Great vest for birding
January 17, 2012
My husband and I each recently bought Royal Robbins Men's Field Guide Vests. We are both short people. I am about 5' and thin and I was very pleasantly surprised that the Men's small fit nicely. My husband, at 5'4" also was happy with the fit of the medium. Bigger people might want to go up a size. It is too bad that Royal Robbins no longer makes the women's vest that had tabs on the sides to give it a more feminine look, but this vest is more attractive than several others we looked at. The vest has plenty of well placed pockets that easily hold our cell phone, point and shoot cameras, birding field guide, sunglasses, and water bottle. There are hidden and zippered pockets that will be handy for travel.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of useExcellent quality vest with plenty of sturdy pockets

I have a license to "carry concealed" and this is a great vest for that purpose. It has many well built pockets that can be used to carry the necessary items needed when carrying. The vest is long enough to cover the belt area which is necessary when carrying. I would recommend this vest to the growing number legal concealed carry folks that want to be prepared to protect themselves and their families.
Great Travel Vest!

This is my favorite travel vest, my 3rd purchase of this model, and I've tried many, many others. Scottvest is worthless in comparison. Plenty of pockets, mostly zippers (I don't consider velcro or snaps secure. For air travel, rarely need to access underseat bag. RR replaced my 1st one when a zipper jammed. I got the new one because the mesh lining on my old one was pretty frayed; and "Everglade" (charcoal) shows stains and sweat less. Ready for what I carry: Passport, boarding pass, ID's, pad & pens, 2 earpods (Etymonic for sound reduction, cheap pods for backup) Iphone, mid sized P&S camera, keys, glasses, pill holder, small flashlight, 2 wallets, secret money capsule, 16 oz water bottle and MORE! add a rain shell and a lightweight capilene long sleeve and it's good to @ 35F. I've never been robbed, not even in Barcelona where I witnessed 7 thefts in 7 days!
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, holds a reasonable p&s - unlike the scottvest, Cons: wears - but not particularly quickly., should add velcro to 2 side snap pocketsWrite a review for the Royal Robbins Field Guide Vest here.
Comfortable, well-made, and functional
January 11, 2010
I have about 2 weeks worth of daily wear with the Field Guide Vest. I have worn the vest daily because it does exactly what I want it to do. It holds my stuff for quick access - phone, small tools, and other gear. (It is missed when in the washing machine, so I likely will get another one.) Pockets all work great and this looks like a vest that will last. The vest wears well for me even when unzipped in front. Also, now my eyeglasses stay in their vest pocket instead of unexpectedly sliding out of shirt pockets; my cell phone is much more easily answered than extracting it from a jeans pocket or from a belt holder, especially while sitting. The vest is also comfortable and looks much less geeky than I expected, both with long-sleeved and short-sleeved shirts. I forget that I am wearing it except when I want something, and realize that it is in a nearby pocket of the new vest. I will need to evaluate its hot weather suitability in a few months, but thus far all is positive. If you normally wear a medium shirt and it fits a bit loosely, you may be able to get by with a small size if you don't plan to put much in the pockets and intend to wear it unzipped. I am 5'8" & 150 lbs and have the small size, but will get a medium next time - I didn't know there was so much room in the pockets, and a medium would allow me to carry even more stuff! The small is a little snug for me when zipped while carrying cell phone, glasses, pens, a couple of pocket knives, paperback book, and some small tools, that with just a knit pullover underneath. The fit is actually what I expected, although I am pleasantly surprised by the comfort and function of the product, and plan to buy another.
good stuff

This is the second one of these vests I've bought..this time as a gift and it was well-received. I've worn mine every day to work for more than 3 years. It still looks good, but it is starting to show some wear. No broken zippers or tears or loose seams yet. I'll probably get another one next year. Yeah, they're expensive, but well worth it. This model has 14 pockets and you'll lose your keys in it the first week, guaranteed.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Cons: CostDid you recently buy the Royal Robbins Field Guide Vest? Write a review.
Perfect Field Vest
March 01, 2012
Have shopped long and hard for the perfect replacement to my old birding vest. No matter this is a man's vest, better than any I've owned. Lightweight, mesh liner, lightly padded collar for comfort. Plenty of pockets (fits my field guides, notebook, phone, etc) but not so many that it's overkill. Super happy with product.
