Great collar in combination with Flat-Out Leash
October 17, 2011
This collar in combination with the Ruffwear leash makes going out for walk much simpler. we have a 6 month old puppy who loves to go outside, but really didnt like the amount of time it used to take to get her hooked in to the leash. With this collar and the tab that stays up, prep time for walking is at a minimum.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great valueHigh Quality Collar for the Adventurous Dog!

I've been hiking with my dog constantly for well over a year now, and he is quite the hiker. Doing up to 20 miles at the time with me, through some 8,000+ elevation gain, all in a day. So it was just natural that over time, I started looking for some hiking gear that he can use so as to make his trips more enjoyable, safer, and easier for me to take care of him. After getting a few other item from Ruff Wear (a backpack, booties, leashes) I decided to upgrade his cheap-O pet shop collar, which was showing some really bad wear. This collar is great! Is a huge improvement over his previous one. The quality is in part with most of his other Ruff Wear items, with high tension nylon and strong, yet light, aluminum hardware. The collar has a simple, yet effective reflective line that shines bright at night when you point a light it. This has been quite useful at night, when we are walking and hiking in the dark; giving me peace of mind knowing I can see him well even in low light conditions. Even when he is not wearing his pack or harness, the collar allows you to see your dog well at night. (side note: this might be less useful if your dog has a really thick coat which covers the collar). The other really nice aspect of this collar, is the front buckles. Which is pretty heavy for a buckle its size. this is a good thing, since it will keep the buckle down, and the clip for the leash high up, so it's easy to clip it to your dog when you need it. And to top it off, the little rubber tab that comes with it, does exactly what it is meant for. Which is to quiet down that constant rattle you get from your dog's tags against the metal ring of the collar. If you prefer been able to hear your dog coming, you can simply remove it. The only small issue I've had has been with sizing. I've had to guess a few times with Ruff Wear's gear before, not always sure which size my dog is. This time I went with a size "large", which end up been a bit too large. Once adjusted to the smallest it can be, the "large" fits him fine. But I think I could have gone with a "medium". So just keep that in mind when ordering, and and make sure to measure your dog well. Ruff Wear recommends that if your dog is "in between sizes", that you go with the lower size. Also, I know the collar is a bit expensive (cost me 3 times more than his previous one). But knowing it's high quality, and that it will last him for years, unlike his previous collar that lasted less than a year, I am more than o.k. to pay for it.

I love this collar. Very outdorsy but cute too (purple)...excellent quality. I love the buckle hard-wear. I got the x-small. It fits my medium to small size dog perfectly. The material is thinner than I expected, but it appears to be very strong, and is holding up well. Water doesn't seem to bother it either.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, Cons: CostGreat looking collar!

Had the collar on my dog for a few weeks now. It looks great especially in the red. The metal buckle is alot more rugged than the flimsy plastic ones. The only drawback in my opinion is that the material that the collar is made from seems to be a bit flimsy, could use a little thicker material. But so far its been working and looking great!
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, stylish, Cons: material could be a little thickerbeautifully made, had to return

I got this collar for my 75lb boxer/pit mix. The collar and especially the metal buckle are gorgeous. After a couple of days of wear, however, i started to see red marks on her neck from the edges of the buckle. I use a harness when we run so the collar was fitted relatively loose. The pinching would occur when she would lay down. I returned it for the hoopie with the plastic buckle and it has worked out great.
Pros: Build quality, aesthetics, Cons: Bad designAwesome Collar

I have purchased MANY collars for my Malamute X but our younger dog decided they were tasty treats! So far the Ruffwear collar with a metal buckle has not been eaten! It is the only collar I found with fast on METAL buckle that is nice looking for my lovely lady. Stays put and looks good too. Well worth the money so far!

Great collar. The leash clip is great and the buckle latching system is very convenient and quick to get the collar on and off. Wish it came in more colors butt the nylon webbing construction is thin and light.
Pros: Great design, Ease of useTop quality dog collar available.

RuffWear always makes top quality gear for my hiking dog and this is no exception. The metal buckle looks great and keeps the leash attachment always on the back of my dogs neck for easy access. I also really love how there is a separate place for her tags to go. Great quality construction with high grade reflective material. Love it.

This collar works great. I love that it has two rings one for the leash and one for the tags. The design of the buckle is great also. Easy to use and stays under his neck. This makes finding the leash ring easy every time.

This collar was a little different than I expected. I got the purple one and it is beautiful. I am just a little concerned about the clasp. It is wider than I imagined and it seems as though it would be uncomfortable to wear. My girl is a boxer/pit so she's a tough girl and never complains but it just seems to me that it can't be comfortable. It is also not easy to put on and take off. The clasp is hard to operate. I was also surprised to see that it will still spin around somewhat even though it is not loose around her neck. It is still easier to get her leash on her than with any other collar though. Lastly, it is also thinner than I thought it would be. I assumed it would be similar to the Hoopie collar. I love Ruff Wear products but I'm just not sure about this one. :(

My dog broke a half-metal buckle in the past, so we saw this collar advertised on facebook and wanted to try it. It's great. this collar doesn't slip in size, and the leash latch always stays at the top of his neck. The quieting mechanism for the tags works well, almost too well since we can't hear him barreling down the hallway anymore. The cloth material feels thinner than other collars, but I think it feels secure enough that I don't worry about it. For a few extra bucks, It was worth it to me to have a very secure collar that won't break when my 80 lbs Golden Retriever thinks he can catch a squirrel...when will he ever learn!
