Whether your hike is a short Saturday morning getaway or a multi-day go-light excursion, the SmartWool Hiking Light Crew sock cares for your feet every step of the way. The SmartWool Hiking Light Crew sock's dedication to foot comfort is further demonstrated by the inclusion of sole area cushioning and a spandex reinforced arch brace that holds the sock in place and supports the foot.

Great Socks
August 15, 2011

I have two pairs of these socks. Used them on two trips recently. The first trip, to Northern Utah, we hiked over 27 miles in four days and on the second trip, to Southern Idaho, I did a short 6 mile hike. The socks performed well. It was hot on both trips but my feet stayed fairly cool and dry. I wore the socks on multiple days on the 4 day trip with no detectable foot odor. The only problem were a few stray strands on my second pair of socks. They did not seem to get worse with wear though, so not a big problem. I will strongly consider other SmartWool products in the future.

Pros: Great design, Performance, comfortable

Nice socks.
January 27, 2010

This is my first experience with Smartwool socks, and I'm mostly satisfied. I wore them cross-country skiing one day and my feet stayed warm and dry. I wore normal socks the next time, and my feet stayed warm and dry. Overall, a nice product and worth the price.

Performance & value
June 04, 2010

Smartwool socks provide comfortable cushioning w/out being excessive or bunching, perform even when wet, regulate temperature, protect from developing blisters. Comfortable as light hikers or for daily wear. Use Heavy Trekking or Mountaineering line for backpacking (don't ask too much of the medium line).

Smart Wool hits a home run again! These are wonderful. I am using them as daily winter socks, not a liner, and they are perfect. They are high enough that you do not see skin when your slacks slide up a bit but not so high as to be annoying. The elastic is just enough to stay up without cutting off the circulation. They wear and wash wonderfully.

You Can't Go Wrong With These
June 25, 2011

Smartwool makes the best socks period! They are high quality and durable. Great for summer hikes and just wearing around town in the cooler months. They keep your feet dry when moisture gets in the boot and they don't stretch out and lose their shape. I have them in the grey and the taupe.

Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, Great value

i bought my son-in-law a pr of this brand of sock a year or 2 ago. he's a person of few words but he wanted to know where i got them as he said how much he really liked these sox - they're the best! "the best of any sox i've ever had!" he works outside (in a cold climate); but they're comfortable winter or summer. "i can't quite explain what it is about them" he said, "they just FEEL good!" so i got him 3 pr for christmas 2007. i'll keep these on my list for him for future reference for sure.

Great All Around Sock
August 17, 2010

Love Smartwool products. I use them for everything, they hold up to all the abuse I can throw at them. Easy care, and amazing comfort.

Performs and then some
August 30, 2010

I live, work and play in the French Alps. This sock is very comfortable, wicks moisture, and keeps substantial thermal properties even when wet. Ideal for every day use, trail running, as well as light hiking (day hikes). Use thicker socks for backpacking, but these Hiker light crew Smartwool socks are better than many non-Smartwool 'backpacking' socks.

Bought these socks for my boyfriend and he wears them in his boots when he's out fly fishing on the Deschutes. He loves them! They keep his feet warm but not hot.

Outstanding product
July 08, 2010

My wife and i each bought a pair of the socks and we wore them for the first time during our recent cruise to Alaska. We wore them for two days, our feet did not get hot in our winter boots and the moisture was wicked away. We did not have to change socks for two days. Awesome product.

Excellent Sock, Fits Well
November 13, 2011

I have wear 8.5 size shoes I I have a hard time finding sock that fits from common large superstores. Not only do these fit well but they are also well made. I live in the mountains and cotton just doesn't cut it. We call cotton the death fabric. Wool clothing is the way to go for mountain clothing.

really comfortable socks
August 11, 2010

I purchased these socks for hiking, but they are so comfortable that I have been wearing them everyday. The seam above the toes is thin and neat, I don't notice it like in other socks. They wick moisture away and dry pretty fast when wet. I have size 11 feet and the sizing chart was spot on. I have already recommended these to my friends.

Great all around sock
June 02, 2012

I have used this sock for on duty use in very harsh and rugged environments and terrain. When it does get wet it drys quick and is ready to be worn again. Only thing is I washed this sock with my uniform and the velcro got stuck to it and pulled a good amount of thread out. My bad I know, cant blame the sock for that mistake. But all around I would trust these socks for what I use them for and plan on buying tons more.

Favorite Socks
October 13, 2011

Apparently these are hiking socks but the majority of times I've worn them have been to work and on the weekends doing nothing particular active. They're also my go-to socks for hiking but they're so comfortable and not super bulky, I wear them all of the time.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

Nice Socks
October 30, 2006

I was concerned that these wouldn't be as comfortable as the thicker ones at the end of the day. They are! These socks have proven to me that the quality of the sock makes as much a difference as the thickness of it. I still love my heavier hiking socks but these work great too and work with my more formal shoes as well.

March 10, 2011

It is odd to sing the praises of socks, but these smartwool socks are so comfortable that I have turned them into my everyday socks unless it is so warm I go sockless. A good friend saw me wearing these socks with crocks and he said "man. you're walking on clouds". I agree.

