Salomon Men's Threat Ski
While those plastic Nordic skis were cute for photos when your kids where still in diapers, most snow-savvy kids want real ski gear by the time they're pulling easy 360s off the jumps. Sadly, a lot of ski manufacturers do a better job of keeping it cute, not keeping it real. Kids who want to keep it real want real ski gear--stuff made with performance components in kid-friendly dimensions--like this Threat ski from Salomon. Carefully crafted for up-and-coming park and pipe performers, the Threat has advanced features like Salomon's "edgy monocoque" construction, a design element that helps transmit the power from a kid's boots and bindings to the ski edges for better grip on the snow. This improved grip not only helps facilitate easy turns, but it also can help reduce fatigue during extended family ski days. While Salomon's advanced adult skis have a wood core, the Threat ski has a proven composite fiber core that absorbs the vibrations and shock of unanticipated (or unseen) undulations in the snow. This change in the design won't hinder the performance of lighter skiers, but it will enhance the stability at speed, which is critical sometimes when a young rider has second thoughts on approaching a jump or berm. If you're looking for a performance binding for this ski, Salomon recommends their Z 12 Ti or STH 12 bindings. Keep in mind that the Z 12 Ti and STH 12 are not ordinary recreational bindings, but the Salomon Threat isn't an ordinary recreational ski.
