Too tight for comfort
December 29, 2010

When my package arrived I couldn't wait. The stormy weather was blowing through me. I usually can't buy Patagonia because it runs large. That is why I was so happy they had an extra small option. An extra small is usually ample for me in other brands, so I felt confident ordering this. Alas, with a sweater on, it is skin tight. I wish now I had gone for the small and I would have the coat to wear out in the storm on New Years Eve.

Great Jacket
January 27, 2012

This jacket is great. I purchased it to use for Alpine Touring and it is perfect. I can move in it freely and it is just the perfect weight. I do not get too cold or hot. Also, you can add a thin vest underneath if it is a little too cold. Great purchase

Great Coat
January 27, 2012

Exactly what I was looking for! Definitely slimmer fit but works. Very warm but not bulky...can still tell I have a figure. I'm a standard medium, & the fit is just right. If I gained 10lbs, might start to be snug, particularly in the waist. A little worried about the durability of the zipper, but I'm sure Patagonia will stand by their product if it fails.

Stylish and Versatile
November 28, 2011

This coat is both stylish and versatile! Most coats look bulky in order to give you warmth, but this coat gives you a great lean look and provides incredible warmth whether you are wearing the under coat, the over coat OR both. In addition, you will notice it is not heavy to wear either, so you are not carrying an extra 10 lbs. on you. Another plus of its lightness, is packing it in suitcases where you have minimum weight requirements. You will find that you can pack it tightly and will not be over your suitcase weight limit which is another savings and super versatile! Definitely two great coats that can be worn individually OR together, get two different looks, or the extra warmth and weather protection that you need, so whether it's winter, spring or fall, it's the three season coat for me in the Chicago area.

LOVE THIS COAT!
January 29, 2012

I searched both the web and the brick and mortar stores for the perfect winter coat. I was looking for something with a removable liner that was very warm and would protect me from the wind and the wet; that fell between my hips and my knees (covering my backside); and that would allow me to hike and to ride horseback without restricting movement. I looked and looked until I finally found this. I read all of the reviews and ordered large, although I am normally a size medium (8). The full price put me off a bit, and it was only after I found it at Altrec at a nice reduction, that I took the plunge. And boy am I glad I did! I opened the package, pulled it out, and could have cried it was so perfect! The large is perfect for me -- I can wear a sweater and layers underneath without it getting too tight, but without the sweaters, it feels fine too. And it nicely covers my backside without being too long. I have ridden horseback three times, with and without the liner, and had no problems with the length. Thank you Patagonia, for the perfect coat.

Warm AND Stylish
January 23, 2011

I was looking for a coat that would stand up to Boston winters, and yet still be slim and stylish enough to wear to work. This totally fits the bill. I've been toasty warm in temperatures in the low teens, and not out of place walking into a nice restaurant for dinner. It's substantial without being bulky, and overall a great product. I'm 5'5", 118 lbs and a S fits well, with enough room for a sweater underneath but not too loose. My only "complaints" are that the pockets are a bit small to get your hands fully into or store a pair of gloves without worrying they'll fall out, and the sleeves are perhaps slightly long (though that's not all bad given whipping winds ). That said, I'm very happy with my purchase and would recommend this product to others.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance

Excellent purchase
July 09, 2011

I was looking for a coat that would keep me toasty warm after going camping over Memorial weekend when it was cold, rainy, hailing, and snowing. My down waist length backpacking jacket just didn't cut it because it would ride up at the waist and it was not waterproof. So I set out to find a long coat that was downfilled but also windproof which is hard to come by. The Tres Parka fits the bill. It has a down coat that zips out and looks very urban trendy. It will probably be all I need to wear in most cold weather where I live. And the outer shell also is its own coat, perfect for wearing in rainy blustery weather. It has insulation with satiny quilting on the inside and the outer layer is a thick microfiber material that looks great even in a more formal setting. It's actually a perfect coat for wearing in the city in bad weather because it look great. It's almost like an overcoat. The down coat liner has down in the arms, unlike the Tres Jacket which only has a down vest. And the down isn't too puffy that it would make you look marshmallowy. I followed the advice on the coats running small so instead of a large I got an extra large. It looks a tad bit bigger than I would like but I most likely will wear layers underneath so I would like to have that extra room. Plus I just had a baby and all my coats would not fit through my pregnancy so Id prefer to have it a bit larger in case I get pregnant again. It's nice that it will be wearable during pregnancy. If I shrink a bunch after my baby making days there will probably be an even nicer Patagonia coat by then :)

This is an incredible coat/parka! The fit makes you look slim, but it fits fine. I like the tapered waist - most parkas look bulky and dowdy - this one is chic and smart!

