Glad I bought them
March 11, 2006

Just got back from ethan pond in the white mountains New Hampshire my first winter camping trip temperatures in the single digits, whore them while sleeping, feet stayed warm ,had to get up in the night and walk through snow to get to outhouse they seemed fine. Great for hanging around in shelter or tent- but they may get wet when temp above freezing -glad I bought a pair and the price was right.

They are wonderful!

My husband absolutely loves these slippers. Every time he puts them on he makes a comment about how much he likes them.

Absolutely the BEST!!!
March 06, 2010

Hard to take these off to go back to the real world. This may be the one clothing item that we all need -- men, women, children. Cushy, warm, cozy, and totally cool! Runs small -- order a size larger than regular size.

Sierra Stonewalling
December 04, 2010

These booties look better than they are. The picture online is misleading. There is no actual loft. I ordered a pair, took them out of the box, left them out for 5 days, and they remained as flat as when I first unpacked them. Also, the sizing is off. Sierra Designs claims that for men whose size is 10 - 11, the large is the appropriate size. My shoe size is 9 1/2. I ordered the large, just to have a little extra room and loft. NOT! These booties fit like rock climbing shoes. Ouch! Avoid ‘em. Look elsewhere.

Cons: no loft, sizing is off

Great boot for a great price

This is a great down boot. It keeps my feet warm when I am outside in the cold weather. Highly recommended

sierra designs down booties
December 18, 2006

I made a winter backpack with these booties in mind for camp. They were very comfortable until they leaked through. The conditions were right above freezing with snow on the ground. I wore them by the camp fire and started noticing that the snow on the heels was melting into the down. I know that sierra desings never stated that they were waterproof so shame on me. I just thought they could handle a litte. I went ahead and replaced them with the dri zone booties by sierra designs.

Poor Sole Design
January 01, 2008

The sole of bootie offers little padding or comfort - simply a thin, flat slab of foam. The length is sized well, but the width is oversized, and makes walking difficult. I received these as a Christmas gift, and was excited to see the Altrec brand - disappointed at the lack of comfort walking on hard surface floors.

Great Value
April 25, 2009

I have an older version of these booties and love them, so I bought these for my husband. I have had mine for two years and take them with me camping anytime it's going to get chilly. They keep my feet toasty warm at camp and I even wear them inside my sleeping bag winter camping. I was pleased to see that these updated men's booties look even better than my original ones. My husband was very happy with the purchase.

Wonderful
January 07, 2006

I bought a pair for camp wear, being light, warm and packable. Now I use them around the house all the time. Soles are thick enough to use outdoors. I enjoy them so much that I gave several to family for Chrismas. Very happy with them.

Sierra Designs knows their down booties
March 02, 2011

This is my second pair of Sierra Design down booties. I once wore a pair completely to death. To this day I'm not sure what happened to them. I can't imagine I threw them away. These new booties are even better than the ones I had before. They have a better, tougher sole. I've used them a couple of weeks now and they show no wear on the bottoms from being worn all day around the house. I have every confidence they will last another 5 years at least. They are warm without being sweaty. I can keep them on until it really is warm enough to do without them. I use a light cotton sock as a liner. There is an elastic band around the ankle that keeps them on that was a little irritating at first, but now I don't notice it. Maybe it breaks in. There is an adjustable closing at the top that I don't use and don't imagine I ever will, but I'm glad to see it there anyway. If I were to do it again, I might go to their next fancier bootie, just because they are bound to be even better.

Great Booties
February 04, 2011

I love these. I got them to wear around the house in the winter and to put on when camping on cold days. I have yet to take them camping but they keep my feet toasty in the house. My feet are warmer in these then in Uggs. The only thing negative that I can say is that they appear to run a little small. I'm a size 10.5-11 and my toes are a little crunched in the large size but I can deal with it.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Great value

Kicking around...
December 14, 2006

I bought these booties to keep my feet warm and they certainly do that very well. I think my socks will last longer now that I am not walking around in them. A bit more substantial sole would allow me to walk outside in them but then I'd need another pair of booties for indoor use.

poor soles
December 19, 2005

The upper part of the boots is fine, but these do not compare with the old syle bootie that surrounded the whole foot with down. The cold comes up from the floor and the foot never gets as warm as it could with proper insulation of the sole.

Worth every penny!
March 18, 2012

Liked so much I bought a second bootie. Great to take camping in the tent, or if you just have cold feet. I bought these down booties to keep my feet warm. They really keep them toasty!

