Thoughtfully and thoroughly engineered for adventure racing and endurance trail running, Salomon's GCS Pro running shoe gives off-road athletes an ideal balance between stability, comfort and impact protection. The low-slung technical design features a patented Running Contagrip™ sole with a spring-loaded Ground Control System for comfortably navigating alpine scree, eroded lava and other irregular and unyielding surface obstacles. This is a great adventure runner and jogging shoe. The Velcro pocket is convenient to hold my car key and emergency money. The quick tie/release Kevlar laces are brilliant, the mesh sides provide excellent ventilation and cooling. Most important the shock absorption and cushioning heels and sole provide excellent shock protection. Build quality is excellent and materials are tough. This is a brilliant shoe that retains it's shape and goods looks after thousands of Kms of running and is always comfortable. No blisters at all from my first run! This shoe is so good, I ordered it from the USA because I can no longer buy it in Australia. Why have Salomon killed this model off in Australia? The new models available in Australia are not as good. Brooks beast used to be my favorite jogger for years but it is no match for the Salomon GCS.

I bought these about 6 months ago, and feel I am finally ready to post a meaningful review. After 100's of miles on these, I love them. No blisters, excellent breathability, stability, etc. Please keep in mind - my feet are as flat as a 2x4. These are the only trail shoes I can run in, and run and run and run in...The real reason I am posting this message is because I am up there to buy another pair!

Great trail/adventure running shoe. Born and raised in Kirkland, Wa. and live in Texas now. GCS Pro makes me feel like I could run home! 475 miles to date. Great performer right out of the box. Fantastic stability means no more ankle rolls in serious terrain. Great ventilation, great lace system. Put my money where my mouth is and bought 2 pairs.

This is a great shoe but Salomon the company is tough to deal with. The sales guys all have an attitude like they are the best of the best. I skied with a Salomon sales dude out in Vail on a demo day and he was weak. You'd think they'd back up all that talk. With all this said, the products are pretty good. I'm giving these shoes three yellows because the sales guy in Vail was a total puss.

the best trail shoe I have found. My first pair I ran until there was nothing left of the sole... no tread and paper thin. I am on my 6th pair now, the GCS is doing quite well right out of the box with no problems. No blisters nor hot spots. The toe box has enough room to accommodate foot spread and swelling in the longer runs. In the summer I run at high altitude here in Colorado doing marathons and the Leadville 100.

These shoes are awesome. I am a fan of the Salomon trail shoes and these didn't let me down. I run rough trails...lots of rocks and these shoes handle it perfect. They are awesome on the down hills too. I highly recommend them to anyone into trail running.

These shoe fit right out of the box. They handled varied terrain exceptionally well. I noticed the difference compared to my other Salomon XA Pro shoes without the GCS technology (which I thought might be hype, but was glad that I was wrong).
I ran my usual trailwith these shoes and ran a PR by one minute even while carrying a full hydration pack on my waist which I wasn't carrying the last time I ran the same trail.
If you are looking for a good responsive and well cushioned shoe you won't go wrong with these.

The Saloman GCS Pro Trail Running Shoe is one of the better purchases I have made. I wear mine all day at work, where I'm on my feet and moving around alot, and have hiked and ran across flat and steep terrain to my delight. The traction is better than I could have imagined, downhills are much easier now. The ample mesh panels keep my feet cool for the summer weather and allow them to dry quickly, while still allowing for plenty of stability. The Quickfit lacing system is a dream and the cushioning is great, especially for someone with bad knees like myself. Highly recommend.

I'm very happy with these trail running shoes. I put in a little thicker insert to help cushion the feeling when landing on sharper rocks and that helped. I'm a big guy, 220lbs, so I would think this maybe just an issue for me.
I'm a true 11 D size and the 11 for these shoes fit just fine.
I have lot's of confidence when coming down steep downhills, the traction and control keeps me from sliding or rolling my ankle.
Overall great shoe...I like the quick lace system, I just hope it lasts. This is my first pair of shoes with this, but I broke one while trying them on at REI. I was told it must of been a defect in anufacturing.

So far, I've only had a couple of outings, but I'm impressed. Both trips have been a climb of the "Manitou Incline" (one mile long; 2,000 feet of altitude gain), followed by a three mile run down Barr Trail (the Pikes Peak ascent trail). The heal stability and its ability to conform to rocky, uneven terrain is excellent. Fit is good, although I suspect that folks with really wide feet might feel a bit cramped. Ventilation is excellent, thanks to the mesh side panels (kind of like wire mesh). Hopefully, they will age and wear well. So far, so good!

I've owned several pairs of Salomon shoes and these are the best I've used thus far. As I'm around 200lbs., I found the earlier models rolled very easily and didn't last very long. The GCS Pro has addressed that issue with a very stable yet comfortable shoe. The toe box is ample and the quick drying mesh on the sides are great! I would highly recommend these shoes.

The GCS Pro trail is one of the best trail shoes and becomes my favorite. It is very comfy right out of box and has solid supports overall around my feet, which I always like from the Salomon shoes. Also it has plenty of cushion, letting me run on the road. The look, way cool.

The GCS Pro is a comfortable, stable and well-cushioned running shoe. The design is somewhat stiffer than the XA Pro I had been using, but the GCS has a natural forefoot break thatprevents the shoes from feeling stiff while running. It fells quite stable and I expect it to perfrom well on steeper terrain, though I have not yet had the chance to test in on steep trails yet. The shoes was comfortable out of the box. It is heavier than the XA Pro and that's the slight negative I have noticed. Otherwise it's a great shoe.

I do a lot of trail running and have purchased a lot of different shoes- Salomon, Nike, New Balance, etc. Overall, I think these new Salomons are excellent; they are light with adequate heel cushioning which helps when running on rocks and roots. The traction seems decent as well. Also they are essentially open on the top (they have mesh uppers) which makes them good for summer running. The thing you sacrifice is protection for the upper half of your foot as well as some roll stability(which I think is overrated anyway). I recommend them over most of the other trail runners I've purchased.

First of all it took 9 days for me to get my shoes. Other online shoe retailers take 1-3 days max. So not happy about that. Their customer service was good promptly responding to my complaint, but way too long. Now for the shoe review. Great heel cushioning, fore foot cushioning very weak for a $130 pair...very dissapointed here. Toe box room is good, shoes were a little narrow causing pain. I measure out between a D and E. Good traction, lacing system is nice and easy. This was simply the wrong shoe for me will be returing.
Lorin Peterson - 2006-03-06Ok but not as good as the XA Pro II
I was disappointed in the shoe. The toe protection wrap is inadequate in loose rocks. Also, the lacing system is not as comfortable as the other Solomons. This shoe is more expensive and not nearly as good as the XA Pro II. I wish Solomon would bring back that shoe; its the best all-round train shoe I've ever used.
Ironmike - 2005-05-09Overdesigned and undertested
I've been a fan of Salomon trail running shoes for years. These were well anticipated, and turned out to be a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. There is NO cushioning in the front. The rear is cushy when landing from an angle, but rock hard down the middle. Worst of all, there is NO padding in the toebox, meaning it's a sloppy fit that can't be fixed. Got bad blisters and a bad skin tear in a race after 4 miles, and had to switch to other shoes. These are going back after just three wearings (less than 15 miles). It's the first time I've returned a pair of running shoes in over ten years. And all that for $120 bucks. Bad deal, Solomon.
