Though each Patagonia® product is designed and shaped specifically for its intended use, we can generalize our fit descriptions in four ways:
Formfitting: Conforms to the body's contours.
Slim Fit: Closer-fitting. Slim-fitting technical garments may be worn over baselayers and light midlayers.
Regular Fit: Neither slim nor oversized. Regular-fitting technical garments may be worn over heavier midlayers.
Relaxed Fit: Drapes loosely on the body.
Classic Boy Fit: Boxy, athletic, with a traditional crew neck.
Anika Fit: Formfitting and longer in the torso, with a wider, deeper neck (not quite scoop).close

fitted and functional
May 18, 2009
I LOVE this jacket so much! It's super comfortable and easy to move around in. The sleeves are the perfect length. The fit is very flattering and definitely the most flattering fleece I have worn (I think it looks a little boxy in the picture but it looks really great on. I would say that it runs true to size. It's very soft and keeps me warm on chilly spring mornings. I never want to take it off!
The best fleece ever!
January 02, 2005
We purchased this jacket for our daughter for Christmas - it has hardly been off her back since - the fit and feel of the jacket are exceptionally comfortable.
Warm and Soft
October 07, 2009
Find myself wearing this jacket often. It is warm, fuzzy and soft. More fitted than other Patagonia jackets. Went up one size to fit other layers underneath.
Great Light Weight Jacket
November 21, 2012
This jacket really surprised me. It was very warm when I first wore it at 40F and about a 10 mph wind. It cut the wind and even kept me warm. I have worn it as a layer under a jacket with great results in temps down to 0F and it out performs fleece jackets even as it is half the thickness. It is not bulky and still has the warmth.Pros: Performance, Ease of use
Good insulation piece
March 10, 2013
This works great as an insulation piece. I prefer not to wear it as my only jacket though, since there is no wind protection. The bottom hem doesn't want to lay very flat, but since I'm using it as a mid-layer, it's a non-issue. It is very functional. If you need windproof, check out the R4. It's a heavier weight jacket, windproof, and is overall better looking as a standalone jacket.Pros: Great design, Performance
December 10, 2004
Never have I been so elated with a purchase as with this jacket. Patagonia's R2 is a wonderful insulator without sacrificing style. The cut is extremely flattering, and the texture of the fabric is lovely. I highly recommend this jacket above all the Patagonia regulator jackets.
perfect for ultralight backpacking!
March 29, 2012
When I received this item; I was a little shocked at how thin the fabric was---I can't imagine what the R1 looks like! Nonetheless, it is super packable and great to layer while backpacking---which is exactly why I bought it. I'm glad I didn't pay full price--as much as I love Patagonia products and am generally willing to pay for their them, I would've been upset to pay full price on this one as the fabric durability may be a little questionable. It runs a little short, but everything else is true to size. I'm always a S in Patagonia, and this fits good. I'm 5'5, 34D, 27in waist. Plum color is really pretty!Pros: ultralight, Cons: Cost
thin but warm
April 24, 2010
i can wear under coat of soft shell jacket. material is very soft. its thin but very warm!
Comfort and Function Make the R2 a Buy
May 17, 2009
The R2 is a nice light weight compressible fleece that serves well for early Spring and Fall when worn over a t-shirt or thin base layer. I consider this to be a light-weight fleece that would be too thin to serve as a mid-layer for me if I were outdoors below 45-50 degrees. The fit is rather trim. I normally wear an XS in Patagonia jackets, and the XS in this fit well for me over a light layer, although, it is a little more snug in the chest than other XS Patagonia fleece tops I have tried. At 5'5', this jacket hits me right at hip level, and the sleeves are perfect in length. The sleeves are not restrictive as I can freely move my arms about. Initially, the fit felt a little weirdly stiff as it tapers down the torso and flairs slightly at the hips, but after one washing, it seemed to loosen up. Overall, the comfort, style, and function make the R2 a buy.
quality but only for warm spring or fall
July 29, 2005
This is pretty thin and light pokes through when held up. It is a quality tailored fit but not too warm.
