Description

Rugged, lightweight and fully waterproof, the Salomon XA PRO 3D Ultra 2 GTX Trail Running Shoes for women is a low-slung off-road shoe that works well for training and damp race days. Salomon paired a GORE-TEX® Extended Comfort Footwear with a molded EVA for excellent waterproof protection on running trails. Like most highly acclaimed trail running shoes from Salomon, the women's XA PRO 3D Ultra 2 GTX Trail Running Shoes feature an easy-close lace adjustment and convenient lace pocket. The midsole design has a dual density EVA construction oriented toward moderate pronation control. Energy Cell 2 foam inside the midsole helps return energy to your feet as you run. Salomon notes that while this shoe is great for waterproof performance, it's not as breathable as other trail running shoes--so keep this in mind if your trail runs and outdoor fitness workouts wind through humid rainforests or other warm climates.

Third pair purchased and happy again
April 01, 2012

I love these shoes, which is why I am on my 3rd pair of them. There only seem to be a few brands of shoes and boots that fit my narrow, high- arched, short-toed foot, and Salomon is one of them. (Vasque, Nike, Asolo, while great shoes that many of my friends love, do NOT fit my feet.) I not only use them for trail running, but I also do all of my hiking (except for backpacking), and a good deal of hanging out in these shoes. I like the narrow profile of the shoe, they give me plenty of "sensitivity" on the trail, whereas heavier, wider shoes (such as Keens) feel like too much shoe and make me feel clumsy. The sole is beefy and grippy. I can't comment on the insole, as I have a customized orthotic that I use in all of my shoes. I live in the mountains of Utah and have snow and slush to deal with a lot longer than most. The GTX feature is great, I can walk right through a puddle and my feet stay dry. I often run on packed snow or mixed snow/slush ice, mud and dirt in a single run, and the shoes perform great. Understandably, when the shoes start to wear out, so does the waterproofing. While I love the convenience of Salomon's lacing system (it almost makes them into a "slide on" shoe, as it is so easy to quickly fasten the laces), this in the only place where I have a complaint. When the laces on my last pair broke, it was a MAJOR hassle factor to replace them. It took me almost an hour, special equipment and a lot of concentration to get one shoe laced. I'm not sure I would give up this lacing system all together, though I do wish Salomon would come up with a design that made replacing broken laces easier. Overall, great shoes, or I wouldn't keep buying them. I would give them 4 1/2 stars, 5 if replacing laces was easier.

Pros: comfortable, waterproof, good-looking, long-lasting, great performance
Cons: shoe laces difficult to replace

Rough heel!
March 20, 2012

All my running shows are Salomons, btw. This one runs large (get 1/2 smaller than usual) and the back of the shoes is very hard and rubs against the heel as you put your foot in. However, you don't feel it while running. I do think that Salomon has been slipping a little in quality, making more "improvements" on a good thing instead of leaving it alone. I wish I could go back in time and buy 20 pairs of the same model 3 years ago :) Still my favorite running shoe for comfort!

Great shoes
March 11, 2012

I love Salomon trail shoes and have bought several pairs of this model. They are tough, lightweight, great for muddy/wet trail conditions and have a nice grippy tread for slippery rocks. I find that Salomon shoes always run a bit big so I order a half size smaller than usual.

Close to perfect trail running shoe
February 28, 2012

This shoe has the features I was looking for - roomy toe box, great support and stability, protection from wet conditions, and a sole that sheds mud and debris. I did not give it 5 stars because the traction is not perfect, but that is an acceptable compromise for a tread that does not accumulate every rock, stick, and glob of mud. I have used it on dry and muddy dirt roads and trails, on steep sidehills, running through grass, snow, sagebrush and it performed beautifully. The only time I had traction trouble was in an inch of new snow which was so slick even a more aggressive tread might not have helped. I usually wear a size 7.5 but in this shoe, I wear a 7.

High Quality Delivers in Every Way!
January 02, 2012

Show fits true to size. Excellent water protection, traction, and comfort. I LOVE THE LACE SYSTEM! Colors are fun and the shoe performs in every way. I definitely recommend wearing the shoes several times out hiking before running trails in them (break them in). I wore them trail running in Winsocnsin, it had snowed the night before, but the warm sun was melting it by day making for some slippery & cold terrain. I had traction & warm/dry feet when I finished my 6mi run.

Favorite Shoe
November 12, 2011

I love these shoes! I have owned 5 pairs and don't think I will ever buy any other light hiker. They fit true to size, have good traction, hold up well, and I love the lacing system. Everyone in my family now has these shoes and fell the same as I. Would recommend to buy!
