working with Altrec
January 04, 2011
I cant rate the ice ax with a good heart, this is my first and was purchased for a planned trek. This review is about working with Altrec. This was my first order from Altech. I was pleased with the experience. I had ordered this for Christmas and due to the snow storms didnt ship out on time. I contacted Altech and they were willing to ship another ax overnight and let me return the ax that was in route. Decided that it was ok for a late delivery but was please with Altechs offer to do whatever it took
good ice axe for hiking

So glad I got the longer one. It is useful as that third contact point while hiking up and the trail is icy. This axe is light enough that I don't mind carrying it when not in use. And it comes with a leash, so I didn't have to purchase that extra!!!
Happy so far

This is my first ice axe and I've heard nothing but good things about this one, especially for the price I bought it for here. I am extremely happy with it so far but still have a lot more experience to gain with it. I am impressed with how light it is.
So light weight

My husband and I used these for a hike up Telescope Peak in Death Valley, CA. We were happy we ordered the longer length and that they were so light weight. We recommend the same to other friends who want to get into mountaineering.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever
great companion to shoes

The Snowalker Ice Axe is a great asset to have when out snowshoeing. Its length is optimal for hilly terrain, and when necessary the axe head provides aggressive tooth for a safe anchor point. Our entire region experienced several ice storms this winter, and I would not have been able to safely walk in some of my favourite areas without a tool like this. The materials are high-quality and have a pleasant tactile feel whether wearing gloves or not. I only wish I discovered it earlier on in the season!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance
very light and still perfectly balanced axe

i have three different axes and this one is my favorite for glacier crossing or light walls (less than 50deg). This axe really shows how equipment has become better and better over the decades. I am climbing now for over 30 yrs. Great job by Petzl !!!!!
