Salomon K XW Fury Skis (Protrak) w/ Z12 B90 Bindings:
At one time in the not-so-distant past some skiers (and even ski manufacturers) assumed that if an expert ski went fast, it was good enough--because great advanced and expert skiers should be able to turn anything anywhere with complete control. Thankfully the ski designers at
Salomon had other ideas when they designed their "quiver of one" XW Fury with integrated Z12 ski bindings. It's breathtakingly fast and carves incredibly well, but it also offers an array of skier-friendly features that help you easily initiate turns with less chatter and unsettling vibrations. Compared to the other all-mountain skis offered by Salomon this season, the XW Fury features the widest waist for slightly better performance in softer snow than the balanced Salomon XW Tornado and XW Storm skis. This season Salomon revised the sidecut and tightened the turn radius, so the XW Fury has a narrower tip and a wider tail, resulting in a shorter turn radius that you'll immediately notice (we're talking shorter by a couple of meters here). Salomon's X-Wing line combines their X-oversized sidecuts for carving with a wide body chassis made for various degrees of all-terrain conditions, but Salomon added extra refinements to eliminate design compromises. One of these innovations is an Oversized Pulse Pad--a distinct elastomer layer that runs along the edges for better shock absorption on ice and hardpack. The Oversized Pulse Pad also neutralizes vibrations at speed, which gives you a bit more stability to take on those blue-iced, wind-scraped patches on your favorite (or most dreaded) double-diamond ski runs. Like seasons past, we paired this version of the X-Wing Fury with the proven Z12 B90 Binding. If quality is everything, Salomon's Z-concept bindings are at the top of the list with the best in construction and durable, lightweight components. It's an ideal match for the X-Wing Fury, especially if you're looking for top-shelf, all-mountain excellence.
