great
April 24, 2012
I have 8 of these skirts, yes I said 8. I love them because they are long enough for me. I am six feet tall and most skirts are either too long or too short. It is very flattering and an ideal travel skirt. The skirt runs rather large in the waist but I just wear it on my hips. Some of my skirts fit better than others although they are all a size six. I had darts put in the waist of two of them. I originally bought the first one for travel but I often just wear them running errands. I am waiting for a navy blue option!! I always get compliments on them.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of useWorks great!

I can use this skirt for practically any ocasion and in any type of weather...very comfy. I have also discovered that I can wear this skirt with almost any shoe from my Chacos in the summer time to my boots in the winter. Enough pockets to hold my essentials when I dont want to carry a bag.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, PerformanceFantabulous

This is my new go to skirt. Purchased for a tropical vacation- it was perfection day after day. Dries fast. Flattering cut. Useful pockets. Cool to wear in the heat. Long enough to be comfortable (and not have to worry if you want to sit on the grass/sand/etc) HIGHLY recommend.
Pros: Great design, PerformanceHard wearing travel/hiking skirt
February 16, 2013
A great wrinkle resistant skirt. It runs very large. I needed to go down a full size. I am tall (180cm, size 10) and it falls right on the knee. It works well worn on the hips for a longer length (the too large size 12). The wide flat waistband is very flattering even on round tummies. As stated it only has one side zippered pocket about the size of an iPhone.

Royal Robbins Discovery Skirt

Overall it seems like a good choice for what is out there for travel skirts. The fit is large and the material accentuates my belly. I ordered 1 size down, the 6. I normally wear an 8. I am 5'2 and weigh 145 lbs. I have wide hips and waist. If I had a slimmer waist I could have worn a 4! The material is nice and stretchy, unusual for a skirt. I did not like the slate color. I will return and get the everglade color, which is better for my skin tone.

I purchased the grey skirt last summer. It is cool, lightweight, comfortable and washes nicely drying quickly. My husband and I went to Uganda this winter so I purchased a second one in tan. With my many Altrec tops, these skirts worked well in the hot climate. I washed and rinsed them out by hand at night. I am 5'8" 150 lbs and the medium fits perfectly. If anything, I would prefer a little more length but that is because I am tall.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, easy styl!, Cons: a little short for a tall womanGreat traveling or hiking skirt
October 27, 2009
I love this skirt, it is comfortable, has great secure pockets, lightweight, wrinkle resistant. I like it so much that I ordered the skirt in three other colors. It does run a whole size large so if you wear a 10, buy an 8.

I'm not particularly a fan of this skirt. Maybe it's just my shape. If I go with my regular size, it is wide and nearly falling off, but when I size down for a better fit, the cut makes me look like a mermaid. Durable material, but holds a wrinkle pretty well. Also, the skirt length is just not very flattering on my 5'10" frame. It sounds like many love this skirt and I wish I were in the majority, but this one does not work for a tall, slim, pear-shape.

Great Skirt, Runs Large
April 26, 2011
I am normally a size 8, but bought this skirt in a size 6 on the recommendations of other reviewers. This is good information as even the 6 feels generous. Looks great, however, and will provide a carefree travel piece.

Excellent Travel Skirt
March 01, 2011
This skirt runs large in the waist--order a size smaller and you will be happy with it. It is good to travel with. Just wash in cold water and change tops and go. It is a good length to wear in any country. Does not require a belt--has pockets and few wrinkles. Love the comfort. Have worn the skirt in cold and hot months.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great valueLove this Skirt - I have 2

Very functional. May be dressed up or down. Super comfy. If you are between two sizes, pick the smaller size. I wear a 10 or 12 and the 10 fit perfect.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, comfortable, no ironExcellent everyday skirt

I am very pleased with this skirt. I was looking for something comfortable to wear during the hot Austin summer, that would also be durable and practical. I am a stay-at-home-mom with 2 small kids so any skirt I wear will inevitably get grabbed, pulled, covered in food smears and playground dirt. This skirt is very flattering and after 3 months of regular wear it still looks new. After reading the reviews, I ordered down a size and I am happy I did. When I first received the skirt, it seemed noisy, but this went away quickly. My only complaint is that I expected the Everglade color to be brown, but it turned out to be an army green.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, flattering fitGo to skirt fo ALL occassions

