Great pack for the seasons
July 22, 2012
I purchased this pack earlier this year and loved it so much I bought another one. For the money, there is no comparison. Originally purchasing this pack for backcountry skiing and ski mountaineering, I have since found a multitude of purposes for this pack. First of all it all depends on the person and there preferences. I myself want to be light and quick. I do several projects a year that require me to cross expanses in the upwards of 350 miles in a week. I needed the capacity to carry a load as well as stay light and mobile. For backcountry purposes, the pack holds the skis A-frame style for an ergonomic fit. The pack holds a shovel probe, helmet, rope and all of the necessary equipment I need to ascend to the top of a peak with room for more layers and food if I need them. During the spring it was unusually warm this year and I was able to hit the trails early. I decided to run the 255 mile trek from Duluth, MN to Canada on the Superior Hiking trail. I was able to complete the trail fastpacking in 5 days. The packs shoulder straps not once entrenched my shoulders carrying close to 25 pounds of gear and food. The waist belt really secures the weight to the hips taking the load of the shoulders. This displacement allows you to carry the weight more efficiently allowing me to move quicker and more freely. The back pad was just soft enough to provide great comfort. Now some technical info I really dig. The access sites were a huge component of why I chose this pack. There is a full side zip to access the main compartment as well as the standard top load. To me having universal access is a must. The second was the 30 liters volume was perfect for fastpacking, forcing me to choose my equipment wisely. There is no reason to take equipment along and not use it. I really appreciate the pockets on the hip belt so I can carry some snacks, camera and other items I want available at all times. The pack is hydration compatible and is incredibly easy to access which I appreciate, because some packs are like fort Knox. I think that really covers it all. If you have more questions for me please feel free to add comments. I hope this helps. Cheers!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