Great coat
November 17, 2012

The coat is obviously very high quality. I'm 5'5" 125 lb, slim, and got the brown small. It looks fantastic, and not at all like a puffy, shapeless winter coat. It is definitely slim-fitting. I can comfortably fit a chunky sweater over thin layers, but another jacket on top of that would be quite tight. However, I would not size up for myself, because then the shoulders would be too big. Though the pockets are indeed small, I don't worry about things in them falling out. However, I would not leave anything halfway in and sticking out (like gloves), because those will fall out. It's been mild in MN thus far, so the worst I've tested it out in was 19 degree windy weather. Felt nothing. Very warm, and stopped the wind cold. Love the 3-in-1 system. Makes me feel like I got more for my money, and both the interior coat and outer shell look really nice by themselves.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance

Weather Beater Parka
December 05, 2010

Parka(small) arrived, and I immediately loved style, color, and quality. CAVEAT: Problem with sizing; I wear size 6 (sometimes 4), parka was slightly tight (enough to question how comfortable it would be).(weight 110 lbs., 5 ft. 7"). I liked coat enough to order a medium, and I am looking forward to arrival of MEDUM parka.

December 10, 2010

This jacket is absolutely wonderful. Having a 3-in-1 system in a stylish, slim fitting jacket is rare. I love the shell on it's own, the down coat on it's own, and the two together. I'm sure I'll stay toasty and warm this winter.

Perfect winter coat!
October 28, 2011

I bought this coat for my trip to U.K. I've already owned Patagonia's Down With It Parka but needed something water-proof/wind-proof for cold, windy, and rainy weather in U.K. This coat was perfect! It's very stylish(great for the city like London), very warm, and yes, it DID block the wind and rain! It was much warmer than Down With It Parka. And I also liked the fact that I could use only shell when the weather was mild. The only negative point - as other people mentioned- was that the pockets were too small. When I had my iphone in my pocket I always had to worry that it might fall off the pocket.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance

VERY slim cut!
December 01, 2011

I bought this for my wife who is rather petite. The slim style was too snug for her. This is a very slim cut garment, especially considering it has a down liner. It is a great jacket.

sturdy& warm but confining
December 09, 2009

This coat is almost there. It is very warm and stylish w/it's flattering aline cut.The outer fabric is also very sturdy. It is also versatile in its uses. The problems: I weigh 120 lbs. and am 5' 4" and cannot fit a sweater under it w/out feeling confined in movement( and large was too large).I also wish the funnel collar was a bit shorter or more pliable as it covers my chin, which is great only when it's freezing.I think Im going to try on the Fiona parka and compare!

Women's Tres Parka
March 01, 2013

I purchased the Tres Parka in dark gray, size medium. I am 5'9", 125 lbs. with long arms and broad shoulders and the parka fits perfectly. The sleeves extend slightly beyond my wrists and the body is slim but roomy enough to wear a sweater underneath. There is no restriction of movement whatsoever even with the parka fully zipped. It is warm and wind proof-a perfect coat for Minnesota winters.

January 29, 2012

I tried this jacket on in a store and found that the L fit me. When I ordered the L I found it was too large and the sleeves waaaay too long. I have to return it but I will say this jacket is very quality and warm. My husband owns the M's version and he absolutely loves it. I have been waiting for it to go on sale.

Beautiful three season parka
November 07, 2011

This jacket is absolutely gorgeous, extraordinary warm, waterproof and wind proof! It has a feminine fit and a slimming silhouette. I ordered first the medium because I have fairly broad shoulders and I am pregnant (not such a good time to buy a fitted jacket I will wear for years..) but ended up exchanging it for the small. The medium was too big in the chest and sleeves and the sleeves were too long. This jacket is cut generous in the shoulders and chest but the waist is more fitted. In the size small the chest measures 20.5 inches and the waist 17.5 (add one inch for the medium and two for large). Also the shell has some stretch so it stretches for about another half inch. You really don't need to layer a lot with this jacket because it is so warm! For that reason I recommend not to size up because it may throw off the proportions of the jacket. Now that I am 8months pregnant I can barely zip the size small (thanks to the stretchy material) with a t-shirt underneath. I hope it will be perfect in another 2 months..for reference I am 5'4" and 125lbs (before pregnancy). On milder days I wear the outer shell alone or it goes also perfect with my Patagonia Merino sweater coat when I want less bulk but warmth (however, even with the puffy down coat underneath this jacket still offers a slim and beautiful fit). I am very happy with this purchase because I really got 3 jackets in one. In fact I will buy it in another color since I like it so much.

