I have about 25 miles of use on my new boots and am ready to share a few comments about them. I read many reviews on the boots before ordering and was impressed by the high ratings owners gave them. That convinced me they weren't likely to be a disppointment and that I would probably be satisfied, too. I also wanted a stiffer soled boot than the Keen's (Targhee II mid) I was wearing (which I like a lot) for when I attach ice cleats. I can feel the cleats thru the thinner soles of the Targhees whereas I don't with the Salomon's. I also wanted a higher boot for winter activities and got it with this pair. They are overall a stiffer boot, but I'm not disappointed. Walking is very comfortable and as the reviews say, they have out-of-the-box comfort. As you can tell, so far I am very pleased with my purchase. I ordered a 9.5; fit feels true to size; I don't wear heavy socks because my feet don't require them for warmth and there is plenty of room in the toe-box. As others have noted, I did feel the lack of arch support with the factory orthotic, so I bought a pair of Superfeet and the boots do have an improved feel with them. I have both hiked and snowshoed with the boots and haven't had any issues with leakage, but none of these events pushed the limits to give them a difficult test. If they leak, I will return them, like I once had to do for a different product. If you buy waterproof, you deserve waterproof - no excuses. I opted for the grey versus rust/orange color, and am glad I did. The color makes for a nice looking boot.
Pros: good looking, comfortable, out-of-box readyBest boot ever!

I have jacked up feet from walking on concrete warehouse floors for 22 years. I am boot rich from trying to find the perfect pair of hiking boots and these are them!!! I bought a second pair in case they change or discontinue the boot.
Best hiking boot ever!

I wore these on the Inca trail and I have to say they were perfect. My feet stayed dry in the rain and never got tired. They are very supportive and light weight, exactly what's needed on the trail. The soles are grippy on wet rocks. Highly recommended!

Initially, I felt them a little bit rigid. The bridge of the foot and the ankle where the points of contact that acknowledge that feeling. But after a few days, they get more flexible with the use and everything goes as expected. Related with moisture inside, it will never come from the outside. But if you don´t use the appropiated socks you may create an environment inside the boot that the gore tex lining will not be able to evacuate entirelly. Most of all, when on mild weather. In addition to the great sole, wich provides a safe grip, I would say that this boot is highly suitable to a wide range of climate.
Pros: design, quality, great grip, Cons: noneWrite a review for the Salomon Quest 4D GTX Hiking Boot here.
Glad I bought these hikers

I've owned and worn hiking boots from A-Z over the last 30 years for both work and play. This is my first pair of Solomon. I'm happy to say that my latest purchase , so far, has worked out well. I know the importance of a well broken in boot and how it can make or break your day....let me tell you, I put these suckers on and climbed 3 ADK High Peaks- right out of the box. Comfort, support and lots of grip. The soles stuck to wet granite as if I were wearing cramp-on. Best part, at the end of the day 11 hours later, my dogs didn't hurt, cramp or stink! Well maybe a little.... stink. At 5'-10", 205 and pushing 50, I need/want the best for my feet, knees and back. I'm now trying to find the low-cut version of the boot for every day use. If Solomon can make this boot in an even LIGHTER version, I'll buy them today! Peace
Pros: confortable out of the box, altrec's great price, well thought out and constructed, sharpGreat boot - short life

This boot is suitable for low to medium volume feet with narrower heels and wider forefeet. However the toes box tapers sharply, so people with rounded toes may feel pinched on their pinky toes. Tightens very well over the instep and locks the heel in really well. I used this boot for a combination of backpacking and bushwacking for forestry services. The upper materials are very durable, and survived 4 months of daily bushwacking with minimal damage. Completely waterproof, never leaked after 4 months of intensive bush use. Breathed very well for a goretex boot. Quite supportive midsole initially, let me carry 50 lbs for 10 miles per day for 5 days without overly sore feet at the end of the day. Stood up to extensive bushwacking in rolling rocky hills. However, the midsole wore out too quickly for the price IMHO. Aftter 4 months of use, probably 250-300 miles, the boots no longer felt very cushioned and supportive. The upper also seemed to "shrink", and felt tighter in my toes afterwards. Overall I really liked the boot, but wish Salomon had used a polyurethane-based midsole for longevity. That would have made it a 5 star boot.
Pros: locks in heel, waterproof, quite breathabe, wider forefoot, durable upper, Cons: wears out quicklyPerfection

