Flying down the trail, as your feet seemingly never touch the ground, the Salomon Men's SpeedCross 2 is ultra light and so blazing fast that you just have to let them go. Amazingly, at a mere 11 ounces there is still plenty of performance beefiness, so you won't spin out. An anti-debris durable mesh upper is Sensifit wrapped in synthetic overlays to give a precise and secure fit. A Quicklace™ one pull lace system quickly customizes the closure, as the quick cinch tab tucks out of the way in its garage pocket. The dual density EVA midsole targets stabilization of the foot against stone or root roll over. The aggressive multi-density winter Contragrip outsole remains pliable and gripping even in cold conditions, to give you optimum traction as you blast over Tioga Pass. With a mudguard and protective toe bumper your feet are covered in the event they ever come back to earth.

First of all, these shoes run on the narrow side; but since my feet are narrow, I didn't have a problem with that. The SpeedCross 2's are very comfortable, they breathe really well, and they keep your feet dry. I've run through puddles, snow and slush and never got wet feet.
This was my first experience with the Salomon speed lace system, and I must say it would be hard for me to go back to normal laces. The Salomon lace system is quick and simple. The laces are made of kevlar and seem to be much stronger and more durable than normal laces.
For me, the tread on my off road shoes is very important, the more aggressive the better. You will not find a pair of shoes with more aggressive tread than these shoes. All in all these shoes are AWESOME!!! You will not be disappointed.

I bought a pair for racing when I get to WA but I have had a chance to wear them here in Iraq when it rains. The trails/roads become mired in mud but these shoes allow me to keep running outside. I Love 'em! If you are on the fence get off of it and Buy these shoes.

I only buy Salomon shoes for trail running; I have probably bought a dozen pairs in the last decade. These are light and tight-fitting, both good qualities. Like some of the other reviewers, I am not enthusiastic about the soft compound on the outside of the heels. It hasn't caused any problems, but feels like it might, and who needs extra worries. The shoes are warm, and they shed water. The speed lacing system is one reason I buy Salomons. And they look good. So far, I love the shoes.

Ok if your idea of trail running is on maintained trails then this is not the shoe for you. Salomon makes many shoes for this kinda running. If your idea of trail running is a sort of suicidal nature, look no further. This shoe will give you the kind of grip you will need for flying down switchbacks with boulders and rocks as you go. Get your size if you don't want the shoe ripped from your foot. It is made to fit snug so you don't lose it! As you run up trails the shoe yell's at you, "Faster Fatty!" making you feel like less of a man and out of shape. As you fly down trails at high speeds, eyes tearing up from the wind, useing all your senses to keep you from tripping off the next switchback, and in a quick moment of airborne silence the shoes wisper...........faster.......

Super light, near perfect traction, extremely comfortable for my narrow high arch size 11.5 foot.
Laces are great and fast. Only down side is if you repeatedly forget to tuck the laces in because you are in a hurry you will ruin them. Replacing them is a chore. This is my second pair of the shoes.

Just started trail running a few months ago. Thought I'd better gear up for the fall and winter. Couldn't have made a better choice than the Speed Cross 2! This shoe was comfortable out of the box. Super light weight, and yet plenty of side support for those rough spots on the trail and awesome traction! I've only known Salomon for their great ski equipment, but I believe they've got running figured out too! Currently, I've put only about 30 miles of relatively rough trail on the shoes and so far they're holding up like new. I would highly recommend the Speed Cross 2 for all trail running!

The most incredible shoe EVER. The construction is flawless. Lightning fast on trails, grass, pavement; the shoes grip any and all surfaces: hard-packed snow/ice, rocks, trees/roots, retaining walls...Without the added bulk of Gore-tex these shoes allow you to move fast even through deep snow; feet remain relatively warm despite minimalist design. The outer shell sheds the snow as you run through it as if coated with Teflon. Moisture wicking in summer, feet remain dry. A ninja could not ask for a better pair of shoes. Great over rock. Fit feet snugly, as close to an extension of your bare feet you can ask for, yet...Toes protected against bruising. Extremely durable...I abused them 8-10 hours a day, 5 days a week, in snow/rain/heat November-May before they needed replacement. These are the Alpha and Omega of shoes; there should be none before them or after them. I only hope Salomon continues to produce these shoes forever, changing nothing. They are PERFECT.

