This rugged, clean lift-friendly frontloader totes your board or skis (in either an A-frame or cross-carry configuration) plus a day's worth of snacks, liquids and extra layers. It will also work as a low-volume backcountry pack. For extra protection against metal edges, we use doubleweave ShiftLayer nylon in the heavy-duty, abrasion-resistant weight used in our wheeled luggage. The snow-shedding, stretch-woven molded-foam shoulder straps have anatomic 3D contouring and hidden tubes for the hydration pocket. A zippered "toolbox compartment" stows a shovel blade and handle. The removable foam pad may be used as a bivy seat. Imported.
- Made of the heavier-duty 420-denier Doubleweave ShiftLayer nylon fabric used in our WeatherShed wheelies. Excellent abrasion-resistance and tear strength for carrying skis or boards
- Doubleweave ShiftLayer nylon fabric combines baselayer woven under tension with floating top layer to absorb friction and reduce abrasion (in the way sock liners reduce blisters by transferring friction to harmless contact between sock-fabric layers)
- Front-loading design and slim, clean profile; can be worn on a chairlift; Unique adjustable Hypalon® tracks provide custom fit ski-carrying options
- Converts cleanly from ski-to-snowboard configuration. Unused straps double as compressions straps or hide away when not in use
- Single main compartment for layers and lunch closes with water-resistant zipper; Separate zippered "tool compartment" to stow shovel blade and handle (or other tools)
- Elastic-sleeved inner compartment holds skins, probe or smalller items; Hydration pocket holds a reservoir; insulated, zippered pocket on shoulder strap keeps tube hidden and prevents freezing; Unique slider-adjusting sternum strap has built-in safety whistle
- Snow-shedding, stretch-woven, molded-foam shoulder straps have 3D contouring with adjustable straps to keep pack close to body (thickness, width and curve of the strap all anatomically designed); Removable foam pad for use as a foldout bivy pad or seat

Very nearly perfect. Rugged fabric is very tough, never leaked. I'd never skied with a pack before, but I hardly noticed when I was wearing this with 2 liters of water in a bladder, a skinny thermos of coffee, lunch. Still had plenty of room to add/remove layers. I figure pack will pay for itself in a few days vs. paying $7 for a slice of lousy pizza at the slopes. Rock solid carrying skis A-frame or diagonally. Go to Patagonia.com and see the video, because there isn't an owner's manual.

I have been looking for an all-purpose medium sized backpack for a long time. By "all-purpose", I mean something that I can not only use on day trips in the back country with my snowboard, but also a daypack for summer use, as well as a backpack for traveling, hauling my laptop and DSLR. This pack is it! Need to keep items to essentials, but is able to function efficiently in all situations. Construction is amazingly sturdy, as all Patagonia bags. I have a Patagonia briefcase that I have used almost every day for 11 years and it is still in perfect functioning shape. I expect this pack to be the same.
