Ruff Wear Palisades Backpack II (Small) (Fall 2007)
No matter how much you pay for kennel fees, your best pal really wants to be at your side. Ruff Wear's Palisades Pack™ II gives your dog the ability to carry his or her belongings with you on the trail. Beneath the low-profile elliptical pannier design is an internal compression strap system that keeps heavy stuff high for snag- and drag-free mobility. The pack is built over Ruff Wear's new Web Master™ harness and connected by Delrin hardware so you can unclip the pack from the harness during water crossings and rest stops. The hydration system is a huge plus that will free up the space and weight in your pack normally reserved for dog water.

I had a nice Outward Hound pack before, and it was well-made, but it always ended up severely off-balance no matter how I tried to load it. The Palisades pack seems much more stable, and it seems comfortable for my dog. Now he can carry his own darn food!

My dogs just love this backpack!
I have four Carolina dogs and they are now very happy and secure. My dogs have so much energy and are so strong that it used to take hours of walking to burn off the energy these little dynamos create! The harness can also be used without the packs, a very handy feature, and it makes it easy to attach the backpack to the dogs. The nice grab handle makes it easy to pick the dog up and over the rough terrain on the trails. I really don't understand what the problems the other reviewer is having, but for me, this item answers a whole list of prayers I had for aq doggie backpack.

I bought my lab and husky each a ruffwear palisades pack II and I absolutely love them. The only problem I found was the fit, but once I exchanged them for a smaller size everything was great.
I really enjoy the compression straps so their load can be secured and not hopping all over the place.
The water bladder keeps them cool, helps balance the pack load after foods been eaten, and is much more convenient compare to bottles.
It's durable, and you can take off the pack off the harness when the dogs tired.
And it can fit all of their food, bowl, pad, toy, leash, etc...
Lastly, I dont work for ruffwear, I just love their products.

i just recieved the palisades in the mail.i have 2 australian cattle dogs and one is very hyper.my dog trainer suggested to exercise the hyper one with the pack on.she doesnt like it much but will get use to it in time. l like the fact that the water blader can be filled as weights.its a bit hard to fill though.the mouth is small and the blader is thin.the design needs to be improved on.rather then having to unzip the pack,locate the spout and pull out the cap in order to pour the water,the spout should be either outside of the pack.overall it is a good concept.

I agree with "Waste of Money" above. Tested the pack on my dog on a backpacking trip. The panniers flap when the dog runs. Had a strap sewn onto the pack that went around the dog's belly to correct problem. Water bladders are hard to fill in the field. Had to fill them with my water bottle and there wasn't much room to fill in the bladder slot. The outside pouch that contains the load securing straps has an exposed zipper with no flap. It tore after a couple of days rubbing on rocks. The pack carries nice, but needs some work. To correct problems it should have a belly strap secured to pack, flaps to protect all zippers, and a better way to fill water bladders in the field.

This pack is a great idea until your dog wears it!!!The sides flop up and over either side making it a pain in the neck. The bladders are a neat idea but are somewhat difficult to fill. Your suppose to fill them without taking them out of the pouch which makes backcountry refilling a pain. If you filled them first, you wouldn't be able to get them back in. Stick to ruff wears leashes..they do a good job with them!!
