Perfect little leash
January 13, 2012

I love the soft grip handle on this leash. Its comfortable even when Jack tugs. I also really like that it has reflective threads built into the rope leash material for extra visibility at night. All in all its another great product from Ruff wear. I would love if they offered it in a traffic leash (shorter) version!

Best leash ever
May 07, 2012

I highly recommend the knot a leash for dogs. I have tried every leash possible and the clip on all of them opened while walking my border collie mix. He is very strong and when he wants to run, the other leash clips would open and he'd take off running. This was very stressful as I was worried about him getting hit by a car. Thankfully I found the "knot a leash" product and have been the happiest customer! It locks in and gives me the security I need with the dependable lock clip to walk my dog comfortably without worry of the clip opening. Additionally, the cord for the leash is very durable and the loop for the wrist handle is extremely comfortable. I recommend this leash for everyone wanting to ensure your best friend doesn't get off his leash.

Very Very Good Leash
February 06, 2012

I really really like this leash. Not, only is it a great looking piece of kit, and very functional. The climbing rope (it's also reflective) it uses is so fantastic. It has just ever so much give in it (remember this is a climbing rope). Making it good for you and your dog. No longer, are your to be jerked around. It's kinda like adding a suspension fork to your mountain bike giving you that extra cushion of comfort. This rope is definitely not for training a dog and I don't believe it was designed for that, due to its give, but for a trained dog you can't go wrong with this. The locking carabiner is also key to the design of this leash. Got a problem with your dog getting off your leash? Not with this. It's not only very secure and strong it's also light weight and looks really good. I bought one of these for my doberman. It's the black leash and looks good with any color IMO.

Great Leash!
October 14, 2011

This is our second Knot-A-Leash purchased as our first was unfortunately lost by our doggie daycare. We have a 100lb Rott/Lab mix who requires a heavy duty leash, and this one could not be better. Would recommend this leash to anyone regardless of their dog's size or strength, however, as it is so well made.

Best leash I've ever used
March 31, 2011

I have a very high energy shiba inu that loves to pull on his leash when he sees something he wants, like a leaf blowing in the wind. The standard clasp leashes weren't enough, and he had figured out if he twists and then jumps forward, the clasp would snap off his harness. I searched everywhere for a locking clasp leash and decided on the Ruffwear Knot-A-Leash. Here's my pros and cons for the larger version, as this is now the second one I've purchased from Ruffwear: Pros: -Locking clasp is easy to open and close to put on and take off the leash. -Very bright reflective wrapping on the rope part of the leash makes it easy for others to see my dog when we're walking. -Comfortable wrist strap (This is a huge plus. Some leashes are uncomfortable on my wrist if he pulls too hard, but this one is great!) -Loop under the wrist strap, perfect for attaching a dog-cleanup bag carrier of your choice Cons: -Reflective wrapping wears off over time, which is the primary reason I have decided to purchase a new leash. -Rope could start to fray if you let your dog chew on the leash. This has not been an issue, but could become one over an extended period of time. -Rubber piece to stop the clasp from moving around eventually fell off (not a big deal, works fine without it) -No swivel clasp, so you need to untangle the leash once in awhile (minor inconvenience) I gave this leash 4/5 durability only because the reflective wrapping wore off over time and the small rubber piece on the clasp came off. Minor negatives for such a GREAT leash. I will definitely be purchasing another one in the future when this one wears out. Also, the leash did last over a year and a half through all types of weather before we replaced it, and if I didn't want to get a new one with reflective wrapping I could have kept using the old leash. I walk my dog several times a day and it held up very well. I would recommend this leash to anyone looking for a great, well-constructed and durable leash for their energetic pets!

Comfortable and Durable
May 24, 2012

This is by far most comfortable and durable leash I've ever used. I have two big strong dogs. They can pull pretty hard when those squirrels pass by... Thanks to padded handle and extra secure locking carabiner, everyday walk has become pleasant. Just be sure the carabiner is securely hooked to the collar. If the lock is in the locking position BEFORE you hook it to the collar, it can actually cause the carabiner not to close fully. Also, the carabiner is heavy and may not be appropriate to smaller dogs.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, comfortable on hand

Great leash for bigger dogs
September 16, 2011

If you have a lab-type dog, this leash is a winner. First, our dog is a chewer and this is the one leash that she hasn't been able to chew through. It's very durable! Second, it's strong enough to withstand her pulling. I wish that the carabiner connection had a swivel feature, but other than that, it's the perfect leash!

Great leash
October 10, 2011

I was coveting this leash for a while and I finally purchased it when I got a coupon. The main reason I wanted it was because of its 360 reflectivity. I mostly run at night with a black dog so I wanted a leash that would make us more obvious. This leash is great! I love the sturdy clasp and the extra give the dynamic rope provides. It gives my dog a nice reminder that he has reached his limit without killing my arm or throwing my balance. Overall, a good, solid purchase.

