This jacket really is just what I was looking for. Though the temps don't drop drastically in So Cal, the AM can get chilly, especially for a dog with short hair so this jacket helps out for those runs we do in the cool mornings. Though he seems to need some time to adjust to running with it, it definitely seems to keep him warmer. And it's good quailty material and stitching so I'm content with the price I paid for it. The only problem was the size of the neck hole is a little small for him, but it will be an easy fix.Pros: Build quality

This coat is awesome. I purchased two, one for each of my dogs. I originally got the S for my Border Collie mix, and a L for my Boxer, as those are the sizes they have for the rain coat and swamp coolers. The S fit my BC perfectly, but the L was inexplicably large on my Boxer. We exchanged it for a M (super quick, painless exchange), and the M is a great fit! So... take note of sizing, and perhaps size down if you're on the fence. As for performance... the dogs love their coats. Perfect for a cold day, or even when there's light drizzle (but not enough to warrant the rain coat), and they can move freely in the coat. This coat has been a big hit on our walks - not only are the pups nice and warm, but they get compliments and attention left and right. Oh, and I love that the coat's outer shell doesn't catch on anything... and the fleece that is so prone to showing dog hair and lint and whatnot, is on the inside... dogs are comfy, and they look stylish. Win-win!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, stylish

My wife and I needed a durable winter coat for our short-haired dog. She's very active and the cheap jacket we bought from a pet store chain looked like it wouldn't last a day. We were really pleased with the Utility Jacket. It seems to fit her well and is sturdy enough to keep up with her rough-housing with other dogs. It also has a thin fleece layer underneath that helps to keep her warm on chilly New England mornings.Pros: Build quality, Performance

Very well made and stylish. My dog is a 18 pound JRT mix. Her back measures approx. 14". She wears the X-Small. I was concerned that the neck size isn't communicated very well on the site. Luckily it fit over her head. It is light weight and her harness fits easily over the jacket. It also helps that the jacket covers her chest, and partially under her belly. I feel it will be great when the snow gets a bit high and she needs to plow through it. Overall, very happy with the jacket.

I have a newfie and this is perfect for him. Just a little extra warmth and it keeps the snow from balling up on his tummy while out cross country skiing with me :)Pros: Build quality, Ease of use, Performance

I have a Brittany Spaniel and it's sometimes a challenge to fit him - I have a number of Ruff Wear items and he's a small in some items and a medium in others. This coat gives the adjustability I need for a dog built like him - broad chest and very small waist. The quality seems top notch like all Ruff Wear things I own and I like the soft fleece liner. Haven't used in incliement weather yet, but I know he's staying warm at a winter campsite and on the trail during a cold hike.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, Great value

Durable, but small head hole.

I recently was in the market for a warming lay for my pit bull who occasionally gets a bit chilly. I ordered both this jacket and the Ruffwear Climate Change. This jacket had a much more durable exterior, it appeared to be similar to a cotton twill while having a gray fleece interior. The Climate Changer was all fleece, but appeared to be a heavier weight fleece. I like the K9 Overcoat more for its durability and unrestricted leg openings, however the neck was a little too snug around my dogs neck when she was laying down. Had the neck fit a little better, I would have surely gone with this coat, however I ended up going with the Climate Changer which my dog seems to enjoy quite a bit more. Either way, Ruffwear makes great products and Altrecs return policy and customer service cannot be beat. For reference my dog is a 3 year old female pit bull weighing in around 55 pounds and a small was just shy of a perfect fit. The small Climate Changer fit perfectly.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
Coat for my Pointer
November 30, 2012
I bought this coat in a Medium specifically for my English Pointer - a very fit, lean 55 lbs. The fit is perfect, maybe a touch long in the back for him and it is exactly what I was looking for. He spends a good bit of time every morning out in the fields, woods, etc. - important that it fit well, is comfortable and that it doesn't pick up all of the stuff he's out in when he's looking for birds. This coat fit the bill without exception. I put it on my German Shorthaired Pointer this morning - a tall, rangy girl - very different build from my boy and it fit her very well. Coats never stay on her because of all she goes through but this one did. I will now absolutely order her one too. Highly recommend it for the active breed dogs.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
