I really enjoy these Salomons for trail running and paintball. When they snug up, they snug up evenly thoughout the lacing which makes them like butter on your feet. I love the Gortex feature so I can splash through puddles all day without a worry. I will for sure get another pair when I these wear out-if they do.

I am on my 6th pair of XA Pro 3D Ultra GTX's. They are one of the best shoes I have ever owned. Only one drawback: I like my shoes laced VERY tight and that tends to wear the first grommet that holds the laces fairly fast. They last for about 6-9 months. However, I wear my shoes everyday and I am always moving... All in all, not a big enough deal to not give 5 stars!

The Salomon XA 3D Ultra GTX lives up to my high expectations. I am on my third pair, and plan to keep buying them as I wear them out. I'm a big guy (5'11" and 220lbs) with a neutral step. I use these shoes to run on crushed granite trails and occasionally single track with no complaints. The footbed provides a firm yet flexible foundation leaving my feet feeling fine after 3-5 mile runs (can't say the same for most others). The GTX works great as a weather/water barrier. It is no doubt slightly warmer than a non-GTX shoe, but that is expected. The lacing system is great...easy to use, holds consistently, super cool, and durable (I've never broken one regardless of how tight I crank them, within reason). IMO, there is no better all-weather trail running shoe available.

I first got introduced to xwings a few years ago... these shoes are without a doubt, the best quality, and most comfortable shoes on the market. Normal shoes show significant signs of wear after a month or so... I routinely use these shoes for over 8 months while they look brand new, then another 8, before I just get tired of them and want to update them. You won't find me on the road, or on the trail in any other shoe.

As an ecstatic owner of the XA Pro 3D MID GTX, I was looking for a low-cut shoe that had the same great features. And the XA Pro 3D Ultra GTX has all of them and more. I would recommend this shoe to anyone who wants to run trails that include streams and wet areas where the GTX keeps one dry.

Pretty awesome shoe. I bought these to wear walking to and from work in New York City and they've been great. They're very comfortable and warm for my commute. (however I can see how they would be warm in the summer) I used them during the recent blizzard we had and they dominated the snow and kept my foot very dry. I don't take them off on the weekends and they have quickly become my favorite all around shoe. While I don't use them for trail running, they have proven to be a great hiking shoe as well.

Excellent trail shoe! These are my 3rd pair of Salomon trail running shoes. I run up Pikes Peak and the Front Range in CO. I have tried other shoes, but nothing has come close to the durability and performance that Salomon offers. I highly recommend these trail runners.

When its a less hardcore hiking trip, this will be the go-to Pair for me. Its waterproofing were excellent holding up 3 years of abuse in the Asian weather (rain/shine/humidity). When I felt lazy, this was also the go-to pair for a quick run around town. The lacing system was smart and held up throughout. Too bad after 3 years, mine has finally gave in, and its now time for the Next Pair!!

These are a recent purchase and I have only had them out on the trails for a couple of runs. So far I am loving them. I had a pair of Vasque Aaether Tech Boas before. Those were great shoes, but I can tell that I am going to like these even better!

I have had the XA Pro 3D Ultra GTX Trail Running Shoes for about a month and have been very pleased with them. These shoes were comfortable right out of the box and I have put about 20 miles on them with no blisters or hot-spots.

Gore-Tex is great, seem to run 1/2 size small. I ordered a 9 1/2 (usually wear a 9). I tried on 4 different brands and Salomon was by far the most comfortable. Nice lacing system. Altrec.com was very helpful, I returned for diff color and size. No problems. I would recommend these.

The Salomon XA 3D Ultra GTX lives up to my high expectations. This is my 3rd pair. I use them for hiking, backpacking, cycling and walking around town. Simply an excellent Gore-Tex shoe suitable for many uses. I love the Gortex feature so I can splash through puddles all day without a worry.My feet stayed warm and dry. Easy to use "Quick On and Off" laces. They fit right to my 10.5 size. The design and colors of the shoe are exactly as shown on the website. Not cheap but worth the cost. Excellent shoe overall.

This shoe is so comfortable and is great in wet conditions.

This is my second pair of XA Pro 3D GTX. I live in Alabama and run trails on the mountain near my house first pair last a full year. Gore-Tex liner works well and will keep you feet dry if you dont go in over the top. Shoe runs narrow so I size up 1/2 and still have to break them in some. Lacing system is too sweet. As always great service from Altrec, had my size and color in stock with competitive price.