Very "handle-friendly" leash for a strong dog!
April 20, 2011

I have a pitbull puppy who is only one year old and although she's gotten much better she pulls like she's in a competition. My other leashes were all cutting into my hands and this one has a padded handle and the actual leash is round rather than flat like my others. Much more comfortable to hold on to. I am so happy I found this leash! My hands thank you!

Knot a Leash - the best!
November 09, 2011

I ordered two Knot a Leash for my Goldern Retrievers. The large handle/opening is a practical size for moving my hand through wearing a glove or mitten - creating an efficient manuever - a must for winter dog-walking! Using the leashes - two a at time - is made easy by the climbing rope construction: a natural fit for handling. The carabiner attaches easily to collars and closes securely for a safe walking experience. Leashes are strong and lightweight.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, Great value

November 22, 2011

I’ve been using this leash for a couple of weeks now with my Cattle Dog. It is comfortable in the hand and easy to wear over the shoulder when letting my girl off leash. The carabiner and leash feel fairly sturdy, though my girl is not very rough on leashes. Overall I’m very happy with this product.

I love this leash! I use one with my German Shepherd during runs, hikes, and just normal walks. The rope is extremely strong and works great while hiking, allowing me to pull my dog over rocks when necessary (I also use a Ruff Wear Harness). The handle is extremely comfortable, and the reflective fibers are great for night walks. The only reason I rated "Durability" as a 4 is because my dog chewed through our first Knot-a-Leash in about 5 minutes. I've had/have the blue, green, and black leash- the blue is by far my favorite!

Knot-a-Leash for Dogs
July 25, 2011

I have been using this leash for about a month. I keep it attached to her harness which she wears for all walks. The loop is super comfortable around your wrist. It works well with the harness. My dog is approx. 60 pounds and we got the larger leash but probably the smaller gauge would have been fine as well for her. I love the threads of reflector material for walking in the early morning.

Pros: Build quality, Performance, Ease of use

Love the Leash
April 29, 2009

Perfect leash for my 90-lb doggie. The best part is the redesigned carabiner. Very sturdy and does not come open as I have had happen with another similar leash. You can hook your hand/wrist through the handle so there is a greater sense of security. I have the red, green and blue in size large. Hope Ruff Wear extends their color range (orange, purple, green).

Nice leash
November 07, 2011

We have 2 labs and they quickly wear out other leashes. They chew on the leather ones and the really thick ones are too stiff. These are just right. They are very pliable and soft, not stiff. The only problem is if they get wet. They take awhile to dry compared to some nylon ones.

Great Leash !
May 09, 2012

I have the large that I connect to a coupler and use when hiking with my two huskies. The 5' length is perfect on trail and the locking carabiner provides the most secure connection to the coupler I have ever used. The thick rope does not bind easily especially as my dogs twist around each other as we hike. The reflective material woven in the rope is an added bounus. It has a good hand loop that is comfortable when wrapped around your wrist. Overall best leash I have ever owned.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance

LOVE this leash!
November 12, 2011

I had purchased one of these at a mountaineering shop in Glenwood Springs about 5 years ago and have used it extensively with my Great Dane/St Bernard cross. The leash is so light weight and durable that I even use it to hang my bear-bag at night when I'm backpacking! I just got another St Dane puppy and loved this leash so much that I had to get one for the new boy. The older one is still in immaculate condition, despite being drug up mountains, through streams, tied to trees and having bears bat at the bag dangling from it. Oh, and it's light weight enough that I've even used it with my Pomeranian, so it's not just for big dogs.

Life Saver
December 28, 2011

My dog has always loved to roll around in the grass and lie flat on her chest moving like crazy to scratch her body. Recently, she was able to unhook her leash from the collar twice by doing this. And of course she is my one dog that takes off and does not listen and respond to come. After those scares, I started walking her with two leashes until I was able to find a leash that will not easily come off with the right wiggle. When I found this online, I knew immediately that it was a life saver. The minute I got and tried it, I was beyond thrilled that I won't have to worry about my baby getting away and in trouble or hurt. I love it and would recommend it to everyone!!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Great value

Strong Leash
July 28, 2010

The Ruff Wear Knot A Leash is a REALLY well made leash. I was impressed with how sturdy the clip and handle were even after my dog started chewing on the connectors LOL. My American Bulldog is a strong puller and the leash allows me to keep control of him on walks. I also got the Ruff Wear Portage life jacket, and that too shows the same quality in its manufacturing and fit!!

