Royal Mitt - Nice but runs very small
December 28, 2011

This is a nice glove particularly when on sale. Howver, it runs very small, I ordered a medium and it was like a xs - went to xl and that seemed to fit.

Runs Extremely Small
December 06, 2011

I never had a chance to wear out in the cold to see how they would work, because they did not fit. i normally wear a medium-large in gloves, but I wanted gloves I could take off and on quickly and easily, so I ordered XL. To my surprise, the XL were equivalent to a medium at best. I could get the gloves on, but they were so snug that they were uncomfortable. I returned them.

Pros: unknown
Cons: ran 3 sizes small

What were they thinking?
December 01, 2011

Just got the gloves for my wife whose hands are often cold, so mitts are the only answer. Other reviews suggested that the Royal Mitten was a warm and well made alternative. The leather is supple and the mitten generally well made. However, this is the wonkiest design and fit I can imagine. I understand that some folks like the "over the cuff" and some like the "under the cuff" fit, but these gloves afford neither. They are too short to tighten over the cuff of your jacket or fit securely over! They leave the wearer's wrists exposed. The warmth rating could never be deemed appropriate for cold day use...spring skiing maybe. The liner is light fleece. The description of "low profile" should read, "no insulation". These were cheap, so they're okay for after dinner walks at home. That said, they could never have commanded anything approaching full retail price as a skiing or mountain recreation mitt.

Pros: supple well made
Cons: wierd fit poor coverage, poor choice for anything but spring skiing

Excellent Hand Insulation
November 18, 2011

Royal Mitt - well made, supple. In the 'freaky' snowstorm that occurred in NY #in October 2011# this Mitt kept my fingers 'toasty' warm. Since the mitt feels and appears quite lightweight I was concerned that it may not keep my fingers as warm as the label suggests #temperature range -12oC to +4oC# but infact it kept my fingers quite warm. I would advise attention to sizing, I bought large #my glove size# but the sizing is generous, medium may have been a better fit; the closure at the wrist helps to reduce the gap that would otherwise be a problem. Mitts on a whole tend to restrict dexterity somewhat, with the Royal Mitt I find this to less of problem.

Pros: lightweight with good insulation
Cons: size - probably too generous
Comfort: 4 / 5
Durability: 4 / 5

Well-made, not so warm
January 22, 2011

Got these for around town, as gloves don't do it for me. Construction is excellent, as is dexterity. The cause of that excellent dexterity, however, is the lack of insulation. There is none on the palm, and very little on the top of the mitt. Were I to wear these on the mountain, my hands would be frozen in short time. Hipora waterproof breathable insert is nothing spectacular, things can get a little clammy in there, but I find this is true of most membranes other than GoreTex and eVent. Fit is true to size, and the cuff is low-profile, so you can get it under your jacket sleeve. In short, I like them a lot, but it's hard to imagine wearing them for their intended purpose.

Pros: Build quality, Ease of use
Cons: not warm
