Have now bought several pairs of Salomons. Great fit, although they do take a bit to get used to because of the insole support. New Balance feels flat like a canvas Converse in comparison. Love the lacing system. Took awhile to figure out that the upper section of the tongue has a pocket for the plastic tighteners. A+

Great shoes
I got a hot spot on my first hike, but from then on these have been great shoes. I use them for hiking and just walking around town. They are very light, well-fitting, they fit true to size, I love the easy lacing system, and the Gore-Tex has so far kept my feet dry even after dunking my foot in water. Probably the best trail shoes I've ever owned. I used to wear Hi-tec (which are often very good for the price), Raichle, Merrell, plus more conventional running shoes from Nike and New Balance, and these are better than any of those.

Great, great shoe...
Excellent shoe, durable and comfortable. More narrow than I'd assumed, but even with my wide sasquatch feet, they feel fantastic with just a day or so's wear. The price from here is a good $100 cheaper than my local stores too. Highly recommended.

Salomon Trail Runners

Versatile, Durable, Peerless
If you are looking for a solid pair of running shoes that can serve double-duty as light hikers then look no further. I live in New Mexico and the water proof layer still provides plenty of ventilation for warmer climates. I have owned Merrels, Montrails, New Balance... and these are quite simply the best "sneakers"/ runners/ light trail-shoes I have ever purchased. That being said, you pay for what you get. Ouch. But well worth it.

Get out and get dirty
Excellent shoe for all sorts of conditions. These shoes are comfortable, offer great arch support and have nice toe protection. Perfect traction on wet conditions. Keeps your feet warm and dry. The lacing system is perfect for easy on and off transitions. They appear as a pretty bulky shoe but are actually very lightweight, durable and breathable. This is the first pair of Salomon shoes I've purchased and will definitely be getting another pair in the future.

Great shoes!
The shoes are just as I expected. My trainer wore a pair while we worked out together and he said they were like slippers. Not too macho, but a great description. I would definately buy another pair in the future. Altrec was the only company that had exactly the style and color I wanted and as a bonus - Great Customer Service! Thanks.

Great waterproof 3 season shoe
First time wearing Solomon, I would purchase another pair. I bought this shoe based on the reviews already given, and now from personal experience I would buy another pair. For wet/winter wear, Gore-Tex is the only thing to have in a pair of footwear, so I was sold on that. I love the overall light weight of the show and how it conforms to my foot. The lacing system is unique, and has yet to let me down. I don't run on trails, so I don't know how they feel while running. I will say the lacing system can get the shoe very tight- so if you lace up tightly, this shoe can do that and more. Also, I did feel the top of my foot being a little uncomfortable (something rubs on the top of my foot in the shoe) and maybe I need to break it in or wear thicker socks. Overall, they fit great and are wonderful for cold, wet or snowy days.

My third pair. every year they update it and it's been the same great consistent quality. It's fashion forward! i use them as an every day shoe, they always complement my wardrobe at work. i'm also a road runner and i prefer non-gortex shoes. so i exercise in others. these shoes are great to wear all day!

Phenomenal
These shoes are awesome. I bought them because I wanted a shoe that I could do everything in from walking in the mall to running outside on trails. They're incredibly light, durable, and very comfortable; the arch supports are great too. The innovative lacing system really does allow the shoe to hug one's foot much better than ordinary shoe laces. And, my favorite feature, they're water proof. I live in Washington State, it rains here a lot. I'll never have to worry about getting soaking my shoes through again. In short, these shoes are worth every cent that you'll pay for them. Solomon really has a good thing going here and their competitors can't match them. If you buy them, you'll be glad you did.

Great shoes
This is shoes is really good. I practice Adventure Race in Brazil and last month I participated in a 312 Km competition. This shoes keep dry and comfortable during 3 days. I do recommend.

lace broke
My men's XCR trail shoe fit great and only ran in them when conditions were really wet or slushy. However, my lace broke on the left foot, thus rendering the shoes useless after 1 year. Can't buy product again with this lacing system.

FANTASTIC !
An exceptional pair of running trainers either on or off road. Ideal for rough tracks the sole gives plenty of cushioning unlike road trainers. The Gortex lining works wonderes when off the beaten track and running through long grass (no wet feet any more) I've not once has sore feet whilst running in them, i also use mine as an every day to day shoe so thats why i'm on my second pair, You wont regret buying a pair.

Can not believe how amaizing these sneakers are!!!!
I run along with my dog, Roxy, an average of 12 miles a week. We mix it up with road and trail running. I bought the XA Pro 3D XCR running shoes so that we can keep up with the cold and wet East Coast winters. They are warm enough that I do not notice the cold as I did with my non-insulated sneakers yet my feet never over-heated. I have already put these sneakers through rain and mud and my feet came out dry and clean. I just brushed off the sneakers when they dried and they looked as good as new. As far as running comfort and performance goes, they can not be beat. I actually prefer them to my high end running sneakers that I wear in the warmer weather. The stability and comfort is better than I ever imagined it could be. I have ran through rain, mud, wet leaves and rocks, up steep muddy trails, over logs, etc.... and the soles have heald on to the terain without any problems. I highly recommend these to anyone looking for an excellent cold, wet weather trail runner. Ms. Roxy recommends them too because they allow her to still run her little heart out when most other dogs are stuck inside because there owners do not have the Salomon XA Pro 3D XCR Running Shoe.

