Great Product, but sizing is a trick
March 12, 2010
I recently ordered this harness for my paralyzed dog. I took measurements, and ordered accordingly. However, the attached back leg strap was too short for his body. Since it was not adjustable, I had to return the product. I would love to have back leg support, but it would be better if it were adjustable...the strap cover with small piece of cloth on the back leg strap looked cheap as well. It would be nicer if it were thicker fleece.

So far so good...

Just an initial review, I'll update after we get it out in the real world. Build is great, fit seems about right, so far just tried on, and lifted a few feet off ground off a branch. We expect to use this for canyoneering and as a "in case" measure for 4th class scrambling and or rappelling. SAR teams use similar harnesses for rappelling to victims or helicopter insertions. I expect as long as the fit is good for this to work for most people. However, unlike many SAR specific burrito type harnesses, this can be worn full time. Just put the leg loops back in the harness and it's a beefier Web Master. It's also a lot heavier and bulkier than the Web Master. As a note, if you only need to lift your dog up a few feet, or just want more control out of your dog without a collar, I don't recommend this over the Web Master. This has no quick release attachments, you must "double back" the harness webbing, and it's not super easy to put on or off (just a like a human climbing harness). The Web Master is designed for daily use on the trail. I've had that harness for 5 years, and it's been valuable for a quick assist of my dog when needed. As far as the review above, the rear leg loops aren't intended to be load bearing, more for stability/distribution of weight. . I'm not sure they need to be adjustable for most uses, although his sounds like slightly off label use which shouldn't really have an impact on most people who buy it to rap/canyoneer/haul there dog. Finally, as noted in the reviews above, it's slightly better than the Web Master for extracting an injured dog because it does distribute weight better, but it's not something you would carry around in your pack, or probably enjoy suiting a mobile dog up with each day when the Web Master goes on in a split second.

Double back harness

Good quality but hard to put on, takes some time to adjust to get a good fit...the attach handle is much too small for getting your hand into it if that is what your looking for, especially the small. Once on you can lift and seems to be comfortable for the dog, like the nice under belly part to this harness.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Cons: Cost, Bad design, larger handle, easier on / offLove it!!!!!

Great for disabled dogs
Not quite right for quick on-and-off use. Great quality though.

High quality material throughout but not what I needed. I think I picked a mismatch for my needs. I wanted a high quality harness to help lift my elderly dog up into my SUV. The lift strap was too short to get my hand into comfortably. The harness could use quick release clips to put on dog for short periods. Much too complicated to strap on for a quick lift. I loved the general quality so I may try a slightly different product - The NRS Dog CFD looks like a better choice for me.
Excellent Harness

My Standard Poodle was born with hip problems. She compensates well but we still need to have her wear a harness in order to help her in certain situations. We have tried several, including others by Ruff Wear. This is by far the best. It's very well constructed and has excellent adjust-ability options. The only suggestion I have would be concerning the rear straps, which are now permanently attached and stowed in a rear zipper compartment. I would rather have them removable. They are a little bulky and I'd like to just be able to put them on when needed.
