Sierra Designs redesigned the fly and floor fabric while reducing the diameter of the durable and lightweight DAC 8.5-mm. Featherlite 7001 poles, resulting in an overall combination of reduced weight that will make it a favorite among backcountry backpackers and minimalists. These measures for decreased weight also improved the packed size dimensions on the stuff sack, so you pack more into tighter, confining spaces in your backpack to save space and give you more room for the stuff you want to bring into the backcountry. This tent is lightweight for sure. I took it on a 3 day trip, and it rained all 3 days, this tent didn't leak a drop. My only complaint would be the cramped conditions.

I don't think I'd want to cram myself into this tent with another large male counterpart, but my wife and I fit fine, as long as you don't mind a little cuddling. It does a decent job of keeping rain and light snow out and staying dry inside. The (lack of lots of) weight is great, our tent has held up wonderfully for 3 seasons now, and we're very pleased.

We just got back from our first "hike in camping" and the tent was great. It was very light and very easy to put up. Hiking up here in the NW, it tends to get a little wet at times but the tent handeled great. I would definitely recommend this tent to anyone who needs a lightweight tent!

I bought this tent on sale and it was a great bargain. I went backpacking on the Appalachian Trail with it and my partner got wet in her tent because of the heavy dew, but my sister and I stayed nice and dry.

used to work in outdoor retail, and no tent company has been more innovative in tent design than Sierra Designs. In my opinion, the SD clip flashlight is the best all around 3 season backpacking tent on the market today.
The size to weight ratio and durability of the clip flashlight is second to none. By using clip-in points for the poles instead of sleeves, the airflow between the tent and rain fly is drastically increased. The tent has a generous vestibule, allowing you to keep your gear outside of the tent and protected from the elements.
One of the greatest innovations by SD is the fastpack option. All SD tents have an optional footprint designed specifically to fit each SD model. You can use the footprint with just the poles and rain fly, leaving the tent body at home to reduce weight even farther.
The only drawback to the clip flashlight is that it is not freestanding, although in my opinion the weight savings of this design greatly compensates for this inconvenience.

If you want a true 2 person tent
where you might be stuck for hours
in the rain playing cards or doing
something other than lying on your
back, I'd look elsewhere.
I use it alone and it is perfect.
I can fit all of my gear inside
if it is raining and it weighs about
as much as most 1 person tents.
If you want a roomy, lightweight
tent for solo backpacking then
this is it. For 2 people, there
are compromises.
Curmudgeon - 2006-06-30Why not lighter?
I just retired my ~20yr-old sleeve-flashlight tent. I weighed the package (i.e. pegs, bags and cords included) on a lab scale and it was 3lb, 11oz. It has netting only in the door and the rear, while this version has netting along the sides as well. Correct me if I'm wrong, but screening should be lighter than the plain fabric it replaces, shouldn't it? The old fly was urethane-coated nylon taffeta, the new fly looks like thin silicone impregnated fabric. Why, oh why then, is the package weight of this new model 11oz more than the sleeve model?? I can't see any advantage to the screening over the nylon. Most places, I want to be warmer at night, not cooler and breezier; so if the solid walls are lighter than the screened, please go back to the solid. If the clips are heavier than the sleeves, get rid of them!! What else could it be... depleted uranium pegs? Since all the other reviewers praise its lightness (Beats me why. Reviewers of the 7lb Exped Sirius 2-person tent also claim it's lightweight.), weight seems to be a significant factor in purchase decisions. Why not, at the very least, offer an alternative with sleeve inserts and other thoughtful reversions to the old, lighter model? I don't mean to diss Sierra Designs, the flashlight line is very good, and the weight problem is pretty universal in "2" person 3-season tents.

I wouldn't have traded it for any of the other tents I saw. It slept two comfortably. Kept us dry in 2003, the wettest AT year ever.

Everything is great about the tent and I mean super! But the interior sealing drop too quickly so it's only fine for sleeping really.