Patagonia quality has suffered over time.
March 13, 2012
I just updated my look with the Patagoinia R2 jacket and sent a 21 year old Patatgonia fleece jacket (still in great condition) to a charity. I like the hipper women's fit (the sleeves run a bit short for my taste) , softness and great color. But..after one week (I don't know how it happened) my R2 jacket has a large snag in the back. My fleece of 21 years had been with me backcountry skiing, backpacking, even to the summit of Mt. Rainier without any damage. I am wondering how this R2 jacket is going to perform out on the trail when it hasn't made it two weeks of daily wear without developing a snag. It's ugly. If you want something that lasts awhile (for that Patagucci price) consider something with a tighter woven fabric.Pros: Great design, Cons: Wears quickly, Cost, Poor quality
Simply the best
September 17, 2010
Patagonia products are in a class of their own and this fleece is no exception. It feels terrific to wear, has a clean and smart fit, and the hand warming pockets are quite fantastic. I don't think there is a better mid-weight fleece out there.Pros: Great design, Build quality
Altrec Staff Pick

When I first saw the prototypes for this jacket, I was skeptical - it looked heavy and sort of funny with those bendable areas at the inside elbow and wrist. Boy, was I wrong! This is now my favorite fleece piece, almost inseparable R We! Among all of the fleece jackets I own (and believe me my closet is FULL of them), this is the one I inevitably leave the house with. I've found it lives up to it's claim of being light for the warmth it provides, and it truly is more compressible than any other fleece I own. The flexible areas built in around the inside elbow and wrist are very comfortable and add to the trim fit and low bulk of the piece. I also like the way the hem finishes - no drawcord, just an awesome fit over the hips. It is also very breatheable and I find that I am rarely overheated in the piece, even though it is warm and fuzzy. I highly recommend this piece and would recommend adding it to your collection of fleece pieces - it won't take up much room in your bulging closet and will earn it's keep on your next adventure!
too lite weight
September 13, 2013
Jacket is soft and comfortable. Would be good for layering or cool weather. Unfortunately I was looking for something to wear alone..so needed it to be heavier for cold NH days. Love Patagonia products. Would recommend for layering.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use
Love this jacket
September 22, 2011
It is so comfortable and cozy. My husband had the male version and I always one for me, so I am glad I got one that fits me just right! I normally wear smalls in jackets, but got it in a medium to allow room for layers underneath. I did not get it to be a warm jacket, but I can tell that it will definitely keep me warm.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
March 08, 2005
patagonia proves itself once again. this fleece is the perfect mix for cold layering under a goretex shell or a simple fleece for a walk in warmer weather. very breathable and not bulky. makes a perfect layer for travel, wore on the plane and the ski hill. it did it all!!!
February 14, 2005
I find that I reach for this jacket all the time. Perfect for bay area winters. Comfortable as a layer under a shell in the mountains. Highly recommended.
Soft and flexible
December 22, 2012
I bought this for my wife and she loves it. It is soft and and side panels on the arms and side of the jacket, make it so flexible. She likes the fit and is not "boxy" like her last fleece jacket. This is a mid weight jacket, good for the fall/spring months here in the Bay Area, but not a winter night type coat.Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever
February 19, 2005
The jacket is great, it came on time with no damages or anything
Great light fleece
August 31, 2012
I ordered this fleece a few weeks ago, it is very soft and comfortable. It is not heavyweight, when I'm in the Jeep I can feel some wind through it. but it is a great light jacket option. I love the feel of it.Pros: Great design, Great value
SO SOFT AND COMFY!
June 01, 2009
Terrific mid-layering jacket. SUPER soft and very comfortable. Fits true to size, compressible (won't take up too much space in a pack), and easy to layer underneath a shell. A very flattering fit, although it may feel a bit short if you are tall or have a long torso. I am 5'7", but have a small torso, so the small fit perfectly. You will enjoy the comfort of this fleece!