I am 5'8'' 145 lbs and do not normally wear a 2 in any size (except when I was probably 1 year of age or in my "skinny" dreams) but a 2 worked here. OK, I will start with my first oder, a black and tan discovery skirt - odered a size 6, too big, sent back BUT LOVED the skirt. Next order - ordered a size 4, too big, sent back SO I tried a 2 and it was just right! This skirt can be made up to look dressy or casual. The day I wore it (the black) I had to attend a school function, a mass and a wake later that evening. The skirt carried itself great all day and I even recieved a few compliments on what a great looking skirt I had on! Not bad for a first days wear ;) Went home that night and tried to order them in every other color BUT no more size 2... Will keep checking site and hoping they receive more. My advice is to go down 2 sizes and believe that you can fit it - because you will!

Love the skirt but am returning it to get a smaller size. It was just too big. Great material with stretch. I'm 5'7" and 140 pounds and usually wear a size 8. I could pull it off without undoing the zipper. So I will love it in a size 6.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, Cons: zipper can snag on materialGreat skirt

Finally a light weight travel skirt with plenty of pockets so one can go out without a bag. It is great to find skirt for sightseeing and a nice dinner out. I just wish the pocket on right seam had an invisible zipper. I would order smaller next time.
Best skirt I have ever owned
December 09, 2009
Multi use skirt it is! Looks great for hiking, dinner out, or dressed up. Repels wonderfully and drapes beautifully. Tummy area flattens just through the design. Extremely complimentary design for my trim waist and full hips. I am tall and the skirt is long enough to cover my knees. My iPhone in the zipper pocket doesn't distort the shape either and even better-won't fall out! Washes great and doesn't get all pilly even when accidentally washed with towels. Best skirt I have ever owned and have it in jet black and acorn.

Took this skirt on a 3 week tour of Croatia. It was very comfortable. Can dress it up or down for any occasion. I liked it so much that I ordered the neutral sand version for future trips and home use.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Great valueAMAZING!
March 03, 2011
This skirt is perfectly designed to be flattering, comfortable, and walk the line between casual and formal. I can wear this anywhere and not feel too dressed up, but I can also wear it to work. I love it and want it in every color! The sizing is off, however. I'm usually a size 4 and the size 2 (the smallest that was available) is a little big in the waist on me. But I'll just have a tailor bring in the waist a bit.
Pros: flattering, comfortable, cuteWaist too big
June 06, 2010
I have found anything in a size 10 from Royal Robbins fits like a glove, however, the waist on the Women's Discovery Skirt was way too loose for me. I decided to return it and not try a size 8 as the size 10 hips fit perfectly. I was disappointed for the first time by Royal Robbins:(
LOVE IT!
April 01, 2010
I love this skirt so much, I have four of them, in different colors. They're comfy, stretchy, have clean lines, and don't wrinkle. Perfect for my active life. I've gotten many comments on how cute they are, too.

Comfy Travel Skirt
March 12, 2011
I purchased this skirt to wear during my trip to Italy, but I am already wearing it regularly at home, the store, and work. I read the previous reviews and purchased a size smaller than my usual size. It fits perfectly! I am 5' 2" and the hem falls just below my knees (I wear the skirt a little high in the waist) which is the perfect length for visiting churches in Rome. Also, the fabric is nice and stretchy which makes it so comfy. I have already washed it and hung dried it (directions say it can go in the dryer). The skirt dried quickly and I didn't need to iron it. I have both the black and the charcoal. The charcoal goes with everything.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of useI disagree on sizing...
July 04, 2011
I took the advice and ordered down one size. I usually wear a 10 or size medium in skirts. Size 8 was just a little too snug for me, but I do prefer skirts to ride a little low on my hips. I exchanged for a size 10 and feel more comfortable with that. Although this is not a straight skirt by any means, it fits closer through the hips and upper thighs than my favorite a-line skirt. Love the zipper pocket. Washes up beautifully.

