Description

Ever been blinded by your backpacking or climbing buddy's headlamp? The highly portable and lightweight Tactikka XP shines through the glaring problems of one-light-for-all-applications with a series of attachable colored wide angle lenses. Go blue for low illumination reading while others sleep, or opt for red when you're tying on flies that appeal to those big nocturnal bass. The colored lenses fit over the wide angle lens and make it easy to diffuse the lighting or use it for proximity applications (we like the red lamp because it helps preserve night vision). The Tactikka XP offers the same features found in the Tikka XP headlamp, but it comes with extras like an ADAPT universal connection that attaches to climbing helmets. There's also a clip so you can attach the Tactikka XP to your belt, pack or harness. The powerful LED lamp has a long life and can be set at three different levels to preserve battery power or illumination range. Best of all, even with the extra features and lenses, the Tactikka XP weighs less than five ounces, so there's no excuse for not taking one along in your daypack, bike panniers and climbing approach backpack.

Tactikka XP Adapt 4.8 5 4 4
Great backpacking light Used this light in Alaska in the autumn for one week. Found the light bright enough to walk int he dark in a fairly hard snowstorm. It is light enough for walking on trails, but if you are path-finding a trail while bush-wacking -- looking for opening in the brush and trees 30 yards or more ahead, you might want a brighter light, such as the Mammut TX1 Lucido, but then it is heavier. While it puts out plenty of light for walking, I do not think it emits enough light for going fast on a moonless night, such as for biking, skiing, or when you are moving that quickly -- the light does not shine far enough ahead to allow you to see, decide and react at biking or skiing speeds. I also like the ability to set brightness to conserve battery power, or choose to use a brighter light on a tough trail, or to see what went bump in the night outside the tent. I also like the variety of light filters, and how quickly I can load a filter. The unit is lightweight enough that it does not give me a headache, which I frequently get with stuff strapped to my head. I did find it less than easy to adjust the strap while on the move, and it is difficult to change out filters with others on the head strap, but they are there for me to get to. Also, battery compartment closes with a small plastic tab, and if this were my only light on a long trip, I'd worry that if I broke the tab off, my only light might become inoperable. All in all a good light for trail walking. November 28, 2010
Good headlight Construction is nice and the battery compartment is more user friendly and robust than the older Tikka's. I was hoping it would have been brighter, but the boost takes care of it for when you need more light. The adjustments are easy and very versatile attachments. June 18, 2010
THE BEST!! This is actually my second one. I lost my last one while on an adeventure race and I was sick to my stomach over it. I am in military training and had used my first one for months out in the woods. It had proven itself time andtime again for lighting power, functionality, convenience, and battery life. I had to get another and will put this new one to good use. Please pray that my last one found a good home. September 15, 2008
Always ready to work The Tactikka XP Adapt proved to be a great investment. Superb light and an excellent "adapt" kit to use it in different circumstances without tools or modifications. Very well crafted. January 3, 2007