Very happy with my Patagonia clothing
May 25, 2008
Great looking mid-layer jacket that fits nicely with my Rain Shadow shell.
September 28, 2005
I like the jacket alot but the fit is really long. It is warm though.
February 13, 2010
Jacket was greater than expected......excellent service
January 25, 2010
I bought this jacket in red. I fell in love with it instantly. It is so stylish, comfortable with Patagonia top quality. I've been getting tons of compliments on it and can hardly wait for the weather to warm up to wear it more.
June 03, 2009
Very cozy fitted style with functional constuction features such as extra fabric folds underarm area for full movement.Strange fit but I like it.
July 13, 2011
Love this jacket! The coloration is gorgeous and it is so cozy, I could wear it every day, layered or on it's own. Another fabulous jacket from Patagonia!Pros: Great design, Build quality
May 18, 2011
I love this jacket. Perfect for cool mountain mornings and evenings when you don't want your R4. The fit is a true medium. And best of all is the fabric--soft, light, makes you want to wear it.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use
best fleece ever
September 28, 2012
my patagonia r2 fleece is the best. so warm, and so light, i wear it all the time. mine is a small, and it fits just right, i do wish the sleeves were a tiny bit longer, or that it had those cool thumb holes for times when i'm still a little chilly. otherwise, i'm buying another one in another color. my husband has got to be sick of fushia by now!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Ease of use
Very warm and light
April 08, 2005
This jacket is warmer than my heavy fleece jacket yet very light. The cut is feminine and flattering enough to wear as casual wear with non-techy clothing yet performs in the outdoors for sports activities. I like the fact that the arms are plenty long and dont come riding over your wrists. It is very soft to the touch.
May 31, 2005
Great, comfortable jacket. However, lighter than I expected and not for very cold weather.
Very comfortable and warm.
December 21, 2009
Very comfortable. My college age daughters steal it from me all the time.
so light but so powerful
March 05, 2005
When I picked up the box containing this jacket, I was surprised by how light it was. But this jacket will keep you warm. And it's cute! It has a much sleeker line than fleeces I've had in the past. It's a great layering piece under a raincoat as well as good on its own.
October 15, 2005
Both lightweight & insulating at the same time. Perfect for the fall, and I suspect will layer niceyl in the winter when it's a bit colder & i want something more substantial. Fits true to size, and is less bulky & heavy than Patagonia's older R2 jacket.
November 11, 2012
I love this jacket...it's a good coat for inbetween seasons and very versatile! I'm 6'1'' and the large was long enough for my arm lenght, which is rare! Definitely recommend this brand and jacket!
A Jacket for ALL Occasions!
October 17, 2005
I absolutely love this Patagonia jacket. I wear it everywhere. It fits wonderfully... I can layer with it, or wear it over a tee shirt. It's just perfect and that's that. It works perfectly for around town or for rockclimbing, backpacking, you name it. If the price is discouraging you, it's worth every dollar!
great summer coat and winter layer
March 27, 2006
It's a great layer! Very breathable, not wind resistant by any means. Definetly worth the money though if you prefer a full-zip layer compared to a pull-over.
great fit, great fabric, great quality
November 01, 2004
I love the way this fits and the workmanship is excellent. I purchased the chili pepper and love the color!
January 06, 2005
I LOVE MY JACKET!!!!! Takes warmth to a new level. Great base layer.
March 16, 2005
I really like the jacket, it is very compactable and super warm. It also looks very nice, but is a little long.
Great addition to the active life
April 30, 2011
I had a Mountain Hardware Monkey Jacket, which was warm but a little full in the body. This jacket is a similar fabric, but cut closer to the body, light & wonderfully warm. I'll use it hiking, biking and skiing. It works beautifully with the H2No rain jacket, too.
A little thin
February 22, 2009
The R2 looks great, but it is a little thinner than I expected and it fits a little smaller than some other brands (including North Face). If you are between sizes, pick the larger size. I'm a size 0-2 in most clothing, but the x-small was a little too small.
