Great looking trail shoes!
April 07, 2012
Got these from Altrec just 2 weeks ago. So far have worn them for a few days which included 2 x 1hr hikes along muddy and scree trails. They breathe very well and dry quickly. It took me a few tries to get the hang of using the kevlar lacing but now I'm used to it. Am mindful not to jerk or pull too hard. ( read some reviews here of the kevlar lacing breaking!). This pair takes over from my 5 year old Adidas Cardona shoes. Compared to them, the XA pro's feel more stable yet has the right amount of cushioning. The Energy Cell 2 probably helps because i feel a spring on every step!. I did feel that these shoes are meant to be worn when one does not carry too heavy a load. My guess is 5kg is comfortable. 10kg onwards and the shoes start to feel mushy. On Adidas i wear a size 12. With the Salomon's the size 11.5.
Pros: breathes well, stableFantastic trail traction
February 05, 2012
First time out with these shoes I ran ten soggy trail miles. I have had several different styles from salomon and these are by far the best trail runners I've used. The traction on wet granite and limestone is unbelievable. Also running through standing water was awesome because they seem to disperse the water away very well. After ten miles with no break-in I have no blisters. Great shoe!
Pros: traction, toe protection, sole, lightweightSalomon Men's XA Pro 3D Ultra 2 M+ Trail Runners

These shoes are fantastic. Exactly what I was looking for, a very light and comfortable shoe. The fit gives you great stability and traction (6', 190 lbs.).
Great fit, Great durability, the only shoe I buy!
December 20, 2011
Solomon Running shoes are in a class of their own. Most shoes wear out within 2-3 months. With Solomons, I routinely get 9-12 months, then I get new shoes because I'm sick of the old ones, not that they are that worn out!
Pros: style, durability, great lacing systemA return to the days of old, for Salomon at least.
September 09, 2011
These are my "go-to, go everywhere" shoe, and I am glad to have them back in my "shoe line up" after a several year hiatus. I have worn Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra's off and on for 6 or seven years. Initially I absolutely loved this model, going through three pairs in two years. Early models were high quality, fit well (had a wide toe-box), and breathed exceptionally well (necessary when one has sweaty feet like me). However about four years ago I noticed a severe dip in durability/fit and had to go to another brand (oh the wonders of global manufacturing and quality control). Well, to make a long story short I decided to gamble on this shoe again, and I haven't had a reason to regret it. These shoes fit like the old model (granted I purchased the M+), and the quality is as good as i remember. The mesh seems to breathe well, and traction is not an issue. Bottom line, best shoe I've worn at this price point.
work horse
May 16, 2011
I've tried several different trail runners and I keep coming back. I have taken these on trails from all different tech levels in all weather/trail conditions and they have performed every time. They are good all around "work horse" trail runners, so if you don't want to buy a different shoe for different conditions then they are the shoe for you. To be fair they do run narrow, good for me, and they will start to break down after 450-500 miles but I found it worth it, and I avg 50-70 trail miles a wk.
great purchase
March 25, 2011
I bought these about 2 months ago and they have been great! The majority of their use has been on trails in all conditions, but I've also ran on pavement with them. They have been great each time. Initially I was skeptical of the lacing system, but it has proven itself to me. It doesn't come loose, and actually provides great support and flexibility. The soles provide good traction on muddy, slippery and rocky terrain. They are really lightweight, but still feel solid and have good cushion and overall support. I wear 14 D with medium high arches and the shoes fit very well. I would recommend them to anyone who runs trails.
Nice Shoe
March 11, 2011
I purchased this after having the XA Pro 3D Ultra Gtx Mid hiking shoe for 6 months. This is also a great boot. It fits a bit snugger compared to my mid shoe, but is very comfortable. I have not had any issues with the lacing system. I am looking forward to running with these to get an idea of durability. However, so far , so good. Strongly recommended.
Great all around shoe
January 10, 2011
I bought these at the recommendation of multiple friends who have purchased them and swear by Salomon trail shoes. They were not kidding. I took them out on a 13 mile loop on Standing Indian Mountain in north Ga and they felt amazing. I had worn them one day prior to the hike, that's it, and i had no blister or rubbing issues at all. I wear an 11.5 in Brooks Running shoes and ordered an 11.5 in these and they fit great. They feel a little stiff when you first put your foot in but the insole feels great on my higher arched foot. Highly recommended. Only con is they can be somewhat pricey.
Another great Salomon shoe

