Great winter boots!
I wear lightweight salomon trail-runners in spring/summer but these
are great for winter hikes. Very confortable alone or with my stabilizers. Very warm, extremely durable! Fit great too, true to size.

Very good Vegan Hiker
I should start the review by noting that I ordered these from Altrec, but decided after wearing them around the house with my backpack loaded, to look for another boot that goes up over the ankle, for backpacking trips. However, I am very pleased with the fit. I have a relatively narrow heel and instep area but wide across top/toe area, and these are a great fit for my foot. No heel slipping.
I see the reviews that say that even though this is a light hiking boot, it is suitable for backpacking, I will pack less than 30 pounds, but my feet pronate, so I want a boot that goes over the ankle, for addition motion control.
Since no one else has pointed this out, I want to also commend these boots since they are synthetic leather and as far as I can tell from the description, no leather is used to make the boot. That not only makes them extra light, but also vegan friendly! Thanks Salomon! But unlike some vegan shoes and boots that are stiff and not comfortable or supportive, for example for comparison the Garmont vegan boot, these are flexible and give very good support. If I am in the market in the future for a lighter day hiker, I will definitely buy these. Whether or not you are a vegan, if you want a light and supportive boot, you will want to check these out, but if you are a vegan, you REALLY want to try out these boots, since there are so few quality vegan friendly hiking boot options.

I LOVE these boots
These were everything I hoped for--lightweight, snug, and very very grippy on both rock and slippery muddy trails (and speaking of mud--really waterproof). Totally comfortable right out of the box. I wore them for the first time on a trip to Costa Rica, and though other reviewers have mentioned that they wear these in colder weather, I found them to be quite comfortable in the heat. They run significantly large; definitely order a half-size smaller than your regular size--I'm a 10, and 9.5 were a perfect fit. I also have very narrow insteps, heels, and ankles, and thus often have problems with heels slipping, so a big part of this rave is for the relatively narrow last and the way I was able to cinch them tight enough without making my toes numb! Couldn't be happier.

Nice and Light Weight
Great Shoes. True to the fit. Very, very light weight!!! Love them!
I would definitely recommend them as a hiking boot. Comfort and light weight are a plus!

First Purchase
I did much research in stores and online before purchasing these boots. I was confident with the Salomon brand name but new to altrec.com. I am very pleased with my boots and am excited about visiting this site again to shop. I will also recommend the site to my family and friends who love the outdoors. As the site indicated, the boots arrived very quickly and I had them in time for the first blizzard here. They are comfortable, light, and have great support.

Great all-around hiking boot
I absolutely love these boots. After having worn heavy, clunky hiking boots my whole life these boots are like a breath of fresh air. I wear a size 9 and with a hiking sock, these boots fit perfectly. I spent a week backpacking in these boots, scaling some tough terrain, having never worn them before and I was shocked that I never had any issues with blisters or sores. Don't let the lightweight feel of the boots fool you - they are tough, have a good tread, and withstand water penetration. I would highly recommend these boots to anyone.

Another perfect fit!
These boots are comfortable right out of the box. This is my second pair of Salomon hiking boots. They are well padded in the ankles and heel cup. Toe box is large enough to allow for foot swelling on long hikes.

Hiked across Scotland in these
I hiked from the west to the east coast of Scotland in these boots last year (picked them up in England). Great boots, but beware: - they run a 1/2 size large - if you're bog-hopping and camping in the rain for 2 weeks, you may be better off with a non-waterproof version and a couple pair of Gortex sock as they don't dry quickly. Once wet inside (ie. bogs can go OVER the top of the boot), they won't dry in damp conditions. - GREAT for ankle stability, but NOT for 20+ miles of walking on roads (probably shouldn't walk on roads for any distance in boots, especially wet ones). - Traction was excellent. - Excellent water protection, in pouring rain, crossing small streams, etc,. IF you don't go over the top of the boot (obviously).

great boot, but does run large
So far, I have used this boot while I work, in gardening. Am on my feet all day, walking or standing constantly, walking over rough and sometimes hilly terrain, stomping on a shovel while digging, etc. This shoe has been completely comfortable for me, so I don't have to even give foot comfort a passing thought. I particularly like the ankle support, and the "ortholite" footbed, with just the right amount of arch support for me, and not too cushy nor too hard. It has proven to be waterproof enough for my purposes, though it hasn't been tested walking in heavy rain or through puddles, yet. I own this general shoe, but a year or 2 older, and it is totally waterproof, in downpours with rain running off rainpants onto the shoes. I would have given this shoe 5 stars, except for Salomon's weird sizing--I wear a size 8.5 in most hiking boots, rarely size 8.0. I ordered the 8.0, which is working out, but I do think I might be even better in a 7.5.

FYI for the poster who had tendonitis problems
I too have had problems with a "pinching" of some boots similar to what you mentioned but I have found that by adjusting the laces (skipping the second to top or the top one itself will keep this from happening and make a comfortable boot. Great boot kept me dry even when crossing streams!

Ouch
These boots gave me tendonitis after one short walk and I had to return them, the top of the boots comes in too much at the heel.

Perfect lightweight winter hiking boot
Great boots- I have been looking for a good, not so heavy but still warm, winter hiking boot for winter jaunts. These are perfect. love the traction too.

Super Lightweight Hiking Boots
I bought these boots for snowshoeing and running on packed snow. They are perfect b/c they are basically Salomon running shoes with added ankle support. They are incredibly light weight, have excellent traction, and keep my feet very dry. They do run big, especially the toe box. I normally wear size 8 in running shoes but could almost get away with a 7 in these boots. I highly recommend them.