Great waterproof trail runner, odd fit

I owned a pair of Solomon shoes before (Speed Cross 2) and they fit like a glove. These run about a half size too large, and the toe is too boxy. The end of my foot just swims around at the toe. I love the lacing on the Solomon shoes, but the lace pouch you are supposed to tuck the laces into at the tongue just looks too bloated and catches your pants. The shoe felt very stiff initially, but eventually broke in. Bottom line, this is a great tough, waterproof shoe, and is more at home doing things like winter hiking and disc golf than trail running.

I buy these types of shoes every few years for hiking and wearing around town, especially when its raining. Bottom line - this is the perfect shoe. It is lightweight, true to fit, and very comfortable. The lacing system is the bonus. I've had several different pairs of this shoe type by other clothing companies, but this is the best by far. It has a great look and isn't as bulky as the other brands.

I've had these shoes for about six months now and I really can't say anything bad about them. They are comfortable, waterproof, and pretty light. Buying shoes online can always be a little hard because of different sizes, but these were true to the same size I wear in Merrell's and Patagonia's. I would recommend them not only for running but as an everyday shoe. The lacing system is also great.

I wore these shoes when I went to Rome and they were waterproof, very comfortable, and lightweight. They were easy to pack in my suitcase and felt great to wear - quick to get on and off. I usually wear a size 13 but these ran large and I had to order a size 12.

This is my 3rd pair. I use them for hiking, backpacking, cycling and walking around town. These shoes are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn, and the kevlar lace pull system ROCKS! And Altrec had them on my front porch in 2 days!

I use these shoes for backpacking and I love them. they are super light weight and are really comfortable on the trail. I have found them to be very durable and able to take a beating. I love the shoe lace cord thing that these shoes use.

Over past four months I have now run >500 kms of mountain trails - stony, muddy and very uneven - in hot tropical conditions, and found the Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra GTX a really great pair of shoes - breathe easily after going through water - extremely cushioning on hard, stony surfaces, and comfortable for my wide feet. Lace system keeps exactly the right tension, and soles excellent grip in dry conditions - so much better than my previous Adidas trail runners - small criticism is not such good adherence on mossy or wet rock. Overally best trail shoes I have used.

I did buy this shoe a 1/2 size bigger than street shoe. Glad I did, it fits great. I wore it around for a couple months & then took them to Utah over slickrock & through creeks & stuff. Did not have a problem. Soles could be a bit thicker for these uses but that can just be a personal issue for me. They were dirty as heck when I brought them back & put them in the washer & months later they still look & feel new.

I loved the looks, traction, and lacing system, but was disappointed that these shoes did not last nearly as long as The North Face trail running shoes that I previously had. Multiple areas on each shoe tore and wore through much too soon. This show runs narrow.

Bought these as a replacement pair for my non-Goretex version. These are equally as comfortable and feel a little sturdier. Took about 10 miles to break them in but that's OK by me. They might run about 1/4-1/2 size large.

At 75 years old I have walked through hundreds of pairs of walking and running shoes. These shoes are so comfortable and stable that I wear them for every day wear. Thank goodness sneakers have become the fashion in the West. These shoes have also reduced the number of aches and pains in my feet, ankles, knees and hips... without doubt. The fast lace system also makes them a Godsend for elderly people. Getting them through Altrec has also been amazingly easy, especially since they are available in very few stores.

Best Trail Shoes Ever!

I am on my fourth pair of Salomon XA Pro GTX shoes and I will continue to buy them every time I wear a pair out. Few things in the outdoor world are usually worth the high price but these are. I work outside and backpack alot as well and basically wear them every single day. I can't quite get a full year out of them before I have destroyed them but pretty close and much longer than any other shoe I have tried. The sizing is true to fit and they are as comfortable as any running shoe, house shoe or anything else you could wear. Best GTX shoes ever!

quality was less than desired

had the pair of shoes for a 3 weeks, used it for walking about and hiking in the south western parts of china and the material started to fray around the edges of the shoe, near the toes of foot where it flexes . looks like the inflection folds / areas are causing it to chaff and thus started to fray. amazingly it happened on both the left and right shoe. a small tear was the result (about 1/2 inch). never had that happening to me ever on a salomon, material seems to be less than durable. hope this is not the start of a trend.

Great Winter Shoe

I purchased these shoes for my husband who has very narrow feet and in the past has used orthotics. He generally walks for more than 8 hours per day, a couple hours of which are spent outside. He loves these shoes, he can lace them snugly around his narrow feet and does not need any additional cushion or support. His feet stay dry and comfortable for the entire day. Both of our sons have also purchased these shoes and have each worn them daily through wet Oregon winters. Highly recommend!