Great skirt for dress, casual or hiking the trails. Lightweight, easy to clean and great for travel. Order 1 size smaller for best fit. Pockets for keys or cell phone.
It is a wonderful skirt
November 10, 2010
I just love it. I have four of them and find that I want to wear one every time I work which is two days a week. Sometimes I must convince myself to wear something else! The skirt is "hip" comfortable and washes up well. It does run a bit large in the waist. Highly recommend.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: a bit large in the waistGreat looking, great fit
February 03, 2011
This skirt fits me perfectly, a surprise, since so often skirts are either too tight or too large in the waist, or pull across my fanny. Plus the fabric looks high quality, important for our upcoming trip to Italy. Definitely recommend.

I cannot recommend this skirt enough as it washes like iron, travels beautifully, fits comfortably, and last but not least, looks nice on. The pockets are such a bonus; keeps me from having to carry a bag with me for quick trips into the store. I am purchasing three of the new colors to go with the four that I already have. Looking forward to packing them for a summer full of travel and adventure.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, nice length, pocketsLooks great

I bought a size 8 and had to return for a size 6 - it was very loose in the waist. The 6 is perfect. The length hits mid-knee. Perfect skirt for travel - very versatile, light weight/packable. I am now buying a 2nd skirt in black. Launders perfectly, no ironing needed!
Best travel skirt ever!

Altrec sent this quickly. The skirt is well-made, extremely comfortable, and dressy enough to wear for most occasions when traveling.
Very good travel skirt
July 07, 2012
I bought this skirt for touring in Europe. I ordered my normal size, which fit perfectly. It seems to repel dirt, but I couldn't resist washing it to see if it would drip-dry overnight and - it did! There is just a hint of stretch in the material. Resists wrinkles - just shake out after squashing in a backpack. I got the charcoal color and like it very much. Highly recommend.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great valueAlmost Perfect Skirt
September 10, 2011
This skirt fits a little large in the waist, but if you want to wear it below the waist, it will be perfect. I am going to take it in about an inch. It is extremely comfortable; lightweight, stretchy, and for travel it will wash and dry quickly. Not too fitted and camouflages big hips and thighs. Length is very flattering with the ruffle hemline coming just below my knees. I am 5 feet 7 inches tall, weigh 185 pounds, and the size 14 fits me well. All the pockets are a real bonus. I am going to use it instead of shorts. It is easy to move in this skirt, so why not!
Pros: Great design, Build quality, PerformanceDiscovery Skirt
January 26, 2012
I wanted a travel skirt with lots of secure pockets for travel documents, with a close fit around the waist and hips, but with a flippy bottom - and that's what I got. I ordered a size 2, which fits my 28" waist, 34.5" hips, and my 5' 3", 115 lb. frame perfectly, riding just below my waist, a feature I also wanted. Depending on the brand, I normally wear a 2 or 4 pant. I haven't worn the skirt yet - except around the house - but will be doing so when I go to to South America in two weeks. I am very pleased with the Discovery Skirt so far.
Pros: Great designGreat Travel "Mate"
May 12, 2011
I bought this skirt for Travel (including many hours sitting). It meets all my criteria: - light weight - No Wrinkles (roll & pack, then shake & hang upon arrival). - Comfort: no binding around waist or anywhere. Best yet, I can barely feel I have it on at all! I'm considering buying another, in a different color. -
Pros: comfort, Cons: would like brownMy favorite skirt
July 16, 2011
This skirt has so many good things going for it, it's hard to know where to begin. The fabric is wonderful for travel; it doesn't wrinkle, it's easy to wash and dries very quickly. I roll it up tightly and put it into a small corner of my suitcase or carry on and, when I unroll it, it's perfect. It has just enough stretch to be comfortable and the fabric is lightweight. The pockets are very convenient. The fit is flattering, coming just below the knee. The waist is a bit lower than natural waist level. I'm 5'5", 135 pounds, and I ordered an 8, which is perfect. The price is very reasonable, considering how it can be dressed up or down and the construction is top-notch. See? I told you there were so many good things about this skirt! Buy it--you won't regret it.

