Great styling, many colors but no green?...good price, well made

My main problem with this helmet is that the stated head sizes don't match the size designation. Size chart shows me to need a Large but it was quite tight. Extra Large was a bit loose. The foam padding, while being well formed, compressed very little and did not allow for slight deviations in head size. Needs the color green thrown into the selection.
Comfortable, good looks, great price

Feels safe. Stays in place. Looks good and the foam liner doesn't suck up the water and feel squishy during a roll over or accidental swimming lesson.
good overall helmet

Helmet is very comfortable and fits well. Strap is a little annoying to work but not a big hassle. Very good helmet for your money.
Great Fit, great protection

These Pro-Tec helmets are very comfortable, light and hold up very well to abuse like hard rocks along sea cave walls.
I really like

This helmet is very comfortable and has saved my noggin on more than one occasion. The straps adjust easily and I like how it comes down for full coverage in the back of the head.
Comfortable and Durable

I used this helmet all last summer. It was always comfortable. I dumped once from my kayak and hit my head on a rock. This helmet was barely scratched.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
Lightweight, effective and at a good price

I agree with other reviews as far as sizing though; the fit was a little too tight front-to-back. I had to shave a little bit from the forehead area padding styrofoam to get a comfortable (vs a dent-in-my-forehead) fit form this otherwise perfect helmet.
Just the best helmet period.

The comfort of the Pro-tec product is best of its class. The Black ones look cool although harder to spot while kayaking in a cave. Very comfortable. I own six now, one for each kayak!
Pro-Tec Ace Water Helmet
December 05, 2004
The Pro Tec Ace provides kayakers with a light weight but tough product for heat protection. It is well contructed and has good ventilation. Chin strap is comfortable and thick enough not to "bite' underneath (some companies use this cheap nylon webbing that can be uncomfortable). The only concern is ear protection-- some helmets have high impact ear flaps so in the event of hitting a rock sideways the ears are protected.. a minor concern in Clases 1, 2, 3 but higher in 4 and 5. There's also not pre-drilled holes for a face cage for roles. This should be added. If you have a head sized of any significance go for the XL model FIRST. The large runs small for 7 1/8 hat size and above.. this required a return which the Altrec folks did handle well.
Great, versatile comfortable, and lightweight

This helmet is a great deal. I wanted a helmet I coud use for both Kayaking and Biking. While biking sweat is not absorded by the helmet pads, since this is a water helmet, so you may get a few drips down your face, not really a big deal. The sizing is pretty true. I am a medium in all other helemt brands and that is my size on this one. Overall this helmet is great, versatile, comfortable, and EXTREMELY lightweight. A great buy for the money.
another satisified customer

i am no expert on white water helmets but this helmet seems to be made pretty well, the price is right. A good beginner helmet for the lighter stuff.

I have been using these helmets for years with my Water Ski Team. The helmet has a great fit and is very durable. I would highly recommend this helmet for water ski use.
Only one my husband will wear
November 21, 2011
Bought this for my husband to wear surf kayaking. After a few battles this is the only one he will wear. Yeah! Safety and comfort and style = great combo and a happy wife.Pros: Great design, Great value
Great Helmet for the money.

This is my 3rd Pro-Tec helmet. The sizes have changed a bit since my 1st one. You should have a bright pink one. I had to custom paint the last one for my sister because we couldn't find a pink one. Great Whitewater beginnner helmet. It made it thru class 1-5+ rapids multiple times. But don't drop it in the gravel. It can't handle that. Overall, Great Helmet...

Helmet fit very nice, was every bit of what I wanted and more.
March 28, 2005
I bought this helmet for caving and working in mines. The protection it gives is a great plus. It's very comfortable that you don't even know your wearing it. I have really put it through some hard knocks. The soft pading on the inside comforms to your head and protect your ears.If you get this one for white water rafting you wont be disappointed.Excellent helmet.
Ace Water Helmet

if you have a small head like i do, the xs ace water helmet fits nicely. i love having my ears uncovered, all and all a great lid.Pros: Great design

Check out other reviews, this helmet is fine for the casual boater but should not be used for white water.
Stylin' Noggin Protection
August 04, 2007
This is my second Protec Ace helmet, my first having cracked after some abusive treatment in the garage. After analyzing all the pertinent factors, I decided my head was worth $39.95. How convenient that was the price of the helmet! So the price was right, but I also likes the way it looks and the plentiful ventilation holes that provide a lovely mosaic tan on my bald scalp. I have a big head, so both helmets were XL, but the first had enough room that I usually wore a hat underneath. The new one seems to have much more padding and I actually had to shave some of the foam down to get a comfortable fit. Now I have a visor on the helmet and I usually wear the helmet whenever I'm out in my kayak. I'm a sea kayaker and I use this for hanging out around the rocks and for surfin'. Don't know if it would be up to the rigors of WW paddling. I have a more expensive helmet I could use, but this one's too comfy and stylin' so it's my helmet of choice.
June 26, 2009
Good fit, lightweight, doesn't pinch or cause any discomfort like many. Of course, a great look finishes it out to be an excellent helmet for rafting, kayaking, or whatever.

This helmet is great. Lightweight, but you still feel safe in it. Very comfortable and stylish.