Pros: well made., true to size.

Outstanding
January 06, 2006

Light, warm in the coldest temperatures and they keep the ankles toasty. Even better was the quick response and delivery. They were on my feet two days after ordering and that was at the height of the holiday season. Great work Altrec!

only one drawback
January 20, 2010

These are the perfect indoor/tent bootie. Warmth from insulation on all sides & the bottom. The drawback: sizing is extremely small. Don't go by the sizing chart. I had to buy 2 sizes larger to get a bootie that fits.

average, but not great
May 21, 2005

These are very light weight for the backpacker trying to lower his/her winter trip total. I used them in mt Rogers wilderness area in VA. The temp was only about 33 but there was 1-2 feet of snow already packed into the mountain. After we set up camp I thought they would be comfortable to let the feet relax in after a long hike in. They were comfortable but I am a picky individual. They both soaked right through the heel into the down after a short period of time. I personally expect more out of a down bootie. Maybe you wont have this problem if the temp is colder.

A lovely bootie
February 08, 2011

I had a pair of soft-bottom Sierra Design booties that I bought in '03 that were way past their prime. I opted to replace them with these, and I've been very happy so far. The bottom of these is flexible but much more firm than my old ones. They're still ok to wear in a tent or on your driveway. You definitely don't want to wear them on any wet surfaces, however, as they'll soak through in a hurry. The draw-string is solid and the booties are very warm. They do run a bit small. I usually wear size 8-8.5 shoes, so I bought the 8.5-9.5 booties. My foot barely fits into them. Definitely buy at least a full size up if you get these.

Husband loves them!
January 04, 2011

My husband wouldn't part with his old down booties until we found something comparable. Finally, I got lucky and found these online and placed them under the Christmas tree. I didn't know if they would arrive on time for Christmas, but Altrec did an awesome job of shipping just in time. He says that his feet are even warmer now than with his last booties. I ordered a size up to make sure they would fit well, and they did. The quality is great and I highly recommend these to anyone looking for down comfort slipper booties!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

Booties
February 21, 2011

I bought these primarily to keep my feet warm around the house and they do that well. In fact, I sometimes have to pull them off about once and hour because my feet get sweaty in my socks. I think they run small in length. I wear a size 11 and the extra large fits me well, have a hard time believing a size 13 could wear the same size without stretching the material lengthwise but could be wrong. The sole material material looks like some kind of heavy ballistic cloth with rubber traction dots. If my soles show wear on the fabric, some shoe goo ought to make them last forever. The inner sole does not compress much, I don't think there is much insulation under foot. I haven't snow camped in them yet, but the draw string around the top should keep the snow from dropping into the bootie on a quick trip outside.

Pros: Great design, Ease of use

So incredibly comfortable and warm. Buy them.
February 01, 2006

Wonderful bootie. So comfy and warm. Also structurally robust. Good for inside in front of the TV and outside around the campfire.

Awesome Product
April 05, 2012

I Go to school in Rochester so when i got these, they made my day. They are literally like sleeping bags for your feet. The quality is great and they are very warm, squishy and comfortable. The rubber on the bottom ads nice traction for when you have to walk around out side, and the elastic top makes it so you can nicely seal in all of the heat. I am a size 7/7.5 and the small's fit very nicely and were sung.

Lackluster
February 03, 2006

I was happy with the quality. Well made booties filled with plush down to keep my feet toasty. The fit was also great. Although when it came to performance, SD fell short. These soles on these booties soak up water (melted snow) like a sponge. As long as you're not planning to use them in snow, I bet their great. If you can get a hold of Mountain Hardwear's version (discontinued), I'd recommend them....not their polarguard version....find the ones with down, their worth it.

Just Ok
January 29, 2011

I bought these about a month ago for wear around the house. I bought large thinking they would a worst be a little big, but they run smaller than I thought and I just fit into them. They are warm, and nice for slippers, but I would not wear them outside.

Cons: poor fit

awesome booties, durable, warm and lightweight, great value
January 03, 2007

these down booties are an outstanding value, lightweight and extremely warm, I look forward to sliding my feet into them after a long, wet, and cold day of fishing offshore for striped bass in december and janurary. They also stowe nicely in my gear bag, I dont leave the dock without them.

Great booties
November 29, 2011

I bought these for my husband, who has chronically cold feet. He finds them to be the warmest he has ever found. He really like the foam footpad - much warmer than others he's had - and softer on the foot, too. Sturdy enough to wear to the mailbox, but comfortable enuf to wear inside all day. The upper has a cloth cuff that runs down inside the bootie, providing a softer feel and added warmth.