Bring it on!
March 27, 2011

This coat was everything I was looking for! I walk over a large pedestrian bridge daily to & from work that is exposed to high, blustery winds; a waist coat just won't cut it. Since I work 2nd shift, the temps in the winter can be extremely brutal! The length of this coat is perfect for keeping the winter out and the warmth in, no matter which way the wind is attacking. The collar zips up snugly to keep my neck insulated and warm and the hood protects my head from whatever elements nature throws at me. The fabric is great, not noisy as some winter coats can be, and it repels snow like an umbrella. The coat is not at all bulky, and the collar lays comfortably flat, away from your face when not all the way zipped. I am 5'8" and weigh 150. I purchased an XL as the description indicated slim fit. This coat is very flattering, worn both with and without the shell. The sleeves are nice and long and the coat hits me just above the knee (rather than mid-thigh as described). You can't go wrong with this one....Happy Winter!!!

January 19, 2012

I love this coat because I can wear it in really cold temperatures, mild temperatures and in the rain! The inner insulated coat has a great casual, sporty look and the outer shell coat can even be worn with a dressier outfit. I will wear it all the time. I normally wear a small, but an x-small fits better when you are wearing each of the layers individually.

Stylish, Warm Coat
January 31, 2013

I am extremely happy with this coat! To tell you about myself, I am 5'3" about 135lbs, somewhat large chested, with a slightly muscular build. I am not model-skinny nor super tall, so it was hard to find a coat that didn't drown me on my shorter frame. I tried this coat on in a store before finding it better priced here. Because the fit is so snug, the Small was too difficult to zip up over my chest, and wouldn't have allowed much room to be wearing thicker clothing underneath. I ended up getting the medium, which was a great fit. Yes, the sleeves are a little longer, but I think it's fine because my wrists don't freeze every time I move my arms! The length of the coat comes to a few inches above my knees. The coat is very warm, and you don't even need to wear tons of layers underneath it. Plus, I love the charcoal color. It's classy yet different than all of the other black coats everyone else has. The only negative thing I'd have to say is that every time I put the coat on, a feather comes out. Don't get me wrong- it's not gushing feathers. I just wish all of the ones I paid for would stay in! I take care of the coat and don't treat it roughly, so hopefully the ones coming out were just the few that got sewed into the seam or something. Overall, this is a great buy (especially if you get it on sale!). I highly recommend it.

my big coat
September 06, 2011

I got a large as i am 69 inches tall, so the arms are long enough. I weidg about 67 kg so it is a bit big in the hips but I used it as a ski coat over stretchbpants on a cold snowy day with just an expedition capilene, a light smartwool and a polypro undershirt. No need for glove liners just the lined shells (dakine ski gloves). It is light enough and i had no constriction. Comes to mid thigh on me so some skill required with a t bar lift. Going to take it camping. Grey color is understate and accepts accents well. Pockets are small. But the zippers stay closed.

December 21, 2009

It's cold in Idaho, but more to the point, my wife hates to be cold, and with a "grown up job," she needs something that looks professional but gets the job done. She really likes the coat. That said, they run small, so a very normal medium sized person fit the large best.

Nice but too slim-fitting
February 08, 2013

Beautiful coat, but definitely a slim fit. It's not meant to layer underneath, couldn't even fit a cotton sweater. Nice material, surprised that storm flap snaps were plastic and not metal -- not sure if they would hold up. Comfortable down layer. Returned it because the medium was too snug and a large would have been too big (5'4" 132 lbs.). A shame.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Cons: Cost, need a relaxed fit

I searched for a long time to find a down parka that didn't have animal fur trim, since I wanted to buy a garment that was cruelty free, but also stylish. The Tres Parka is perfect. I bought a size bigger than I normally wear since it stated it had a "slim fit", and it is nearly perfect. I love the knee length design and that it isn't bulky. I also love that Patagonia uses recycled polyster and donates 1% of its profits to grassroots organizations to support grassroots environmental organizations. I consider my investment a win-win and look forward to wearing it for years to come.

Pros: Great design

This is a great coat for cold weather urban adventures, rather than winter sports. Bought it as a gift for my wife, and it kept her warm in single digits on a recent vacation to Eastern Europe. She did wear layers underneath. She is 5'6", 120 lbs. and the size small fit her well, even over a fleece and slim fitting down vest. The coat is flattering in comparison to many down coats. Only criticism is that the hood does not cinch down, so the wind blows in. By the way, the hood is not insulated, so she had to wear a hat under it. Still, she was very happy with it, even in blowing snow and sleet.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, Cons: hood design

This jacket is the perfect 3 seasons coat. In the fall wear just the outer coat or the down alone, during the winter and on wet/snowy days, wear them all together. The style is great, but is a slim fit which means you can't wear and don't need a bulky sweater underneath. I bought the small and do wish it was an inch or 2 longer. I am 5'8" and 135 with a slim but muscular build. The medium was too big in arms, body, chest but I preferred the length...just about 2 inches longer than the small. I kept the small for the trim fit. The fabric is beautiful and functional!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, Cons: ran a bit short

Nice coat in winter. I like it very much. Very stylish! Lucky I bought a M because I use to buy S, but after I read the reviews I decided to buy a bigger one. The arms are a bit too long and the pockets small but I can live with that.