Discovery skirt
October 14, 2011
Love, love, love that this skirt comes to the knees. I am so tired of all dresses and skirts today either being above the knee or to the ankles. There are some of us who find knee length to be the most attractive. I am going on island trips and love the zipped pocket and side pockets for travel. The material is pretty wrinkle resistant and the fit sooo comfortable. I love the slight flair hemline. Because I orderd black, I can dress it up or down.

Long for petites
July 22, 2010
This skirt is probably a 23" length, I am 5'4" and it hit me right in the upper calf, which unfortunately is not as flattering on me as an above the knee length. It does have lots of pockets and the fabric is wonderful, and it is a very pretty and unusual style. I agree with the other reviewers: order one size down and it will fit just like your "usual" size. This is true even compared to other royal robbins skirts/skorts - for some reason these run exactly one size too large. Even with the "adjusted" sizing the skirt is still very comfortable in the waist/hips, slimming but not at all binding.

What a great purchase! Roll it up and pack it for any trip. Great for dress up or just put it on with a t-shirt and flip flops and hit the road! Fun and flirty!

I got this so I could have a skirt for weekends: errands, casual night out. First wearing was on a hot Saturday following a long run. I was overheated and needed comfortable clothes to finish my errands. What a good choice. Took me to the Mall, and a long drive and out at night. I urged my sister to buy one too; good for her long days at work and eves out with her hubby: she bought 2!

Fabulous Travel Skirt +
January 25, 2012
Been looking forever for a travel skirt that I could dress up or down and would pack without wrinkles. This is IT. It's modest enough to wear in the middle east but savvy enough for the Continent. I plan to wear it in Hawaii this year. It will be great at home all summer, too. Just wish the side zipper pocket had a concealed zipper but I guess these visible zippers are all the style right now.
Pros: Great design, appropriate anywhereBest skirt ever!!
June 16, 2010
I love this skirt and ordered it in several colors! Great fit and very flattering! I would recommend ordering 1 size smaller. As I am on the short side, 5'4'', this skirt is a perfect length (just above the knee). Lightweight and easy to pack!
THE most wonderful skirt!!
January 27, 2012
At last, I have found the perfect skirt!! It exceeds my expectations to tell the truth. Very flattering 'flounce' hemline that makes it so easy to walk, flattering length, sits below the waist, body lengthening for a shorter person, AND the most wonderful non wrinkling woven fabric that doesn't appear to pill or snag. I am so pleased, I just may have to decide on another color!! I got black, I always pick black first, but surely there will be another color that suits my fancy!
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of useRuns Big
September 21, 2009
Like most Royal Robbins clothes, this runs a little big so order down a size. I bought this skirt in my normal size but it is too big in the waist. Despite that, I love the skirt and get compliments every time I wear it. I've worn it with t-shirts and blouses and it looks good with both. Needs no ironing and repels stains too!
Great Skirt -- I want more!
June 29, 2012
I am 5'3", weigh 147 and typically wear a 10 petite. After reading the sizing issues surrounding this skirt, I ordered a smaller size in khaki wondering if I would immediately send it back. As I tried on the 8, I found that it's a loose, but comfortable fit and is an incredibly flattering style. It makes me look skinnier! We are frequent travelers and I am always concerned about the lack of pockets in my clothes. This skirt takes care of that problem as well. There's a place for my id card, my money, my chapstick. Depending on where we go, I can dress this skirt up or down. This skirt is my new favorite and I really want more!
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, stylishZipper sags and looks weird
July 16, 2012
I paid attention to other reviewers and ordered a 2 for my 5'8", 128-lb runner's frame. It fits well in all respects except that when it settles on my hips there is a strange pleat that forms around the zipper. It sags and pokes out and just looks weird. Probably if there were a smaller size this wouldn't happen as the skirt would be higher on my hips. So it is going back. I'm disappointed, because it seems comfortable, durable, and an excellent choice for traveling. The length is good for someone whose knees are pushing 60 and look it, yet it's not dowdy. Maybe for the next iteration of this skirt, the zipper could be on the side, or the cut could be less roomy.
Pros: Build quality, Cons: Bad designWow, runs large!
June 01, 2010
Definitely size down. I ordered my usual size and had a good 3" of extra space. Less cotton feeling than expected and more of a ripstop-type fabric. Seems well made overall, just... size down.
