I have not really worn this yet in warm weather, so I'm not sure how well this works in keeping the sun off. The material is different from anything I have worn in the past. I believe the weight will be an asset in the warmer weather, and I am looking forward to trying this out at that time. Size is good. I am 5'7" 125 lbs. the small fit fine, even with a tshirt under.Pros: lightweight, great color, good size

I bought the women's sunshade hoody after seeing how much my husband liked his. The women's is way too big. I mostly have mediums in Patagonia so I ordered a medium. I was swimming in it, it's huge. Besides the size, I just didn't really like the fit & look. If you want it strictly for functionality thought it will protect you form the sun & keep you cool.
Great water top
June 16, 2011
I was looking for a hoody to wear out on the water. Sure I'll get wet (it's not waterproof) but that's not a problem. I wanted some protection from the sun. Not as loose as some of the tops from Patagonia have been this year but does have room enough so I'm not sweating after paddling a long distance. The length is good. Stays down even when seated in the boat. The thumb opening is great. It's a pain to use other long sleeved tops without it. Medium worked. I'm 5'9" and 140.
Lightweight Sun Protection

I got this hoody to use while climbing as an alternative to sunscreen - I always find that sunscreen just makes me feel really hot and smothered, so I wanted to try out a UPF top to see if that was any cooler. Specfically, I was interested in this hoody for use on glaciers in warm weather while doing some mountaineering. The top is light and cool - not as cool as a tank top (duh), but I would say that I'd prefer this to wearing sunscreen. I sweat so much in sunscreen, that I think this top actually keeps me cooler, since it wicks the sweat and it's breathable (so my skin doesn't get as hot to begin with). Plus, I got the white, so it tends to stay cool. Love the big roomy hood - give good neck protection without over heating. Style is cute too. HOWEVER, this isn't my favorite sun top for glacier travel...it's just a tad too short in the torso (which makes it perfect length to wear with bikini bottoms, as it was intended) - it doesn't stay well under a harness, and definitely lifts up when I raise my arms. But I have used it for whitewater rafting and kayaking, and anytime that I don't wear a harness or reach a lot. And even when I am in my harness, I've brought it along with me rock climbing, to throw on during a belay so I don't get scorched. Would LOVE if patagonia turned the kangaroo pocket into a turn-me-inside-out pocket that the whole shirt stuffs into with a tiny carabiner clip in loop...... I'm 5'5" 140 lbs, usually wear a small in tops and a small or medium 6/8 in bottoms. Got the size small, fits fine.
good travel companion

I purchased this for my best friend who is heading out on a 4 week excursion honeymoon in New Zealand. She's just realized now important size and weight are when it comes to backpacking, and I think this was a helpful purchase for her. It's a lightweight, extremely packable layer that provides coverage and a little warmth, yet completely breathable for when things heat up. I'm happy with the quality of the sewing and the cut of the fit, even though it is a bit roomier than I personally would like. She's tall and thicker up top, so it works perfectly for her.Pros: lightweight, packable, good construction

I bought this hoping to be able to wear it as a cover up from the sun in the summer but I'm afraid it will be a bit hot. However, the color is lovely. The fit is a bit loose, but the fabric drapes well so does not look too baggy (I'm 5-5" 120lbs and bought a small, xs would work too).
Love the shirt
September 04, 2011
Tried my new shirt out yesterday Sept. 3rd and loved it! Fishing here in Tampa bay in September is hot! Both in temperature and catching. I am always looking for high sun protection and love the hoody. I wear my buff and visor and pull the hoody on and am pretty much covered up from the fierce rays here. I am 5'7" and 160 lbs. The large womens size fit well with a little breathing room. I hate too tight shirts. The weave allows the seabreeze to flow thru! I espcially like the thumb holes that allow some proection for the upper part of your hand. I did get the cuffs a little slimy with the redfish I was catching......I figure with the sky blue color I blended in with the sky from the fishes point of view, HA!