Salomon fits my feet so just keep it coming. They last, they fit and they look good.
Extraordinary product

Great Trail Runner
November 09, 2010
I don't usually buy running shoes on-line as the fit is so critical, but I don't regret this decision. These shoes are great, right out of the box. Didn't need any break-in time, and they are supportive and comfortable, even on uneven terrain. Too early to tell on durability, but the shoe appears to be very well made. Would definitely buy it again.
Great Shoe
October 12, 2010
This shoe is comfortable and durable. I have not had a chance to really test, but so far it has been great. It has good tread, easy to slip on/off, feels true to size, and plenty light for running. However, one thing that seems to lack is support, but support is usually sacrificed with weight. Overall a good shoe!
Better then the Gore-Tex Version or are they???
October 07, 2010
Man do I love these shoes!! I have both gore-tex and regular versions. I do prefer the look of the gore-tex over the mesh, but the gore-tex are simply too hot for the majority of conditions. My first purchase was the gore-tex I wore them everywhere but finally wore down the treads. My experience with these shoes was so wonderful that I immediately started searching for the Salomons once again. Well, I ran onto a deal with the XA Pro 3d Ultra and decided to give them a try. I was a little apprehensive at first because they simply did not appear as rugged as the gore-tex, this was until I gave them a test run. My first trail run out of the box was a 6.5 mile loop at a trail nearby. It rained the day before and the ground was a little muddy, with the typical roots, rocks, and ruts of any trail. Immediately, I felt very comfortable in the shoes, I felt really in control even with the conditions as the traction and grip is outstanding. The toe guard is very defined and sturdy, providing you protection against the terrain, it allows you to focus on the run, not the rock or tree root that you just bashed your foot into! My feet did not get hot throughout the run and really no issues whatsoever. Just solid performance of these Salomons. The footing was much like that of the gore-tex version with an overall "lighter" feel throughout. The lacing system is out of this world, when tightened it evenly pulls all of the laces without pressure points, etc. They are so easy to take on and off, in a matter of seconds your'e out the door. I would recommend these for Spring, Summer and Fall. If you find yourself running in heavy snow, rain, or very muddy conditions then maybe go for the gore-tex, but be aware that even in most of these conditions your feet are going to get hot and if the water gets above the ankle, water will get in and they take much longer to dry. Its a tough call but for me, I think the regular version is tough to beat. Having one of each would be ideal, but if it comes down to one, its gotta be the non gore- tex version. They are a little less bulky, dry quicker and are much cooler. My only issue is I think the tread could be a little more rugged/durable as I thought it wore down too quick on my older pair.
Super Salomons
July 14, 2010
The A Pro's are THE BEST overall trail shoe! Great feel right out of the box. The lacing system can't be beat. I'm going to try the GTX version net!!
This has become my number one choice.
July 08, 2010
I love this trail shoe, I generally hike and run about 50/50 and find that this shoe performs well for everything that I do.
very confortable
May 20, 2010
very comfortable i used this 3D Ultra trail Running Shoe as one of my every day shoes. If you are looking for comfort and balance, this is where to go.You won't regret your choice.
Super comfortable trail running shoes!
April 26, 2010
Very light and comfortable shoes. The lace pulls are extremely convenient.
All other shoes are now obsolete
April 15, 2010
I was hesitant to purchase this shoe due to the somewhat high price, but BOY was it worth it! The cushion and support this shoe provides makes it super-duper comfy to wear, which is why I now wear my 3D Ultras as my everyday pair of shoes. The lacing system is simple, fantastic, and secure. These shoes also breathe like nobody's business. Please do yourself a favor and pick these up, and never look back at the junk you used to wear on your feet!
The only running shoe I'll ever buy!!!
February 18, 2010
If you want a trail shoe that feels like a glove, this is it. I am an avid trail runner and this shoe has changed my life. I can power through the roughest terrain this world has to offer with these comfortable and capable beauties!!! THESE GO HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
Awesome quality

I LOVE THESE SHOES. I have both the Goretex ones and the regular ones, and they are both great. They are the best shoes I have bought, and they are worth every penny.

