I've been using the different verity of Salmon Crossmax Trail Running Shoes for just under a decade. I buy them so that I always have one pair waiting for the current pair to wear out. I use them not only for running, they are very useful for cycling due to the shoelace pocket on the top of the shoes - helps avoid having tangled shoelaces in the front gears. The mesh top is very helpful keeping the foot dry & when the shoe does get wet, it dries comparably fast. When I needed service I got it: One of the laces, on a previous pair, snapped. Salmon provided a new "shoelace system" free of charge. The main con I can think of is wear & tear. Not to say I don't get a good 8-12 months use out of each pair, but these shoes seem to always start breaking down in the same place, the area of the shoe that bends where the toes meet the foot.
Pros: mesh top, dries qickly, shoelace system, serviceEasy Yes

These were my second Salomon running shoes (XA Pro 3D Ultra 2 GTX). I have a higher arch and one weak ankle so I want a snug fit, above average cushion and a stable shoe. The XR seems to fit that niche between road and trail running for me. You can do either or both and you have the right shoe. Nothing to gripe about here, very satisfied. Probably get these again next.
Pros: cushioning, sturdy, supportive, speed lacesMen's XR Crossmax Neutral Trail Running Shoe

Good all around trail-running shoe. Great support. I am a heavy runner (210lbs) and this shoe provides good cushioning. True to size, but a bit narrow.
Salomon Crossmax Neutral ROCKS!!!!

I consider these shoes one of my best running shoes I ever bought. I run 75% trail and 25% pavement and this shoes just rocks. Not only they are comfortable and light, they look good with jeans or shorts. I'll get another pair soon with different color.
Pros: comfortable light looks goodI can't stop buying Salomon trail shoes...

My first Salomon's were the XA Pro 3D, and I've been sold on Salomon's comfort, style, and simple lacing system! I consider the XR Crossmax to be a slightly better trail running shoe than the XA Pro. It is a bit more comfortable and seems to grip the terrain a bit better. Regardless, you will not be disappointed with ANY Salomon trail shoe!
Pros: lacing system, fit and comfort, altrec's pricingGreat Ride

Overall this is a great shoe that provides solid support, flexibility and cushioning in a lightweight shoe. I'm 6'0", 190lbs and IÂ’ve been on two trail runs (5 miles each run on some fairly rugged and rocky single-track) since purchasing these shoes and must say that they have been a pleasure to run in. As a heavy runner, I appreciate the excellent cushioning. They have solid foot protection that greatly softens the impact of rocks and gravel. They have solid traction and I have had no problems with the lacing system getting loose. The heel cushioning seems particularly good as I tend to drive my heels into the ground when running down hills. My only criticism of the shoe is that it comes up higher than I like on the outside of my ankles... they just touch the bottom of them so I thought I might get some rubbing/digging on the uphill ankle while on sloped trails. However, it has yet to bother me. I would buy them again as long as I donÂ’t start to develop any rubbing on my ankles but Salomon might want to consider lowering the outside of these shoes around the ankle just a bit.
Pros: cushioning, flexibility, light weight, foot protection, support
