Excellent boot in a big year for boots
November 20, 2012
Scarpa made their Maestrale even better by stiffening it up a bit. The fit is the same, and all the functions are the same. The rear and lateral flex are quite substantial, as good as any boot in its class. The forward flex starts out super gentle, and then stiffens up quickly but progressively. It feels much like a Flexon/Full-Tilt alpine boot with a #8 tongue. I would rank it as stiffer than the Garmont Cosmos, and not quite as stiff as the Dynafit Mercury/Vulcan line. Touring mode is as good or better than any other boot, but it would have been better if Scarpa located the instep buckle on the cuff pivot point instead of on the cuff itself. The liner is the best stock liner in any touring boot, hands down... its an Intuition Pro Tour with a little bit more beef. Its a great year for AT boots with lots of competition, but if you can get a good fit (most important thing!) in this boot, you'll love it. I am in a 27.5 and I wear size 10 running shoes.
Pros: Build quality, Great value, Cons: instep buckle no on the pivot point, a little clumsy to get in toAlready own the Scarpa Maestrale RS Alpine Touring Boots? Tell us your thoughts.
