Description

Warmth can never be underdone in the winter and the Patagonia R4 Jacket for women has warmth to the brim. Made from the warmest thickest, softest fleece in their R lineup, this fleece jacket sandwiches a windproof laminate between an exterior of 13oz Polartec® Windbloc® fleece and an interior of R2® grid fleece. Full of stretch to keep you mobile and agile, this cozy winter jacket works well as an outer layer or as a mid layer for insulation under a ski shell. The R4 has a sleek and fitted silhouette and uses micro-stitch technology on the zipper seams to reduce bulk. Coziness is improved with microfleece-lined collar, hem and cuffs while the offset shoulder seams let you wear pack straps all day without any seam chafe. Able to help regulate moisture inside with performance oriented breathability, the Patagonia Women's R4 Jacket is a super cozy choice for any winter activity.

Just went back from MONT BLANC, R4 performed super well even with strong winds. Light and warm but it is a little bulky to pack. Another problem might be personal. I do not feel comfortable (just around neck area) with the jacket fully zipped. I feel a little bit tight but don't think I have sizing problems.

I love coats and jackets like other girls love bags and shoes. Been searching for a North Face fleece but just couldn't find one I thought I would be happy with. I've never bought Patagonia stuff before but had heard good stuff. I bought the blue one in a size medium. I'm 5'3" and 128 lbs. IT FITS PERFECT. Narrow in the sholders to make a girl feel like a girl. Sleeves reach mid-palm, making me feel all cozy. Jacket contours in to your waist to create a modern shape. Could wear a sweater underneath and not feel bulky. Very happy with my purchase. Thanks again Altrec!

Warmest Fleece Around!
March 29, 2012

I own over a dozen fleece jackets from various brands and this is without a doubt the warmest one I own. It is noticeably heavier and bulkier than a standard fleece - keep this in mind if using as a layering piece. The inside has a plush fleece similar to the outside - I can wear a t shirt under the jacket and still be very warm. The zipper pockets keep everything in when using for active pursuits and the zipper guard works great in colder weather. It is a great standalone jacket or would be a great layering piece in extremely cold conditions.

Pros: Performance, extreme warmth
Cons: boxy fit
Comfort: 4 / 5

Comfortable and warm
January 29, 2012

Comfort and warmth are the bottom line for this jacket. I absolutely love the flexibility of the fabric. It moves with me without binding or tugging anywhere. Most other windproof/wind resistant jackets are stiff but not the R4. The only criticism I have is that it doesn't have a waist cinch and I sometimes get a draft from the loose waist style. A Napolean pocket (chest zip pocket) would improve the jacket's function too. The hand pockets are mesh which can be a pro or con depending on how you look at it. For me it lets in a draft, but for others it offers a way to ventilate if needed. The sizing was true and the slimmer fit was not extreme (I'm 5'8' and thinnish) - I can still wear a sweater underneath without bunching. Overall I am very happy with the jacket. It's so comfortable that I want to leave it on all the time.

Pros: Performance, stretchy
Cons: no waist cinch

Amazing winter coat
December 29, 2011

I LOVE this coat. Totally worth the price. I think it's perfect for under 30 degree weather. I am usually cold if I'm outside for awhile, but not with this coat. Today I wore it for a medium snow storm in Michigan and it was great--it's very soft and warm. I'm not sure I would wear it skiing, but it's great for shopping, walking around or wearing for general cold weather. I generally buy Patagonia coats because of the quality and sustainability practices of this company and this coat is no exception!

Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, eco friendly

If you are looking for a fleece jacket, R4 is the choice. It is the warmest I have owned so far. It looks nice and feels comfortable. I bought the color deep plum, very beautiful. The fit at the shoulders is a little looser than other jackets of the same series.

Stellar All-Purpose Cold Weather Jacket
December 04, 2011

My wife and I love Patagonia's R4 Jacket. It's the first coat we usually grab when heading out the door when cold mountain weather arrives. The sizing, features and gender-specific fit of the Guide Jacket are superb. The jacket is very cozy and roomy enough to accommodate heavy layering. The material is nice and stretchy, durable, and has high resistance to wind and precip. We found the jacket to be comfortable on all but the coldest days when down insulation is more appropriate. The only criticism to be made for this jacket version is that there is no elastic or cinch closure for the sleeves and hem to prevent heat from escaping (form preceded function here). All is all, a great all purpose cold weather jacket. Definitely worth the $$$.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Great value
Cons: no sleeve hem tightening
Comfort: 5 / 5
Durability: 5 / 5

Warmth: 4 / 5

Pros: I loved the jacket because it was superwarm, soft, and double layer fleece (exterior fleece plus interior fleece). I'm in Chicago now and with a capilene and the R4, I was warm enough to go outside to do errands even in the teens. Cons: I am 5'-1' and 110lbs and I got the XS. The fit was great and not baggy. It looked slim and fitted, but the shoulders were too tight. I think it was the armpits that were too small, so when I sat down the shoulder area was too tight and I couldn't move comfortably.

Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
Cons: Bad design, armpits too tight

Soft, warm, wonderful jacket!
December 28, 2010

I got this jacket as a gift for Christmas. I was worried about it being too short because I like longer jackets, but it is a perfect length. Also, the sleeves are not too long. I ordered a large and it was true to size. The coat is very soft to touch...it is warm when you need it to be (outside with the wind) but yet I can keep it on all day in my office and not be too hot. Overall a great coat that I will keep for years.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use
Cons: Cost