SO far this leash has been awesome. I love the ability for the leash to stretch a little bit just so my boxer doesn't wank me to hard. Also the single reflective stand is awesome because i live in a populated area so it helps cars see my pup.

Great leash for larger dogs!
February 22, 2010

PROS: As an owner of a 130lb Bernese Mountain Dog puppy (only 13 months), I am really enjoying our new Ruff Wear Knot-a-Leash. My dog pulls on his leash very hard when he sees another dog. At his size and weight, he is obviously quite strong, and this leash doesn't hurt my hand like our previous leash. I have not used a more comfortable leash ever. Kudos to Ruff Wear! CONS: At 5 feet, this leash is a bit shorter than our previous leashes. Also the Red Currant color is a bit lighter than I would like. SUMMARY: This leash is wonderful, especially if you have a large dog than can walk you. Very comfortable!

light but sturdy

not my 1st "knot-a-leash" and won't be my last
October 25, 2012

Repeat buy for me, I first purchased one eight years ago and would not think of buying any other leash. Its super comfortable in the hand and very durable, mine get tons of use. My two labs and I walk 2.5-6 miles a day in the city and these make it a pleasure, also have had many compliments. They also work great when going hiking on trails when I can let the dogs off, I just clip the hand loops into the carabiners and then attach them to my pack for super easy access just in case I have to restrain the pups.

Great Leash
January 18, 2011

My girlfriend and I had been looking for a leash to take our dog on hikes and I think we found it with this leash. The handle is by far the most comfortable we've found. Our 75 pound German Shepherd is a puller and the carbiner clip held its own during our first hike. I'd by this leash again if we were to misplace this one.

perfect leash
April 04, 2011

It's light, strong, and ergonomically designed. At first I thought the use of a carabiner instead of a standard clip was a bit over the top. I was wrong: because the carabiner alloy is light, it's surprisingly functional and comfortable for the dogs. Furthermore, I can attach the leash with gloves - a real advantage in the northeast. We have a 40 lb border collie and a 35 lb (and rapidly growing) lab pup - the Knot-a-Leash works well for both of them.

March 24, 2011

I have two Labradors and walk them daily. They are active, to say the least, and pull a lot. This leash has a very comfortable loop handle that is easy to grip and feels good on my wrist. The strong, rope body is great and I like the security of the carabiner connector. If you need a leash that is strong, good looking and comfortable, this one is worth the investment.

This leash is strong and well-built for my 55 lb dog. The carabineer seems too large and bulky but it's strong. The leash twists up often because there is no swivel attachment for the carabineer unfortunately. The reflectiveness of the leash is great for walking at night. If the length of the leash needs to be reduced to pull my dog back, it's difficult to wrap the rope around my hand (compared with a flat leash). This rope leash has a unique and stylish design compared to others and it is strong; however, for my next leash in the future, I would try another one.

Great leash, comfortable to hold and tough
June 06, 2010

The handle is very comfortable and the leash seems very tough. I feel more comfortable using this leash when hiking along an exposed trail. The locking biner also adds to the security and the reflective stitching in the rope sheath is a nice touch - it adds some safety when walking at night, it's clearly visible by oncoming cars. There is one thing that I would change, however, there is no swivel - so as my dog sniffs one side of the trail, back to the other sometimes ahead of me, at my side then behind me...the knot gets kinked up pretty good. I know it'd add alot to the cost, but I'd pay to get the security and comfort of this leash minus having to unkink it while we hike

The Best Leash Ever!
December 30, 2008

This leash (climbing rope) is very comfortable to hold onto and gives the handler confidence that no matter how hard a dog may pull, the leash (rope) will hold. The small locking binder is a nice touch and much better that the normal leash snap-to-collar device. Ruff Wear has designed and produced the finest leash!

Best Leash Ever
April 14, 2011

I purchased this leash as a replacement for a leash of a similar style (different company) that was not holding up very well, and this one exceeded my expectations for a leash by far. My three favorite elements of this leash are: 1. The ultra comfortable, but durable handle. My dog hasn't learned to walk with a loose leash yet, so this is key for me. 2. The reflective trim woven into the leash. This is nice for walks at dusk or in the dark. 3. The carabiner clip. This isn't necessary for me, but I do like how secure it is. And the carabiner does look super cool. This is another winner for Ruff Wear.

LOVE THIS!!
May 23, 2011

We had a few problems with leashes that we had bought before, they were hard to hold with our pulling dog and sometimes our dog got off the leash. Once when we were on vacation and she got injured. I knew after that we needed a leash that locked. Finally I found this leash. It's easy to hold (no more blisters) and the carabiner locks, so our dog isn't going anywhere!! I would definitely recommend if you have an high energy dog like ours! We've only had it for over a week but it seems to be holding up well!
