Volkl Men's Gotama Ski:
This is the one that started the twin-tip revolution in the backcountry, and today's Volkl Gotama remains one of the best. The Gotama is a lively, powder-punching, crud-busting design that takes to the deepest powder caches with excellent response. While the Gotama name is almost old school, Volkl recently tweaked their Power construction for a little more rigidity when you hit patches of hardpack or wind-scored old snow. This gives you slightly better power transmission when you need to make turns in tight spots. If you hit big mountains like Whistler or places in Europe, the Gotama has the right stuff to handle the transitions through changing snow conditions (just stay off the slalom course--those short arc turns can hurt). Like other skis in the Volkl freeride series, the Gotama ski has the same tip-to-tail Sensorwood/multilayer core and wood sidewalls for excellent flex. Volkl balanced this agile core profile with their slightly stiffer Power Construction design to keep you completely in control wherever you need to go. Keep in mind that this version doesn't include bindings. If you're looking for suggestions, Volkl pairs their skis with Marker bindings and they like the iPT Wide Ride series.
