When venturing outside on a cold morning - for a snowshoe adventure or a simple java mission - there are two things you would never fail to do for yourself: 1. Layer to protect against the elements 2. Take your four-legged friend best friend. Shouldn't said friend be afforded the same protection against the cold? All-weather protective gear reduces the loss of core body heat (and also protects from brush and burrs). The Ruffwear K-9 Overcoat features a recycled fleece insulating liner enclosed in a durable, recycled polyester shell. Approximately 95 precent of the K-9 Overcoat is made from recycled materials.

Fit Tip: This coat will fit loosely around your pet's waist while fitting snug around their chest. If between sizes on the size chart, choose the smaller of the two sizes.

We just got the K9 overcoat for our German Shorthair Pointer and we love it! It's well-made of good materials and he loves it! He gets quite wiggly when he's excited to go outside so we needed something that's quick and easy to put on and this coat is! I love the reflective stripes and also the light loop on the top where we attached a bike light for late-night walks. We highly recommend the K9 Overcoat!

More than anything, the best thing about this raincoat is that it has reduced the amout of water that is shaken around my house by wet dogs.

This coat is quality and looks durable. I did have to return for better fit even after measuring but am fitting for a Golden Retriever that is 6 months old and will have some room to grow.

My hound/pointer mix is the consummate athlete. I see lots of other dogs playing at the park with their coats half on and half off, but not my girl. Ruff Wear coats are the BEST for really active dogs. They stay on, they're made incredibly well, with great materials. That's all my girl will wear for the rest of her life!

We have 3 Vizsla's & 1 Great Dane in our household. We just rescued one of the Vizsla's a few months ago, so we knew we were going to need another coat. We love the K-9 Overcoat. All the dog's have them and work very well for our active household.

I was skeptical whether my dog would actually go for the idea of this coat, but he really loves it. We got it for winter vacation, as we live in FL, but the day it came he wanted to run around the neighborhood in 90 degree heat to show it off to everybody. As a big lab, the neck is very fitted for him; if it was any smaller, it would be uncomfortable, but as it is everything fits perfectly.
Norm - 2009-10-10it fits!
I've been looking for a coat that covers my dachshund's chest. A wilderness dog, she will go anywhere, but she hates snowplowing when the snow builds up under her coat. This overcoat prevents that, and it fits her odd little body.

Picked up a size larger than specified for my lab (90 lbs) who has a really long thick neck and it fits his great. Well made product.
Anonymous - 2009-09-23sizing for gentle leader harness
The gentle leader harness works from the front of the dog's chest, so I had to size up one size to make the harness work and come out at the neck hole with the tight neck fit. The bottom strap that holds the vest in place is elastic (which they didn't know or didn't tell me when I called in to ask about the sizing. You can cinch it up tighter to make this work out and stay on. It just moves back a little bit on the dog's rear end but appears to work fine for the dog.
Pam - 2009-08-27k-9 over coat
I have 2 bull mastiffs that will be traveling with us to Chicago this winter. We are from Florida and I know the dogs will be needing something like these jackets to stay warm and dry when we are outside. I ordered size large and had to send them back for XL's. The body part fit ok because you can adjust the fix. But the neck area you can not adjust and it was to snug for them. I love these jackets. so well made and the ability to be able to adjust them really makes for a perfect fit. Just make sure if you have a large necked dog get the XL. I have say one other thing here... this company, Altrec employee's are wonderful and very helpful. I will pass there name on to all our friends. Thank you Guys !

Highly recommend! Light enough to wear in summer - and the outside sheds water, while the inside is soft. My dog loves that his body does not get wet! It is easier to get him to go out in the rain now!

This is a terrific coat. Annie is an aging pit-shepherd mix with the body of pit. She weighs in at 58lbs and has lost most of the fur on her belly. Measurement-wise she was at the top end of the medium. The fit is great and it provides more coverage to the core area than many of the other jackets we've tried. The quality is outstanding but it does cost a little more. The overall fit and function (most important) was beyond my expectations. With the elastic adjustment straps, the jacket around the core area is snug enough to keep the warmth in and snow/cold out without ever being restricting. Now with the coat comes out, she knows it is play time. Annie awards it the coveted 4-bone rating.

Spendy, but worth it. The quality of this coat is excellent. The medium size fits our 50lb short haired random breed beast perfectly (we've found that some other Ruff Wear items - like the packs - run large). It keeps him warm and dry even on the wettest days here in the Pacific Northwest, and allows complete freedom of movement for running, jumping, and general mayhem. Plus, it's easy to get on and off. The only issue we've found is that sometimes the fleece generates a little static electricity.

I like everything about this jacket. It is smartly designed, performs great, looks good, is easy to don/doff and can be place on top of my dog's house coat for added warmth outdoors. Wears like iron. I know my Doberman likes to wear it: it means there's an adventure coming up!

It's an excellent dog coat especially for waterproof and it's very easy to adjust and remove. It's very appreciated by Nerone that wears k-9 overcoat during the frequently daily outdoor walks in this rainy autumn,early in the morning and late in the evening. Well-designed. Good quality.

Great looking jackets better than all the "stuff" I've seen at other places. These are really jackets not "foofy" doggie clothes. The outer nylon shell is very nice with the reflective piping. The fleece lining is very warm and the adjustable straps are very handy.
Anonymous - 2009-02-03Great item- a little sizing snafu
I ordered this coat for my pooch after an attempt to go for a run on a 6 degree morning here in Upstate New York. She was psyched to run but not so psyched on the cold, but she was a trooper. I saw this and thought it would be perfect. Bonus that its made from recycled materials. It seems to be an nice little extra coat for her and I thin its designed very well except for maybe the sizing. She's 44 pounds and somewhere in between the small and the medium size. Ruffwear's website suggested ordering the next size up for more coverage in this case. However, the medium is so big that instead of draping nicely over her little backside, just above her tail, the coat sort of flaps out, funnelling cold air underneath. We're going to try a small and see if that doesn't work a little better...

I would highly recommend the coat for outdoor doggies in freezing climates, however the sizing was definitely off... I would recommend ordering a size larger, luckily my neighbor is a seamstress and was able to add material to fix the two coats I bought for my two large dogs.
