ideal for..3season jackets
September 16, 2011
i have some of jackets ..waterproof and breathable functions using such as gore-tex , epic , event , ... each has pros. and cons. the best is gore-tex i think. but it's bulky in wearing and packing ..except winters. patagonia's H2NO fabric is great in function and others. it's similar abilities in other fabircs. so its good in 3seasons except winter saeson. i strongly recommanded...Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use
love it, very comfortable

price is excellent
Was just what I was looking for.

I ordered a Large, but it seemed to be a little big. Probably OK if you are wearing heavier clothes underneath.

I bought this jacket because I was sick of getting drenching while wearing my old rain coat. I stood in the rain for over an hour once and stayed nice and dry. I'm 5'10'' and 145 pounds and wear a small. Normally I wear a medium so i'd say the sizing runs a bit small. I can wear a fairly heavy fleece with ease. The only thing to keep in mind is that this is only a rain shell and won't keep you warm is it's cold and windy, just dry, so make sure you have something to wear under it to keep you warm.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: Cost
Great rain jacket!!
March 22, 2013
Patagonia provided some great features like the rain hood, pit zips, and two pockets. Color is fabulous and replaces an old rain jacket that had lost it waterproofing. I was happy to be able to layer a dri fit shirt plus a fleece vest so I can use it in cooler spring and fall weather. The fit M was true or slightly toward the smaller side of medium as I wear a medium and usually have lots of room to spare. This jacket was OK in the sleeve length, even a bit longer, but the body was close but not tight fitting when I had the layers on. Without layers, it was more typical of a medium. Folds down flat for easy packing in a backpack or gear bag. Sheds water and dries quickly.Pros: Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: hood cinching ends too small
Great rain jacket
December 19, 2011
I walk my dog everyday for 2 hours, regardless of the weather. This rain jacket is fantastic, lightweight but very good at repelling rain (and wind). It has lots of zippered air vents to prevent overheating. The fit was perfect (medium for 5'7" 140 lbs). I liked it so well that I bought the mens version for my husband.Pros: Great design, Performance, Cons: zipper sticks a little
March 29, 2010
This jacket fit very nicely. It was great in wet weather, yet comfortable and fashionable. I would recommend this jacket very much.
February 04, 2013
This is by far the best rain jacket I have ever owned. From walking around campus in the heavy rain, to winter backpacking through the snow, this jacket is water proof. I would recommend this to absolutely anyone.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Great value
All-Around Great Shell
December 28, 2009
Stylish and Competent Water Proof Shell.
January 07, 2012
Impervious to all elements, this jacket is perfect for all outdoor wear. I often wear it just around the house, because with a Capilene layer, it is pretty insulating, and for being so water/wind proof, it is really soft. However, the fit is a little strange. Perhaps it is just me, (I am 5'4") but it is pretty long, and kind of boxy looking. Also the sleeves ARE huge around the armpit; I can fit both of my arms in one with plenty of room to spare. I guess this is for ease of movement, but for my purposes, it is just a bother. But it's performance is unbeatable, and it is everything that is gloated in the description. Plus gigantic arms.Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: Bad design
Great quality jacket
February 17, 2012
Bought the M size for my wife w/o reading other reviews. Glad I did and changed the size to S. It fits her well and she's pleased with the quality. The zipper is a bit rough and needs time to work itself into condition.Pros: Build quality, Performance, Great value
This jacket stinks, literally.
January 31, 2011
I have the torrentshell by patagonia and got the rain shadow as a more heavy duty shell. I love my torrentshell really really dislike the rain shadow. I am sure the jacket holds up to being water repellent or better, as my torrentshell does. This jacket however stinks, it literally has a smell that is foul. I don't know why, the torrent shell didn't. My other complaint about this jacket is the pit zips, they are really stiff, and there is an odd pocket of air that is made. The pit zips really make it uncomfortable. The color is nice, and I would have considered keeping it, if it just didn't have the smell.

As usual Patagonia doesn't disapoint! Very lightweight rain jacket with no annoying wind breaker noise. 100% water and wind proof and adjustable to fit your needs. Relax fit so it isn't very form fitting for the ladies, but that makes it a great layering peice.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Great value, Cons: zipper is a little tough

I purchased this to take on a trip which will include day hikes. I am pleased with how lightweight and packable it is. It will not take up too much room in my backpack. I am 5'7" and the M fits perfectly. The sleeves might be too long if my arms were shorter.Pros: Build quality, Performance, Ease of use

I bought this jacket a month ago for my trip to Italy and it was a great purchase! I ordered a small and medium and kept the small...the medium was big overall and the sleeves were really long. Fits great without looking bulky, but you could easily put a fleece or sweatshirt underneath for additional warmth. It's a great jacket for the cold and rainy NY fall we are having :)

fits very well, looks great, seems durable. everything I expect in Patagonia.
Great jacket except not smooth zipper
August 25, 2010
Everything is nice except zipper, which doesn't slide very smooth. I hope the more I use, the smoother it gets. It is very light which is very convenient to put into the small backpack for biking. It makes me more enjoyable to go out without any worry of the weather changing.
March 06, 2013
I purchased this jacket in March 2011 and the zipper was stiff and I could rarely get it to even zip up. I thought over time it would get better, but it really hasn't. I noticed in the current picture online it looks like they have changed the zipper. The one I have looks like it has 2 zippers to pull up, but one stays at the bottom of the jacket. It is made very well, and I love the way it fits, but I don't wear it very often because of the zipper issues. I thought I had gone past the return time but I called Altrec about the jacket 2 years later and they said since I purchased it before they changed the return policy (not sure when they did that) I could return it for the price I paid for it, minus the shipping charges. I was surprised and VERY pleased to hear this. Because of the customer service and the quality of products Altrec carries...I will definitely purchase from them again in the future!!
Great Rain Coat
January 04, 2013
This coat is great. It performs well in light to heavy rain and wind. It's durable but lightweight and therefore very packable. It's great to wear around the neighborhood or it makes the perfect travel companion.Pros: Build quality, Performance
So far so good
March 24, 2011
I have had the Rain Shadow for a few months and so far it is holding up pretty well. I got the extra small and it fits over my North Face down jacket. It was a great combination for dealing with the cold and wind chill here in the city. It definitely keeps me dry in a moderate rain storm; however, I haven't tested yet in a downpour. The overall fit is good but it fits a bit large. I guess it's so that you can have some stuff underneath. The only complaint I have is the zipper. It takes a little bit more effort to zip the jacket up. I do like the fact the jacket is lightweight. It helps to keep the pack weight down while traveling.Pros: Build quality, Performance, Great value
Can't go wrong with Patagonia
December 13, 2010
Bought this for my daughter and she loves it, very comfy and good looking on; haven't put it to the hurricane test yet fabric appears very durable.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance
Great All-Purpose Jacket for any element
March 04, 2010
Great All-Purpose Jacket for any element. 5'2", 115 lbs, the Small fits great. Not extremely warm but great protection from rain. Slender fit.
Great jacket - I ordered too small
May 03, 2010
I'm usually a size 12-14 and for some reason (denial), I thought the medium would work for me. It didn't, but it's a great jacket. Once I got the larger size I love - easy to pack and love the pit zips.