Great value, well made, very warm!
March 13, 2006

I love these down booties!! They are great for winter camping and I have slept in them. They have kept my poor cold, old tired feet toasty!

Above average down booties
January 03, 2007

My husband lives in his down booties--the only ones that help soothe circulation problems. I've tried many brands over the years and these are the best. It's true the soles wear out quickly (when worn daily). Hence I buy 2 pairs a year (and unvoid his solution of electrical tape repairs). I already know what to get next Christmas -- 2 more pairs of down booties!

Warm but feel a little strange
March 16, 2006

Not having purchased a pair of booties with a "hard" sole before, these Sierra Desings booties were a new experience. Warmth: Overall, high marks for warmth, they do the trick, at least around a cold Colorado household in the dead of winter. Fit/Comfort: My foot is exactly the size of the bottom sole of the booties which means that my toes often move off the edge of the firm part of the sole so I find that my foot tries to grip the sole to keep the booties on. Obviously, they aren't falling off but my reaction to feeling the supported part of the booties slipping is to grip my toes. I don't believe ordering a larger size would have been better since I would then be tripping over the excess, but I won't ever know. The only minor criticisms I have is that the outer sole material is lighterweight than I expected and I can't imagine it would take much walking around a campground before that material would tear or wear out, also the inner elastic sleeve that grips the lower ankle is a little tight, but maybe I should put my ankles on a diet. Overall, I'm happy with this purchase, although as I feel my feet sweating in them, I do wish they had a washable liner, I guess that's what socks are for...

Awesome
February 26, 2006

Light weight and super warm. Would recommend to anyone heading out on a winter camping trip.

Very Nice & Warm!
January 04, 2010

These things are great! I have a 9.5 size foot, and unfortunately I ordered a medium (they were a little tight despite what the sizing chart claims).. but that was ok, because they fit my girlfriend fine and they are great, so I ordered another pair for myself in large. Worth the money... twice!

SOO warm and comfortable
December 13, 2009

I purchased these booties and when I put them on I could immediately feel the warmth on my cold feet. After you wear them for a few minutes your feet feel like they have been put inside an electric foot warmer..These Booties are the BEST !!! Great product.. You will be glad you bought them on the first really cold windy night.

Wear out too fast
January 02, 2006

These booties are great to keep you warm, but after a couple of winters the bottoms begin to shred. Guess I'll have to buy another pair!

Nice but could be better
March 06, 2006

I have bought three pairs of this product; I do like them--actually, I like the concept more than the execution. The reason that I have bought three pairs of the Sierra Design Down Booties is that the soles wear out so quickly. If the soles were more durable--and I mean far more durable--I would not have to buy new ones every six months.

Warm!
December 25, 2005

I am currently in Afghanistan serving the military as a contractor, and in my little self made room it gets really really cold. I ordered these so that I could get around witout freezing or wearing my work boots all the time. These are warm, and dry, the lanyard at the top really keeps things in place. I recomend ordering a size over for nice thick sox, the sox are not to stay warm, but to keep the slipper boots clean and sweat free. Good boots for a cold night!

Warm and comfortable
December 11, 2010

Booties keep my feet warm even with a drafty floor. Soles block cold even on a cold walking surface. Height of booties keep ankles/lower shins warm, which helps to keep feet warm. Appears they will last a long time. To be right, better get one size bigger than the size chart says. Then they fit with the proper wiggle room.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value, Cons: runs small

Finally Found a pair
March 17, 2006

I was very excited to receive the boots after 20 yrs. of looking and designing my own. I would change the bottom sidewall to be firmer. My foot interior slides too much. I love how warm they are. Real down feathers. In wisconsin it can be cold. Easy to slip on. Can even go out to get the mail. Thanks

I have a pair of Kelty XL down booty's I've had for 25 years and love them. The bottom was starting to wear through on a place or two so I thought I would get a new pair. I did some research and thought I would get a pair of Sierra Downs. WOW was I disappointed! Not near as much down, the sizing was on the small side, my foot reaches beyond the end so the heal feels like it's hanging out. The sad part is that I have new ones, but the 25 year old ones are far superior. I looked for the Kelty brand but could not find. I would not buy another pair of Sierra Downs after what I have had. I should send them back!