These shoes are not only the best looking/designed shoes I have ever had but their performance is great. They are so light and for what they are made for (trail running)you can't beat them.
They have so much tractions because of their sole design and they are so so comfortable you can run for miles no problem.

These are the best fitting shoe I have every worn. My foot feels secure in the shoe almost as if it were custom fit. All other shoes that I've used over the years had to be laced to tight to get a feel like this.

First of all, I never take a shoe to the trail without wearing them a few days around town to see if they are even comfortable to walk in. After a weekend of casual wear, I came to the conclusion that these are the most comfortable shoes that I have ever owned. Then, when I finally took these babies off road, the performance level immediately made me want to buy another pair. The lacing system is amazing, the tread design makes so much sense that I wondered why all companies don't infuse it into their shoes, they're super light weight compared to all other trail runners, and the support on my entire foot was second to none. It's a cool looking shoe, but that's not really a good reason to buy any piece of gear. I researched and tried on ALOT of other shoes before deciding to trust all the positive reviews I read about these shoes. I am so glad that I did. If these shoes are still available in your size, do not hesitate to pick up a pair. WELL worth the money. SEE MORE PLANET!

I wore the Salomon’s Speed Cross 2 only once, but I can state that they’re the best exercising shoes I ever had. The traction of these shoes is unbelievable! These are my third pair of Salomon shoes and I can say they’re second to none.

By far, these are the most comfortable cross country shoes I've ever worn. They have terrific traction on wet surfaces and fit extremely well. They feel like they are molded to my feet! They definately deserve all the praise they have gotten.

These have been nice trail runners so far. I got theme to run in the snow and ice here in the winter and have liked them so far. Had no problems with traction or durability. First off, Solomon shoes fit my feet perfectly. So take that into consideration. But I love these shoes. I'm a big fan of the lacing system. I'm always fiddling with the tightness of my shoes and the quick lace system makes easy to do even on the fly. The first time I wore them was at a European style cross country race. The trail was icy, hilly and covered with fresh snow. My footing was secure the whole race. I'm a slow runner but I was flying past people on the downhills. Everyone else was gingerly running down the hills while I had full confidence to go full speed. My feet stayed dry through out. These shoes are also great for snow hikes. Although you may want to wear gaiters if conditions are messy.

I have had these shoes for a week and by far the best I have owned. I run in the high desert of California and these are very comfortable shoes for the terrain without all the bulk of other brands of trail shoes.

I have had these shoes for a few weeks now and think they are one of the best ever. I am 6'2" 220lbs and hard on shoes. These are comfortable with tons of support and grip - no wonder outside voted them best off road 2007!

I've owned a couple of pairs of Salomon's before but this pair is by far the best. Great for running on snow and ice. Super light. Great support. Good water proofing. Can see enhanced wear is used on hard surfaces as the rubber tread is soft compared to other Salomon shoes.

I travel a lot, live in Alaska and was looking for a comfortable shoe I could wear in all conditions; on the trail, at my job (where its almost always wet), and around town. I don't have a lot of space in my bags for different pairs of shoes, but thankfully these work perfectly, are amazingly comfortable and super light. Couldn't be happier.

I recently decided to phase out my traditionally laced shoes because I hate tying my shoes. I then saw the speedcross 2's and decided to give them a try. I love 'em. They fit great, are a pair of my most comfortable shoes, and best of all no tying!
My only complaint is that they could improve the storage of the drawstring slack, currently there is a inverted pouch on the front of the tongue. This is a pain in the behind to get it all in there. Even so, I would recommend them to friends.

The dual density heel in these shoes made my feet feel unstable. I'm a neutral runner and weigh 180 lbs. When I wore these shoes, upon heel strike, my feet severely supinated while simply walking in them, so I'm certainly not willing to take the chance with them outdoors. This shoe may be good for those who overpronate - perhaps compensating for the inward rolling motion by placing a softer compound on the lateral side of the heel, slowing the rolling motion to the medial side? I'm not a shoe expert, so this is simply a guess. ***Please note: It may be unfair for me to rate this shoe a 3 because I would have rated it a 4 or 5 if not for the heel***

I have owned several pairs of Soloman shoes, and these are by far THE WORST. After only a few weeks of light trail running, the upper has completely ripped out on both shoes. The tread is sticky, the shoes are comfy, but the construction is definately subpar and did not live up to what I have come to expect from Soloman.
