Awesome Pullover
October 15, 2011
This is a great pullover with just the right amount of warmth. We live in a climate that can go from hot to cold within an hour and so this pullover will work all year long. The color is bold and beautiful. Awesome Top!!
Pros: Great design, Build quality, PerformanceGreat outdoor layer

This pullover will work for outdoor workouts as well as a nice layer for just shopping or walking the dog. I use it for a cold layer for running and just put a tank singlet under it. But it would work equally well as a fleece for just around the house. It is light weight yet breathable on a run and features a half-zip that you can wear all the way up for cold mornings and adjust as needed. The material is a grid fleece that feels lightweight yet warm. I love it!!!
Why did it change?
December 13, 2011
I have an older one of these (6 years old), and I love it. So I decided to order a new one in a bright, fun color. The material feels good, and I can tell that it would keep me just as warm as my old one. But, as others have posted, the seams on the shoulders where the racer back comes to, they don't lay flat, which is why it gets 3 stars. I was hoping maybe others just got a funky fleece and that mine wouldn't have this, but that wasn't the case. It looks like I'm trying to sprout wings. So, disappointed, I'm returning it. I would've kept it for layering, but I want to be able to wear it by itself as well, and I just can't get past the pointy shoulders. I would only recommend this to someone if they were planning to wear it only as a base layer and not by itself. I really wish Patagonia didn't change the style of this pull over, as it was just fine before.

I am 5'3" 120#. I bought a Med it gives me plenty of room to layer under it. A small would be perfect without layers. I am short so it runs quite long for me. It runs true to size. Good wind resistance. Provides good warmth. Washes well, I air dry it.

Well worth the money

High quality fleece. Very comfortable and looks great. This fleece looks like an athletic fleece rather than a sweater fleece so keep this in mind if you are looking for a fleece to wear to work. Well worth the money for me as it is versatile - I wear it on long hikes and around town with jeans and a t-shirt.
Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, PerformanceFebruary 01, 2013
I bought this R1 pullover for my trek up to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro and I couldn't have picked a better layer item for the climb. I had with me two other much bulkier fleeces to use, but this kept me so warm that I didn't need the other fleeces until the final hours of summit day. It was so comfortable that I barely took it off during the 8 days on the mountain. I highly recommend for anyone looking for a great layer piece for colder weather hikes or climbs!
Pros: Great design, Performance, Cons: CostHigh Performance meets High Comfort

After being jealous of my husband's R1 pullover for a couple of years, I finally did something about it and got my own--I couldn't resist the Bougainvillea deep pink color. This piece really does live up to the hype I heard from my mountain guides and husband. It is now a staple in my hiking and climbing kit. It is lightweight, very comfortable, and does a great job of keeping you warm -- from cold temps or wind -- and dry -- from activity-generated body heat or sweat. The fabric is highly breathable -- no clammy feeling-- with great ventilation at the neck zipper if you need it while moving. The trim around the neck is very comfy against the chin and neck with no issues feeling the zipper-top, due to excellent design. It is a great layering piece. I bring it along to put over a sleeveless Mountain Hardwear Wicked Tee shirt if the wind picks up or the sun goes behind clouds--very comfy against bare skin. I wear it as my second layer over a longsleeve Patagonia Capilene 1, 2 or 3 when climbing or hiking, and remain very comfortable putting multiple layers on top of it as conditions warrant, including a Micro Puff jacket and softshell or hardshell jacket. It dries very fast. I hand washed it before bedtime during a recent climbing trip in Ecuador, and despite the damp rainy weather, it was dry by morning. I am 5'1"/115 pounds and always wear XS in Patagonia. It gives me a trim/athletic fit but still just enough room to put a layer underneath and yet give me freedom of movement and comfort. The sleeves are a little long on me, as expected, but not bad compared to other brands' long arms. My only negative is after 4 months of wear, the fabric is slightly nicked/snagged in a couple places below the waist, probably due to my harness and gear. Also, the triple-row of thread seams at the sleeve hems are a bit frayed on the exterior, probably from rubbing on rocks. It is hardly noticeable though and likely due to my climbing harness and gear etc. Now if only Patagonia would come out with a Women's version of the R1 Hoody pullover...I'd buy that too!

A+ quality

great top for in between temps. i did return however because I didn't care for the seaming style in the back of the sweater: the seams design came inward like a racer top. why? I don't know the rationale. Maybe it allows more freedom of movement? I have moderate scoliosis (a curve in my spine) that was accentuated by this seaming- that is the reason for the return. Otherwise, a very nice item. I bought the Acai color (purple-y) - - very pretty
Pros: colors, quality, Cons: seam design in backlove this layer!

I hike ALOT and especially love the winter since the only other people out there are kindred spirits. Good equipment is a must and this layer is one of the best! I put this over a patagonia capilene 2 or 3 depending on the temperature, layered under a light weight down and I'm good on the AT in 20 degrees with a wind chill factor of minus something, who knows! I love the quality, the utility, and the look. The colors are gorgeous. This is money well spent. I highly recommend!
Pros: great quality, great performance, great looking!Absolute favorite

I love this fleece so much. It fits well, isn't too tight so it is easy to layer under, and over. Love it for climbing in colder weather. I bought the black and have received a lot of compliments on the fit and style of it. I love the material, perfect thickness.
