Description

It may look simple, but the Ruffwear Flat Out Dog Leash (Solid Colors) offers more surprises than a puppy left alone for five minutes. Don't be fooled by basic appearances-this leash does it all. A typical walk may start out with leash in hand, then swap from handheld to waist-worn as the run begins. Clip the leash around a hitching post to let everyone rest.

Flat Out Dog Leash works great, its strength and durability is unmatched. The leash clip is rust resistant and the handle is comfortable. I would recommend to all dog lovers.

Heavy duty dog leash
August 25, 2009

This leash is thicker and stronger than other leashes we've owned without being much heavier. Side-release buckle is not particularly secure. Overall, pleased with this product.

Better than most
April 05, 2011

It's a leash that lets you adjust it's length, clip it around your waist, or around a post. Pretty simple, but it could be easier to use. The adjustment of the length (and diameter of the waist loop) is, for lack of a better term, a little goofy. It takes a while to figure out just what is going on while you slide the ring, pull the slack, repeat. You'll get it, but you'll wish they had designed an easier way. Overall, the leash isn't going to fall apart anytime soon. In fact, I wonder why it has to be one inch webbing, 3/4 would've been fine. It looks so wide next to my dog... now I'm just being picky.

Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, Cons: difficulty in use

Love it! Best running leash!
July 21, 2011

After a lot of research I found this leash. I use it with a coupler to run both of my labs. Ruff Wear stuff is well made and this leash is no expection. I bought the updated version with the new clasp, but I actually prefer this clasp. Can't beat the price!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

Improvement over already good product
November 13, 2011

This is a great leash. Good length, and the buckle feature on the handle is very helpful when you need to quickly and unawkwardly attach your dog to a chair, pole, etc. We had this leash in its previous generation, which had a different, more typical clip. It worked fine until one day, it just randomly unclipped itself, leaving my dog totally unleashed on the side of the road. After it happened a second time, we called Ruff Wear to report the problem. They were great and exchanged our leash immediately for a different model. Now, with the new clip design in the Flat Out Leash, we decided to give it another go. The new clip seems to have worked out the problems we experienced with the old leash. It's great. I highly recommend it.

Pros: Great design

Great, nice-looking leash
November 27, 2009

the many functions are really nice. Like the fact that you can clip it around waist is nice. It is really long, so keep that in mind because when walking on sidewalk i have to wrap it around my wrist 5 times, which defeats the purpose of the padded handle. but all around, it was a good buy.

Love these
March 07, 2011

I have 4 dogs but since I walk them all together (or ride my bicycle) a regular 4 ft leash just wasn't long enough. So I bought one of these to try it out and I liked it so much I bought 3 more. Very functional.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

Great walking leash
February 26, 2011

This is a great walking leash for large dogs and for leash training. The traffic loop is especially useful for crowded areas or heel training and the adjustable loop is a unique feature we've not seen on any other leash. The quick release buckle allows you to attach the leash to a post when resting or running in for a quick cuppa, and the adjustable loop can be worn around the waist when jogging. Nylon mesh so it won't withstand steady chewing from a determined puppy but overall quality and wear is excellent.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, traffic loop, adjustable loop

Love It!
June 06, 2011

I would never run my dog without this leash again. I used to wrap my old leash around my arm to run but by the end of the run my shoulder would be tight from pulling on the leash. Now I just attach the flat out leash around my waist and off we go. No more pulling or tugging and our runs are much better.

Pros: Great design, Performance, Great value

The best leash option
June 16, 2011

I love this dog leash and I used it all the time for my two dogs! It's especially great when I take the dogs out running or hiking, as I can clip it around my waist and have my hands free. If I need to tie the dogs up somewhere it's so easy to just clip it around a tree or something. This is by far the best leash I have ever used and well worth the price. The quality is great but a puppy with sharp teeth can definitely do some damage to it given the chance.

Pros: Great design, Performance, Ease of use, very practical

June 30, 2011

I love this leash. My dog actually doesn't pull as much now and doesn't react to distractions as much. I think he realizes that he can't pull this leash out of my hand...I use this around my waist while I take my infant in the stroller and all three of us make a great team - quite the chick magnet I must say!

Great leash for dog owners on the go.
October 04, 2011

I love the way that this leash attaches to my dogs collar, it's really easy to use and I feel like it is a secure connection. I LOVE the way that the handle area has a clasp to tie your dog out somewhere if need be, but the part I love the most is that it is adjustable so you can use it around your waist. I love this feature when running with my dog, it provides a hands free experience for me and makes my run a little easier. Having the additional handle close to his collar is great for those times you need to keep your pet close. My german shepherd and I are very happy with this purchase!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use

We really loved these colors, they are so vibrant and when you have two american bulldogs, the durability of these is a super plus!! Awesome! The leash has the ability to shorten and lengthen depending on your personal preference. This leash is a great match with their flat collars. We will definitely purchase more of these products.