This was the second pair of Salomon's that I have bought. I would now call myself a loyal customer. These boots like my first pair of Salomon's was amazing right out of the box. They have kept my feet dry and warm while offering great ankle support. So far I have been doing outdoor work, warehouse work, urban hiking, and riding my bike in them in the rains of Portland, Oregon with no complaints. At the end of the month I will be heading to Alaska to the north end of Denali to live and work this summer which will be the true test of these so far amazing boots. If you are worried about your feet being cold, just add a pair of wool socks into the mix and you'll be all set. I personally love Dalhgren socks which are made from Alpaca wool and made in the USA (Oregon). While in the wool sock/boot combo my feet have never been cold or anything but super comfortable. This combo really is like walking on clouds inside a waterproof cocoon. There will be a second review of the boots coming once they hit the snow and muck of Alaska but again these are the best boots I have ever owned and well worth the money. You are in this case buying extreme comfort and quality!
Pros: very waterproof, great ankle support, sturdy, lightweight, comfortable even right out of the box, Cons: price.... but these boots are truly worth itSolid hiking boot

Like many of you, I was a bit overwhelmed by the choices of high-end hiking boots available. After a few months of research, I decided on the Salomon Quest 4D and I am thrilled. The fit is great right out of the box. What separated these boots from others in my opinion- was the versatility. The boots are incredibly light, can be used in numerous situations (shopping, snow, 100 mile hike) and so far they have outperformed my high expectations. Highly recommend!
Pros: great fit, waterproof, exceptional ankle support, Cons: none as of yetGreat Pair of Boots!

Have had these boots now for about 4 months and have put them through some serious muck. The first week with them I took them on a 17 mile trip in the White Mountains. I traveled through 7-8 inches of mud and never felt wet. They are super comfortable and my feet were never sore when I got to camp. I highly recommend them! I gave the boots fours stars for durability and quality because I have not owned these boots for more than a year. I think that if these boots last a good couple of seasons then the initial investment will have been worth it.
Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Cons: CostGreat Boots

Bottom line, I couldn't be happier. I've spent a lot of time in boots over the years and I've tried several different brands in this class of shoe, Asolo being the prominent exception. I took my new pair of Salomon Quest 4D GTX straight from the box to the hills for some light trekking and they did not disappoint. They strike a superb balance among my criteria of ankle support, sole cushion, and general comfort. Ankle support is very solid without restricting mobility too much. Sole cushioning is stiff enough to be comfortable walking across the sharp rock surfaces you find in the old lava flows around here, but still provide enough cushion so that you feet aren't hammered at the end of the day....Goldilocks would love them, they're "just right". General comfort is outstanding. My feet are regular width and I find many light hikers a little narrow, particularly when you're running with higher lace tension. The lacing system works as advertised to allow you to run with tighter/looser lacing tension above/below the lace lock according to your activity and preference. They run pretty true to size and they have a fairly roomy toe box. I may get around to trying another brand's offering someday, but that depends largely on the long-term durability of the Quests. If they hold up, I think I've found the best pair of light hiking boots I've ever owned. They are on the higher end of the price scale, but I feel very confident I'm going to get the value out of them.
Pros: value for price, ankle support, general comfort, lacing systemLove 'em

These are the most comfortable boots I've worn. I took them to Yellowstone for 5 days of hiking and sightseeing without breaking them in and they were more comfortable than my running shoes. They were a little hotter than the shoes I'm used to wearing but none of my other shoes/boots are waterproof so it's a fair trade. I've also worn these on 3-4 mile runs when it's cold and snowy and they work great in that capacity too. I hope they continue to make these because I'm planning on another pair if/when mine wear out.
Pros: very comfortable, Cons: can be pricey if not on saleSalomon Men's Quest 4D GTX Hiking Boot Photo