October 27, 2009
By far the best shoe that I have ever owned. I've gone running (literally) down boulder-laden cliffs in Yosemite and they didn't slip at all. The semi-hard tip also saved my toes quite a few times. The only drawback is that I had to use a fisherman's knot to fix one of the draw strings about a month or two into owning the shoes. However, it has held without being retied for over a year. The other shoe is now developing the same problem. Other than that, it'd be 5 stars!
Great shoes
October 27, 2009
On my third pair of these shoes after the first pair lasted over a year under wet and harsh conditions. If you need a shoe to handle wet conditions, this is it.
I make a living with my feet.XA Pro 3D UTR shoe is perfect
October 13, 2009
I am a pro golf caddie and so my feet are very important to me.If I was behind a desk all day every day you can bet I'd have a comfortable chair.Same goes for the feet.I want to be comfortable. The shoe is lighter than sneakers and are durable. It's great during these fall days when there is morning dew.A caddie does not like wet feet.Wheather you get Gor-Tex or not these shoes are the best.If you want to know what footware is comfortable look at what caddies are wearing. Thanks Salomon, and Alltrek
Best tail running shoe straight out of the box!
August 04, 2009
Within the hundreds of miles on these shoes I've never had a problem. No BLISTERS, nothing. They fit my foot very well. Whether you are adventure racing, trail running, or wearing them everyday...(I do all of the above)these are hands down my favorite she. I have no reason to try anything else. Rivers, Mud, Rain, don't stop these shoes. The last 25k trail run ran us through knee deep water within the first mile, so you ran the entire race with wet shoes. No Problems!!! Try these shoes!!!
Great Trail Running Shoe.
June 29, 2009
This is a very good shoe. It is very comfortable and has great traction. The lace pocket is awesome. The mesh is great and keeps the shoe very lightweight. I recommend this shoe!
The best trail running shoes ever made
April 09, 2009
Comfort, stability, and protection unmatched in any other trail shoe I have tried. I like to cliff run in these shoes meaning I jog for miles over extremely sharp rocks. My friend cannot keep up with his Adidas trail running shoes. Once he got a pair of 3D Ultras, he was fine. I highly recommend these shoes. They are only good on the trail though, I do not recommend if you spend any amount of time running on concrete. Buy the XT Wings if you run on pavement.
Great shoe - No disappointments
March 04, 2009
I have been searching for good adventure racing shoe. This shoe is comfortable and rugged. The shoe laces are a plus in the transition area. I will buy them again. Two things learned: Order at least 1/2 size bigger than your regular size (these run small but have plenty of toe room), tuck the laces in the tongue pouch before bushwhacking.
Outstanding
February 25, 2009
I have been wearing these shoes for almost a year and they are the most stable shoes I've ever had. My wife also got a pair and says they are the most comfortable shoe she ever had.
4x4 for your feet
November 18, 2008
I have taken my pair from the tropical conditions of backpacking on Kauai to daily trail running sandstone singletrack and mountain fire roads in southern California, I have yet to have a piece of outdoor equipment that I felt so pleased with. I also have a pair of Salomon Tech Amphibians (which I love as well) for extra wet conditions. Top notch quality, great fit, and excellent all around trail grip. I'm ordering a second pair as we speak.
Great Shoe on and off the Trail
November 07, 2008
I Switched from New Balance about a year ago and have been more than satisfied with the quality and comfort that Salomon provides in their trail shoes. By far this is the best trail shoe I have owned. On and off the trail in the High Desert of CA the shoe provides support, stability and comfort. I would recommend any of their products.
Salmon Shoes - Probably the best trail running shoes there are!
June 17, 2008
I bought the salomon xa pro 3d shoes a few weeks back and have found them to be your traditional salomon quality. (that mean's excellent for those of you who have never worn them). The lacing system is by far my favorite feature. It makes for a perfect fit each and every time. These fit true to size, so if you normally wear a 10.5, get a 10.5. Salomon is known for their trail running shoes, but I haven't made any plans to use these for that. For now, I've only worn them around town and expect them to last for a while. The side mesh seems to help release air from inside. I also like that they are fairly lightweight and quick to put on and off. You won't be disappointed.
Great Shoe for All-around outdoors
May 28, 2008
This is a great shoe for adventure racers. It will take you through anything. It,s not the lightest nor the best pure runner. It is very supportive, has good grip, and can handle some off-trail excursions with a light load. Once they get wet, they drain/dry very fast. If your between sizes order up 1/2 size. If you looking for the "one" shoe, this is it.
