Roamer Dog Leash 4.8 5 27 27
Outstanding leash This is excellent for trail hiking. The hands-free aspect works perfectly - adjusts easily and securely to stay put around your waist. The "give" of the bungee (not just a thin elastic band) is just right and helps both man and beast maintain proper balance. With the secure buckle, both hand-hold loop mode and waist loop mode allow for quick and easy securing of leash with items from a tree trunk to a car door handle (- tie your boots without having to hold leash at the same time). Extremely well made of quality components. Only caveat is to be aware that a size L with a 20 pound or less dog is just too big - both functionally speaking and simply in terms of looking odd. So, even if you really want the extra reach the size L gives you, it is probably best to go with size S (and loose a bit of reach) if you have a small pooch. October 3, 2011
Great for Running I have a border collie puppy that I'm teaching to run along side me. This leash is perfect! I can strap this around my waist and the leash allows him to roam a little bit. September 9, 2011
awesome I got this leash a couple weeks ago to run with my dog -- I got the large size even though the pup is only 32 pounds, and while I was worried about it being a little heavy for her she doesn't seem to mind too much. She's too excited while running to care, and she doesn't get jerked around like she did on our handheld leash. The length is perfect for where we run. I was also worried about not being able to control her when needed if we pass other walkers, etc., but I don't find it too much trouble to grab the leash farther down and get a good enough grip. She's happy she's getting to run so much more often -- and hands free jogging is so much more enjoyable for me! February 11, 2011
Awesome leash for hiking with the dog! We have been looking for a durable leash that is ideal for taking our dog hiking in the mountains - THIS IS IT! The leash is very durable and can withstand scrapes on rocks. The large handle loop is adjustable and clips around your waist so you can go hands free, sip water along the way, grasp objects as you climb..., all without getting tugged by you little buddy. The built in bungee makes your hike an enjoyable one, because your dog know when he/she is getting near their limit as resistance builds. A great leash, at a great price! January 29, 2011
Great leash This is a great overall leash. I use it to run with my young dog who is still learning how to run on the leash. It is very comfortable! It is also easy to hook up to just about anything if the need arises. October 27, 2010
Great for hiking I really like this leash for hiking. Gives your dog the little extra to roam when you can't have them off leash. I wouldn't recommend this on the street since it is harder to control your dog from extending but great for elsewhere! October 23, 2010
Best Leash Ever Invented The hands free option of Walking your dog is great. You can run, ride a bike and walk with your dog and you have enough personal space. I have bought a similar leash from another company which was a little cheaper which broke, so the Roamer Leash is the way to go even though it might be a couple of extra bucks. It's worth the investment. October 20, 2010
Great for hiking Provides just the right amount of controlled exploration in the woods. Well made; lots of options for attachment and adjusting length. If you have an active dog, I recommend this highly. October 13, 2010
Great with dogs and a stroller! The leashes are perfect for walks with pups and grandchild in the stroller. Then my daughter uses them when she runs! Trying to balance a regular leash and the stroller cannot compare to the ease with the "Roamer"..I am sure the dogs feel the same!! August 20, 2010
Fit Perfect! This leash really work great! Hand free and it doesn't touch the ground so it won't get dirty. August 10, 2010
Great for Running & Hiking Our dogs took to these leashes pretty quickly and have done pretty well on the first few initial hikes we have done. The loop/handle by the clip makes correction easy and the bungee/elasticity of the leash won't allow the dogs to pull you like a regular leash would. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who want to take their dogs out and be hands-free!!! August 10, 2010
fantastic! The boingy nature of this leash allows us to tether our pup to ourselves and walk without worrying about stepping on the slack. Great to use when running or hiking with your dog! July 4, 2010
For hands free walking, this is a good choice I like this hands free leash because it has a loop near the collar to control your dog, when needed. I'm a big advocate of having my dog walk next to me - so the length of this leash is a little long, but I don't mind it. It helps when we stop and I let her walk and sniff. She can go to the full extent of the leash and I don't feel like I'm being dragged around. May 20, 2010
Best running leash I've tried a few leashes from other brands and this one has been the best of all. It's been really good at trail races where I must keep the dog running at my pace without applying any pull on her. The leash extends long enough to give the necessary freedom of movement. April 28, 2010