Fantastic shoes
Hi have used XA PRO 3D's in the past which I found to be fantastic shoes but I wanted the Gore Tex models since I'm now working in a ski resort. Now I will have dry feet for the winter and they also have the greatest lacing system ever. No more having to do up laces again.

My 4th Pair
The pooch and & walk several miles along trails and fields most mornings and these are the perfect athletic shoe. The tops may be soaked from dew, but the feet are always dry. The quick cinch eliminates untied shoes, and the shoes are bult to take a beating. I still have all 3 previous pairs, and use them for various specialty forays. The Mrs. tries to throw them away, but I am not above diving for these in the trash. I also saw the same shoe in a mall oriented outdoor store for $15 more than I paid at Altrec. Sweet!

Best Trail runners I've ever owned
I am VERY particular about shoes and these are the only shoes that I've found that matched all my criteria. Lacing system hasn't failed, durable toe cup, gore-tex lasted longer than expected for such a flexible shoe, sheds stains. Not much cushioning, but fantastic for light hiking. Most importantly, I have a heel "spur" that usually wears through the heel cup before the rest of the shoe wants to give up -- not with these!!! I love them!

good pick!
recently used in Jackson Hole for hiking and trail running. very comfortable, good support, and kept feet very dry going through wet grass and minor water. shoe laces nice and easy, stay out of the way. might want to go a half-size on the smaller size (compared to new balance at least) due to slight heel looseness.

Awesome Shoe!
These shoes are some of the best shoes I've ever had. I suffer from a fallen arch, and have to wear specially made insoles in all my shoes, but not with this shoe. I can put them on and not worry about putting my insoles in them. Great support, awesome looks, and a very convenient shoe string system makes this shoe an excellent choice.

I am outside 75% of the time with my job. Rain or shine these are wonderful shoes. You don't have to worry about the shoe laces, and still are comfortable at the end of the of my 10 hour days. Salomon + XCR = :o)
This is my secondpair of Gore infused Salomon trail runners and I am hooked for life. Not only is this a very attractive shoe, it is so functional due to the waterproof yet breatheable Gore-Tex. The lacing system is very slick..(although the lace can get worn and snap in less than a year..9 months on my first pair). I have worn these on campus, trail running, track running, sledding (couldn't find my boots!), and in various other snowy conditions, and man they do everything I ask of them and they still keep my feet warm and dry. Like I said before, I will always own a pair of waterproof Salomons...they can't be beat!

Great Off-Road
These really shine in rough trail and snow conditions. They are very comfortable and stable in rough uneven terrain. The lacing system is nifty and easy (especially with gloves on), but it can get uncomfortable if laced too tight. On the other hand, I have found the shoes perform great without having to pull the laces tight. One word of caution: while these are extremely comfortable off-road, they are not comfortable on the road. Stay off-road!

Great Shoe
Great shoe, great for Oregon's rainy weather and muddy trails. Good support, I have had trouble in past with heel spurs, but wearing these shoes with custom inserts has solved problem. A little narrow, but other than that a great comfortable trail shoe for wet weather and rough trails.

Once you go Salomon .. you never go back!
These shoes are my second pair of Salomon shoes. I think the shoes are: 1)Functional- so far they have been great with the winter weather. Waterproof and warm. i'm not really a trail runner so cant comment how great they are in terms of a running shoe. I use them for everyday workout wear at the gym. I love the lacing system. 2)Fashionable: very stylish. 3)Comfortable: I have flat feet, and I find the inserts provide great arch support - that being said, I agree with Gabriel (see review above)that they are slightly tight in terms of width. I'm strongly opposed to anyone wearing any footwear without socks unless they are sandals or canvas summer shoes!!!

Great shoe!
Keeps foot warm and dry. Lacing system rocks. Good traction. Fit is slightly off but I think that's my foot and not the shoe (I have the same problem in other shoes). I ordered a half size up to allow for thicker socks or foot swelling and that was the right thing to do.

Not perfect for everyone
So I tried these shoes and love everything about them except one thing. There is bump built into the shoe for arch support, but it is so significant and hard that it hurts my feet and I cannot wear the shoe. I have an average/normal arch shape. The problem is that rather than building this significant arch support into the addon sole like everyone else, they have it built right into the shoe itself, meaning you are stuck with this bump whether you like it or not. I also noted that the shoe had below average cushioning for a shoe of this type. Cool shoe, but make sure you try it on before you buy!

You don't have to worry about the laces...
Until they break. And you can't run out to your local store and but a couple cent pair of shoes laces. I usually use climbing cord, very thin in all my laces- but it is to think for these- so you have to spend $20.00 (I know its cheaper, but add in shipping and handling) to replace the laces on a $100 pair of shoes. its stupid.

This shoe has an issue
First let me say that I love the shoe!! I know, I know - you're probably thinking then why is this guy rating only 1 star?! I've owned 2 pair of these shoes over a total period of 6 days. On both pair the nylon shank (plastic piece within the footbed) on the right foot has broken and began squeaking... (also the shoe bends unevenly after the shank splits) I was planning on using the shoe for trail running, so I wore them around a little to break them in and the shoes couldn't even survive a calm day at the office - I can't imagine what would happen out on the trail... Great support, great lacing system, great styling, love the XCR, but the footbed has an issue... Fix that issue and you will have me hooked!!
