipper is great for easy on/off. Plus, the color (acai) is WAY cute! What I don't love about the jacket (what makes it 4 stars instead of 5) - the fit is a bit boxier than I'd like. This garment has a Regular Fit and I would like it better if it were the Slim Fit - it would make layering under shells and harnesses a bit nicer and be a little more thermally efficient. I can still layer it under my slim cut shell, but it could be better. Also, the stitching on the quilting snags easily and then pulls loose - this has been a particular issue on the sleeves. It seems that the stitching needs to be tighter so it doesn't get pulled as easily (this same thing also happens on a Patagonia Micro Puff Jacket that I have). For this reason, I "save" this jacket just for ice/mountain climbing - it hasn't become my go-to jacket for everything because I'm worried about destroying it - and it would have been nice for it to be a really all-around go-to piece that I can abuse without worrying. Lastly, the hem is a drawcord, which is fine, but I would have liked it better if it were the elastic hem that's on the Nano Puff Pullover. Overall, a great (though not quite perfect) jacket. Definitely the best insulation piece out there for climbing. I might get a Nano Puff Pullover (the unhooded half-zip version) for a spring/summer/fall rock climbing jacket - something I can throw around.

Great jacket... Very light yet warm and it packs down incredibly small. It rains a lot here but the rain just runs off the outer layer of material. When I know I will be in the rain for a long time I wear a shell. I like the zippers on the pockets and the elastic on the sleeves is nice for trapping in heat. I get a lot of compliments on this jacket. I'm very glad I spent the money!

Perfect for Wet Weather Backpacking
January 05, 2011

This is an excellent synthetic insulated jacket. It is a good choice if conditions are possibly wet, as it doesn't lose all its insulating properties when wet like down. I love it for snowshoeing or carrying a heavy backpack in frigid winter conditions. The warmth level is way warmer than fleece or merino, but not as warm as down. It is fairly thin and has a fit that is conducive to moving around and being active in. It is great to bring in your pack all seasons to pull out on top of a mountain or when you stop to eat. It folds up relatively small into the chest pocket. Overall a fantastic, multi-purpose jacket that most hikers and backpackers should be able to get some use out of.

Lightweight but WARM!!
December 31, 2010

I love this jacket. It is lightweight but warm and can't believe I can just stuff it into the pocket of the jacket. Great for traveling!! I am 5'1 and 110 lbs and the small fit just right. The only thing I don't like is the hood it kind of puffs out but I need that hood up here in Alaska. So now I am looking at the Nano Puff without the hood. You won't be disappointed with this one

Excellent cool weather coat
October 13, 2010

I love this coat for summer & fall in Montana. This front zip coat is easy to take on and off and there are nice handwarmer pockets. The length is good, I'm 5'7" 135 lbs and the medium hits me at the hips, the sleeves are plenty long as well. The hood fits well over a helmet and I got the Volcanic Blue which is really cute and bright. This coat is a little bit wide at the bottom, but cinching down the drawstring at the bottom helps with that problem. This coat packs into its own pocket and easily stuffs into a pack. This is my go-to coat for multi-pitch climbing routes and cool weather camping. Overall, a great lightweight layer for spring/summer/fall!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, stylish & warm!

Very cute, versitle, sad it didn't fit me
July 25, 2010

I have always stolen my boyfriend's nano puff so I was super excited to see the hooded version come out! Unfortunately, the torso is a bit short for me (I am 5'6" and bought a medium)and the upper back is a bit too tight when I reach forward. It may be smart to size up if you are looking to put layers underneath it. In addition, the volcanic blue color is a bit too bright for me. Sad, sad, sad. I had to return it, but I will try on a large sometime soon to see if it fits better.

I'm in love!
July 20, 2010

I tried this on, in early spring, when winter 10/11 samples arived, and has been waiting ever since to purchase this!!! slimfit - so I will use it just as much for everyday use as for skiing, climbing and so on...