Awesome for running... ...or for any walk really. I put my leash trained dog on it so i have my hands free for the one that needs training. Unfortunately it's a little long if I add the coupler to run with both dogs. But still works. April 22, 2010
Great Leash I have 5 dogs and bought 3 of these leashes for the larger dogs. Its now much easier to walk/run while giving them a bit greater roaming capability. March 22, 2010
Great running leash The roamer has been great for both my dog and me while running. It provides a lot more control than the retractable leash. March 18, 2010
Nice concept, but doesn't work well for regular walks So, I bought this with the intention of trying to NOT use a retractable for my Beagle (he's a roamer). We live in the city and walk to the park daily, but this leash is ineffective for normal walks. Here are the pros and cons: Pros: decent quality, nice adjustable waist band (for runners and hikers), quick snap c-closure, and nice padded handle. Cons: can't get quick control (even with the traffic handle...I have to reach down since my dog is short and I am taller...my husband dislikes this leash and this aspect), elastic eventually gets stretched out and loose after few uses, and I have to pull for a while before my dog feels it, by then I'm choking him. I think that if you use this for what it was intended for (runners/hikers who usually take their dogs for this activity), then it's fine...but not recommended for average walks where you need to be able to control your dog quickly and efficiently. Love this leash This leash in a great alternative to retractable leashes, which can pose risks to both dog and human. It allows some roaming space but a lot more control. I have a small dog (28 lbs) but I got the large leash for the added length. He doesn't seem to mind the weight of it at all. I'm extremely happy with the quality of the leash as well, as I always have been with products from Ruff Wear. November 12, 2009
Excellent Leash for Hiking Trails My husband wanted this leash for walking our dog on hiking trails. He loves that he can buckle it around his waist and be hands free. The elastic allows our Mochi to wonder the trail without getting too far ahead. I wouldn't recommend for walking on the street or near traffic as the elastic also makes it difficult to control your pet in an emergency. October 5, 2009
THE BEST LEASH OUT THERE! This is the only leash I use for walking/running. I love it! I put it loose on my waist and it moves freely with my dog. You do need to be aware of the two sizes, I have the large but it is a little heavy for my 40 pound border collie.I will be ordering a small one as well and will give the larger one to my son's golden retriever. This leash is hard to find in stores and the quality of Ruff Wear is exceptional. September 16, 2009
Great Leash! Our little Aussie likes to sniff things out while on the trail. However, we don't like him to get to far away from us, so this leash is great. It allows the dog a chance to lead ahead without being to far away. July 21, 2009
Awesome leash! A great leash for active dogs and people! I buckle the leash around my waist and it's hands free hiking! I love it. May 5, 2009
Great for a former sled dog We discovered these leashes a few years ago and have never gone back. We are on our third roamer leash and are surprised more gear stores don't carry them. They are the best!! Especially for dogs like ours, a former sled dog, who will never learn to heel and loves pulling. We find it just as effective and much simpler than the marketed system for skijoring (which we also have but never use). We also use it for walks, runs, biking, and pulling our kids on sleds. Can't say enough good things about it. Thanks Ruff Wear! January 30, 2009
Great Handfree leash, We have two dogs that love to run and play. With the easy clip, you can clip one on your waist, and hold one in your hand, and have a hand free. With the bungee piece, helps the dogs from pulling, having some room to do their business. The handle is very comfortable. The leashes also hold up to weather very well. We have had one for 6 years and it still works, and I have it clip to the ponch to wash the dogs. August 30, 2008
Walk, jog or run with your hands free My dog likes his space and I like mine, so running is a challenge. When we can't run off leash in the woods back home, this clever and flexible leash gives him room to do his business sniffing and scratching without tripping me up. The bungee piece makes jolts when either of us stray too far less severe. If you are a walker, jogger or runner, this nifty leash lets you keep your hands free and let's your best friend have a fragment of freedom too. April 22, 2008
Great convenience. I use this with one or both dogs. The handle clip is great to tether one to a tree for a minute. Long enough to settle down, short enough to stay out of trouble. Easy clip and release. I also use the Roamer to walk both dogs with one clipped on the traditional end, and the other clipped on the handle end and the middle of the leash running behind my back. That way, I can do a bit of obedience, correcting one at a time which you can't do with a dual leash. The stretch feature is helping them learn when they are approaching the end of their acceptable distance from me. The handle is very comfortable as well. This is my third Roamer (the first two proved to be tasty puppy treats so this says nothing about their durability). April 12, 2008