August 20, 2011

these down booties are much smaller than the size listed. men's XL is really about a size 10 mens. They run small. also there is an annoying cuff inside near the ankle, which makes them less comfortable. they are not super warm, compared to other down booties, and the sol;e padding is not great. color was brighter than shown on web site.

Toasty
November 24, 2009

I was using an electric blanket to keep my feet warm in the basement while at my computer. I bought these hoping I could ditch the blanket. They work!! Very warm and everyone is right they run a bit small so get the next size up.

Not what I had hoped for. Quality suspect.
January 16, 2006

Haven't left the house with them on and they've easily torn at a seem and gotten small holes where the down leaks. Very disappointed.

Great!
March 09, 2010

These are very toasty. Run a little smaller than the previous ones we had. My husband wears a size 9 shoe and ordered a L. (M was too small so we had to exchange) But very warm!

Wear them from time I get home to the time I get up.
September 14, 2008

Have permanently cold feet. Put them on when I get home from work, sleep with them on - take them off to shower and dress in the morning. Keep a couple extra pair on stand-by. Best slippers ever!

Gotta love 'em
January 25, 2006

I love these things. Sure, they're a little warm around the house when it's warm and the tread is a little light, but that's how they're made. One thing that would be nice is a soft liner inside, but I guess socks do fine.

November 01, 2010

I bought these for my wife to replace a pair of similar booties that I had given her 10 years ago. the first pair were much bulkier and made the cats nervous when they rubbed together. The Sierras are quieter and much smaller in girth. Despite the smaller bulk, she says they are at least as warm and she loves them. So thank you Sierra designs!

December 11, 2005

The only problem with these booties is that they may be too warm. They are great on cold mornings in the backcountry, or to ensure you don't get cold feet at night, but if you are just looking for slippers to wear around the house, this product is overkill.

These booties are everything I expected. Do remember that they run small. I usually wear a woman's size 7 1/2 to 8. I ordered a men's large and they fit perfect. They are very warm and comfortable. I also like the non-slip sole. I would definitely buy another pair.

bad sizing, no loft
January 13, 2011

I had read in some of the reviews that the sizing on these ran small, so I ordered a size larger than I normally would. They were still too small. My toes were crammed in them. Also, they have no loft. I am used to down products that fluff up and get nice and puffy. These were flat. I can't comment on their durability as I sent them back immediately. Luckily, with Altrec returning them was simple.

Sizing
October 13, 2009

The booties are great! I bought them for my dad and he loves them! The sizing is a little off so you need to make sure you purchase a size bigger than what they would wear in a normal shoe size otherwise they'll be too tight.

Exactly right
March 11, 2008

I bought them for my husband, because I have a pair and love them, and he wanted some for himself. We wear them indoors all Winter long, because we don't wear shoes indoors but needed protection from cold, hard floors, winterly blasts coming in under the doors, and little things that fall on the floor and are no fun to step on. These are warm and comfortable, never too hot, always cozy, make cold feet only a distant memory. We both got them in black, which gives them more of a dignified look, not exactly slippers.

Very comfortable

Just what I wanted to keep my feet warm inside. People have criticized the soles, but I didn't expect to be able walk outside with them.

Good, but not great

I took these down booties out winter camping a couple times in Montana and Wyoming near Yellowstone National Park and they were alright, but nothing spectacular. They were comfortable and my feet loved them after being in boots all day. But, they need more down to truly keep toes toasty. Good thing I have nice thick wool socks, cause otherwise I would've been jumping into my bag a lot sooner.

Fits well, not too snug at the ankle (which was a problem I had with the North Face Nuptse III Down Booties). Seem to be plenty warm, but I've only worn them around my cold house, not at a winter campsite yet. I shopped a lot on the web and these seemed to be the best combo of high down loft (700 fill) and price.

Pros: Great value

Warm at last!

I have peripheral neuropathy so i wanted a bootie which was soft, warm, roomy and yet tough enough to endure a little chewing from my dog. This bootie has fulfilled all my needs. On the advice of another reviewer i bought a size large even though i would ususally wear a mens small, and it fits perfectly. Apparently they run really small.

I purchased these down booties to replace the ones my husband had for over 20 years. They had hole in the soles and he was not longer able to use them. They were a birthday gift and he was thrilled to get them, until he tried them on. They were too small so I had to return them and get a larger size. So they are not true to size.

Pros: these down booties are warm and comfortable., they should be durable and last several years., my husband was thrilled to replace his old booties, Cons: they were not true to size so need to be returned., i had to pay for return shipping and insurance.

comfortable, form fitting