I am a P.E teacher and I bought these shoes because I am in the grass and fields all day long. I've been going through mud and all kinds of terrain and they are one of the best shoes I've ever worn. My feet do not ache. Overall, great shoes, great product, and great design. I would definitely buy the same pair again in multiple colors.

Shoe seems to run a bit long and narrow.. I usually wear a 9.5, but ordered a 9 and it was still a little long and narrow. Other than that, the shoe has some great high-density tread that looks like it will last despite being very light weight

This will be my second pair of these shoes. I absolutely love them! The gortex in these shoes never fail and I've put them to the test. What I especially like about these shoes is the ability to store the laces out of the way in the "lace garage". When I'm biking, I never have to be concerned about my laces getting caught in the bike gears or pedals.

Snowy Road Running

I wanted a shoe for long runs on snowy country roads while marathon training. I bought a pair 1/2 size larger then usual (size 11) to allow two pair of socks but they run a bit large and could have gone with my usual size. I have a wide foot and they were plenty wide in the forefoot for me. I did a couple of short runs to test the feel and then did 22 miles in them on a road with 2-3 inches of snow with no problems. My feet stayed warm and dry. I have not had them long enough to evaluate wear but my initial impression is excellent. I took a bit to get used to the lacing system but have now decided I like it. Snow traction is good. Not cheap but worth the cost. Excellent shoe overall.

The Salomon XA 3D Ultra GTX goes beyond my expectations for an athletic shoe. This is my 3rd pair of this type and my 6th Salomon footwear purchase. I use them for hiking, cycling and walking. The soles keep their traction on uneven paths and the support is superb. One feature I look for is the Gore-Tex membrane that keeps my feet dry especially when I travel to cold, wet environments. For me they are true to size. The quick lace feature is so convenient I'm afraid I've become lazy in lacing other athletic shoes. I do like the styling of these shoes; they're not flashy, but they do take notice. These shoes are not cheap, but they are worth every cent that I've spent and I highly recommend them.

i have had salomon shoes in the past and this one fits no different. it is amazingly comfortable, supportive and responsive. fits true to size. will use this for three months backpacking in europe and gtx will help with all of their rain in the north, cant wait!

This shoe is well designed. Provides ample support and comfort. The shoe provided very good traction running on the side of the road with 1-2" snow on the ground. A bit stiffer than my street shoes but I assume the added cushion comes from running on the trail. In addition the pull and set lacing is a really cool feature of this shoe's design and the laces hold tight. I highly recommend this shoe to any serious trail or off-road runner.

Well Built Shoe, but...

After reading the reviews, I decided to try this shoe. I know Solomon's reputation and felt confident that this would be a good buy. I have a narrow foot and am small in stature, so the right shoe is never easy to find. The shoe fit o.k. and I did 10 miles out of the box with no hot spots. However, the shoe never felt right. The construction is very rigid and the soles seemed rough on my feet, almost bumpy. The sides rest right under my ankles and while not chafing my ankles, they always felt a bit uncomfortable. This shoe is obviously well made (as it should be at this price), but it is not right for me. I think it might be more suitable for someone who is much larger than I am. I have worn Asics for about 30 years and should have looked at their new Gore-Tex trail shoe. That will be my next order as soon as Altrec gets them back in stock.

I really like this shoe. Wore it out of the box and hiked all day at Zion NP. No discomfort, no blisters, no break-in time. Lightweight and comfortable and sure-footed.

I was looking for a waterproof trail runner and this shoe gets rave reviews on multiple sites. It also appeared available in a dark gray/red color combination that I liked. Unfortunately, the fit was not right for me - the forefoot space was too large. I was surprised in that I have owned many Salomon shoes over the years and generally they have fit my feet perfectly. As a minor consideration, the gray color was much lighter than I expected from the pictures on the web.

This is my third pair of Salomon shoes. I haven't been disappointed yet. The quality and confort is better than major name brands. They fit right to my 10.5 size. I love this shoes so much that I prep them with leather conditioner on the leather inserts before first use. I will buy this brand again.

4th pair in 8 years. If they didn't last so darn long I would have more than that by now. Extremely versatile, comfortable, supportive. Great for a multitude of activities such as hiking, trail running, mountaineering, or just going out for a bite. And as long as the powder isn't too deep you can definitely shovel in them due to their GTX exterior!

I received my shoes several days ago and they fit perfectly. They are comfortable, and easy to put on and take off. The design and colors of the shoe are exactly as shown on the website. We're getting to our rainy season so I'm going to put them to the real test very soon.