Ruffwear is Wonderful!
June 27, 2011

This leash is great! The length is perfect, especially for larger dogs (I have a english black lab), its easy to jog beside with the longer length, any shorter it may be difficult. This newer version has a better end "clasp" that is made out of metal and seems more durable than the versions prior. Overall the product is great and the company Ruffwear always does a nice job. Just one caution to the wise, I wish the loop clasp (which would go around the waste) was made of metal, as my dog likes to carry her leash when not in use and she bites it and cracks the plastic. Enjoy!

Pros: Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

So versatile - great dog leash!
May 19, 2010

This leash is great, especially when I need to use one end as a collar for my husky or to secure one end of the lead to my belt. You can use it hands free or use the comfortable handle. With my husky, this leash is just the correct length. I also like the strength of this lead - it is not wimpy! I plan to order another one to leave in my car for emergencies!!

Awesome leash!
September 17, 2010

I love this leash, both in functionality and durability. It is also very light weight. The buckle on the handle is very useful. It's very durable too. I usually drop the leashes while my dogs are wearing them so they can explore certain areas. These leashes are dragged through weeds, sandburs, dirt, mud, and whatever else is out there, and they haven't even frayed. My regular nylon leashes looked like they had been through a war and back after a few weeks of use. These things on months old and still look brand new. Great leashes! Well worth it!

Great lease for active people
January 11, 2012

There wasn't much not to like about this lease. It's durable, light weight, had a cool design, can adjust to fit around your waist, can be easily attached to any object, and has a loop to easily keep your dog close when needed. I only have two minor complaints... 1) I wish the designs were on both sides of the lease; and 2) I wish the handle could be made a little smaller (the padding limits the adjustment). Other than that, it's a fantastic lease. Good clip-on device too. I have two 50lbs dogs and it works great for them.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use

Clasp for attaching to posts, etc.
April 22, 2010

This leash is definitely sturdy, and I expect that it will hold up for a long time. The length is very good. It's long, but not so long that you lose control of the dog. The most convenient feature is that the handle end of the leash has a clip so that you can easily attach it to a chair leg or post or tree. Great for dining al fresco with the pooch at a restaurant, which we highly recommend.

Ruff Wear Flat Out Leash
May 09, 2011

I've been using the Flat Out Leashes for over six years now. They are almost perfect. The heavy duty webbing holds up to abuse without coming apart or folding in on itself. The grab handle near the clip is excellent for when my dogs get a little too wound up. The padded handle on the newer versions is very comfortable. My only main complaint, and one they have now addressed in the newest version, is the attachment clip. I've never been a fan of the type of clip this leash comes with. They do not have a solid, positive hold when closed. I've had dogs accidentally twist out of them. The solution is simple though. A couple of wraps of duct tape around the opening slot will keep the clip closed. A small price to pay for this leash in my opinion.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever

This is a super practical leash. We use it for running, hiking and normal day use. The versatility of being able to stretch it around your waist or quickly attach it around anything is great. It's very durable and also dries very quickly. We love Ruff wear products!

Best Leash By Far
October 03, 2010

This is my second leash of this type. I loved the first one so much that I had to get another one in black. The thing that makes this leash better than any other leash I have ever seen is the fact that you can unclip the handle. It is so convienent to clip around a bench leg while taking a rest or clipping around your waist to go hands free! I will never use any other type of leash. Ruff Wear please never discontinue this leash!

Great leash, like the new clip style better
June 08, 2011

The flat out leash is one of the best. I love the hand loop that adjust to be able to cinch around your waist. It's soft and rubs less than normal nylon leashes when trying to restrain a pulling dog. The loop at the neck is great for in traffic or for a dog that likes to try and chase cars. Only negative is that this leash still has the hold clip style and the new pinch clip on the more current models of this leash is much better.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever

The design of this leash is super cool. Being able to unclip the handle loop is surprisingly useful. Since I'm using at attached to a harness, it is safe to tie my dog (while supervised) to a picnic table, railing, fence or whatever when I need my hands free for a bit or will be sitting outside with him. The ability to adjust it to a waist-belt leash was good for hiking, he can charge full speed ahead and I can walk more normally not having to hold the leash. The negative on this would be if you are a larger person around the waist, it make may the leash too short to be very useful. The clip seems very sturdy and the leash itself is of a nice material that is soft on the hands. The padding inside the hand loop is a nice feature, but is lined with a thinner fabric (for comfort I assume) that managed to get a small rip in it already. since the loop is made to be hooked around trees, poles, etc, it is likely to wear out faster than if it was just being held in hand.

Pros: Great design, Ease of use, Great value, Cons: Wears quickly

Beat all around leash

This leash and it's extra features make it the best leash I own. The traffic handle is a nice extra. And the padded handle is comfy when he pulls me. The clip is great when I need to tie up my pooch for a quick stop. I own two!

Perfect leash
June 17, 2011

I use this leash for backpacking. The quick release handle makes it easy to attach to the waist of my pack, freeing up my hands for treking poles. It is also great for tying (without tying) the dog to the nearest tree when you can't keep an eye on him. Very high quality and affordable.

I know it seems like a slight difference from other leashes, but the padded handle makes for a great experience. Otherwise, solid materials and good stitching. Should last a long time like my other Ruffwear products.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Cons: Cost
