Very good for disc golf
March 06, 2012

I started to notice these shoes in Disc golf tournaments. There are 2 or 3 shoes out there that are ideal for the sport and these Salomons are the best choice. The are lite and fit like a glove. The lacing system is fantastic however more detail needs to be given to the consumer about the pocket built into the tongue where the laces go after tightening. Took me a day to figure it out. Also the toe of this model would benefit by being completely covered in rubber and not foam. I noticed on the first day that I had lost "chunks" of the softer foam where it meets the rubber at the front of the boot. I am watching now as the "chunk" area gets larger each time I wear the shoes. I am concerned that water will now be able to enter the boot at this point. All in all a very good product. I would give it a 4 out of 5.

Pros: lacing system and good looks
Cons: soft foam near toe degrades easily

Great Fit and function
November 26, 2011

I buy a new pair of Salomon boots every year. I wear them everyday for work in Winter time. They fit perfectly out of the box and I love the lace system. Its easy to tighten. My foot has a slight arch and is probably medium to narrow. I have never found a pair of boots or shoes that fits as well as Salomon. I normally take a few backcountry hiking trips a year. I either wear these boots or a low cut Salomon runner/hiker. The reason I don't give these boats a 5 star is durability. I have yet to own a pair that lasts past a year. However, I just can't find a mid boat that performs any better.

This is one cool shoe!
November 04, 2011

I had a decade-old Salomon hiking shoe that needed to be replaced, and this is the one that I chose. What I liked are: cool color combo, very well-built overall, a great sole, and the mid rise. What I did not like: Could be a bit wider at the toe area, and have more of an arch. I am able to get my orthotics in under the insole, which is great. I think these shoes should last for years, and they look great too. Reccommend.

High Quality Shoe With 1 Fatal Flaw
September 24, 2011

These high quality shoes are comfortable and they look great. After lots of searching for a mid-gtx shoe that's not a boot I thought these were finally the perfect blend of light weight and waterproof. But the Quicklace system turned out to be the fatal flaw for me. The first annoying thing is that the tab at the tongue of the shoe sticks straight out. Then when you tighten the laces even a little bit, the black plastic pull tab is on the end, and the excess lace is so long that the lace and the tab both go under the sole of the shoe. I tried sticking the excess lace under the other laces and down the side, but this only turned it from speed lace to slow lace - just too much messing around, and I was picturing all this with the shoes covered in mud and snow. The final fatal flaw is the issue of replacing the laces if/when they break or wear out. Hey Salomon, how about making these with an option for regular tie shoe laces - that would make them the best product out there!

Pros: high quality, waterproof, light weight, comfortable
Cons: quicklace system

Awesome shoes
September 04, 2011

These are some of the best looking lightweight mid running shoes on the market. Construction was solid and the lacing system was really neat too. They were a bit too narrow for my feet but I would highly recommend to anyone who does not have really wide feet.

great shoe
August 31, 2011

This is my first pair of Solomons. They are comfortable right off the bat, and fit great. I hike often in rough terrain, and the mid ankle style is good for added support and protection. Would recommend without hesitation.

Pros: comfort added support and protection
Cons: none

Great All Around Light Hiker but Pricey
July 29, 2011

SUMMARY --------------------- Great all around light hiker capable of handling a variety of terrains and distances. Pros: - Innovative lacing system effectively locks your foot in to the shoe and stays tight all day long. - Great build quality and choice of materials. - Minimal break in period. - Dirt and grime wash off easily. - Tight secure fit great for downhill descents. - Supportive enough to carry light - medium pack loads under 30 lbs. - Go-anywhere, do-anything shoe capable of transversing rivers, snow, mud, boulder scrambles, rock climbs. Cons: - Shoe can get quite a bit warm due primarily to goretec liner (not the shoe's fault). - Tread on shoe could be more aggressive for trail use. I have a pair of Salomon Speed Cross 2's with incredible treads I would have like to have on the XA Pro. - List price is a tad high. - Lacing system is proprietary and you will have to put some effort into finding replacement laces. Replacement laces aren't expensive but you won't be able to stroll in to a store and buy a pair off the rack. BACKGROUND INFO ON MY EXPERIENCE WITH SHOE ---------------------- Miles hiked in this shoe: 120 (approx.) Length of ownership: 2 months Terrain/Conditions hiked: snow, heavy rain, rivers, boulder scrambles, mud, rock climbs

These Shoes are extremely comfortable and lightweight. I got the Gore Tex model and even wearing them in the high desert plains, they do not make my feet sweat that much.

Beware of the cutting into the ankle bone
June 19, 2011

I love the brand but with this particular shoe the sides cut into my ankles. To the point of irritation and had to discontinue use. That is with hiking socks too.

Fits like a glove
May 16, 2011

Light as a feather and lacing system is just amazing. They arrived when it was raining so I took off for a five mile uphill and back hike and feet were dry and happy. Gripped asphalt and muddy dirt road withiout a hitch. Have 2 other pairs of Salomons for different purposes and they fit well and one has lasted for almost 10 years (about ready to drop), but these are simply the best on all fronts. I go back and forth between 11 and 11.5, but with Salomon I do better with the larger size.

Cons: none

Great Hiking Shoes
April 28, 2011

This has to be one of my best purchases ever. I have two pairs of Merrells that I have never found very comfortable. I purchased these while planning a trip to the Grand Canyon and Sedona hopeing to find something I would like better. Boy did I ever, I'm getting ready to order a second pair that I can keep looking a little nicer to wear around town.

Just as comfortable as the low cut. Salomen has done it again. Not a single product has failed me yet. The look, the feel, and the quality is unmatched.

Love the Waterproof!
February 16, 2011

I bought these shoes for my father who runs a green house business. He spends full days on his feet and has never found shoes that he loves, but he loves these! They are very waterproof which is a wonderful plus for watering, etc. He is on his feet 8+ hours a day, and has NO complaints.

Highly recomended
December 20, 2010

I had the shoe version these for for nearly five years and they where superb. I mainly used them for hiking so I went for the mid version for a little ankle support this time around. So far I am not disappointed. I imagine they will be as durable as my last pair.

Great, but too narrow
December 15, 2010

I had researched these and other GTX mid trail-running shoes and looked forward to receiving these Salomons. They have everything I was looking for in quality, construction, design, etc., and they appear to have great potential for long durability. My only issue is their narrowness in the arch/midsole area, a problem for me due to the need for orthotics. Per the suggestion of another reviewer, I ordered a half-size larger to see if it would fit better. Unfortunately, the narrowness is pretty much the same. All of this said, I would totally recommend these shoes for anyone without my particular issue. Truly bummed that I think I'll have to send them back, but I'm holding on to them for a second trial walk.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use
Cons: narrow arch/midsole if orthotics needed

Great shoes for all conditions!
October 11, 2010

Perfect for rainy norwegian autumn :) The higher wrist makes the shoes nice as an exchange for rubber boots, as you can pull raindress pants over the wrist to seal up. Great comfort.

Pros: Great design, Performance, Ease of use