December 26, 2008

I'm very impressed with these socks; they are so comfortable. I've used them for hiking and for everyday wear and they are fantastic. They feel smooth and dry all day long. They seem to regulate the temperature just right. The only downside is the cost. I definitely recommend.

My husband loves these socks! They are not too heavy, which is a must for summer hiking, and yet they work well for in in town use year round. Of course they provide the superb comfort that one expects from Smartwool products.

Fantastic Socks
April 02, 2011

After having a rather poor hiking experience with cold wet cotton socks, I knew I needed to upgrade to something more suitable. I picked up these on sale and I am very impressed. A pair of these socks are totally worth the investment as they are comfy, fit perfectly, look great, and certainly hold up better in wet conditions. In addition they do not have that extreme thickness that other wool socks have, so my feet are not hot and sweaty.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance

Excellent socks
June 04, 2010

Very comfortable and wicks away perspiration nicely. The only sock I wear in the summer. I generally wash these nightly at camp and they are dry before morning. Overall an excellent hiking sock.

Great socks!
February 12, 2008

These are perfect when it's cold and you're gonna be active and moving around. They are thin but very comfortable. They keep your feet quite dry and don't stink up nearly as quickly as regular cotton socks. If it's really cold and you're just sitting around though, I find them to not be warm/thick enough, but that's not really what these are made for.

Stellar socks!
October 20, 2010

What more is there to say? Classic all-around wool socks for hiking or casual wear! They don't get any better than this! You get what you pay for. My only gripe about these socks isn't with the socks themselves but with Smartwool's sizing. At size 8/8.5, I'm between sizes. With all other manufacturers, I'm a solid MEDIUM. The medium Smartwools tend to fit me better than the large.

Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: Cost

November 04, 2011

Still Solid Socks
October 25, 2011

Hard to beat the consistency of Smartwool hikers. I've had some of their other socks that have worn out (too) quickly, but I've never had an issue with the hiker line. They hold their shape, and hold warmth well. Hard to beat a classic.

Pros: Performance

I Keep Buying More
May 30, 2008

These socks are so great that whenever I need more socks I buy more of these. Eventually they may be nearly the only type of sock I own. Along with thin liners, I wear them in plastic climbing boots. I've also worn them cross country skiing many times, paired them up with trail running shoes, and on cool days I wear them to work. They're very versatile and super comfortable.

another convert to Smartwool
December 13, 2009

My husband is very particular about his socks and he loves these. He wears them when he works outdoors. I convinced him to try them because I wear the same socks in a smaller size. They feel so good, hold up well, and come out of the wash like new.

The best
September 14, 2009

Smartwool makes the best outdoor socks I've come across and the light crew is my pick for year round use. They're comfortable, durable, keep your feet dry, and they don't bunch up. Any time I bought another brand to save a few bucks I regretted it.

Favorites
January 14, 2010

I've tried many different types of socks and these are the best of the best for hiking. Slide a pair of these over some SW liner socks and you have the finest combination around. On the opposite side of the spectrum, I highly recommend the SW PHD Outdoor Light Micro Socks.

These socks are light. They are best suited for warmer weather. The tops of the socks are quite thin, but the heel and toe cushioning are still there. Smartwool makes the best socks for hiking/running I have found.

January 20, 2007

Great fit, super comfortable;these socks are so superior to regular cotton socks because the inner lining keeps my feet warm and dry. Highly recommended!!!

Worst choice
April 29, 2010

I was in Peru for 3 weeks earlier this month and got stranded in the Andes. I had to climb and then hike only 8.5km to reach a town, along the RR tracks. An easy hike, normally. I did that in 2 hours. But these "Smartwool" socks were NOT up to it. I got very large blisters, one of which bled (I have photographic proof). When I got into town, it felt like I had fine gravel in my hiking boots. It was actually the blisters. Before leaving, I tried to find pure wool socks, but could find only these overpriced ones. TO BE AVOIDED except for very light duty.

Outdoor socks
December 06, 2011

I like the comfort of these socks. The fit and the fabric are both good. They dry fast after washing. But they do not fit as well or feel as comfortable as the Smartwool PhD Outdoor socks in corresponding weights, which I have learned work better for hiking as well as other activities including unspecified daily (and nightly) activities. They all last a long time. Turning them inside out before washing seems to keep them softer longer.

Nice socks, small fit
June 21, 2011

These are very comfortable socks that are made to last. However, if you are in between sizes on Smartwool's chart, like I am (size 9), you might find that medium is a bit snug and large is too big. I figured I'll go with the mediums to avoid blisters. Overall, these are high quality socks, as are all Smartwool socks.

Great Light Hiking Socks
April 20, 2011

Having tried other brands, these are my preferred socks for hiking. These socks keep my feet feeling great. They are not too thick so I don't have to buy larger hiking shoes/boots to accomodate these socks. Highly recommended.

Pros: Build quality, Performance, Ease of use

Very confortable socks!
April 24, 2008

Don't be distracted by how thin these socks are; they are very comfortable and work great in Florida's cold weather. However, in really cold weather, I would not recommend these socks. I use them in the summer (FL), and they keep my feet fairly dry. Overall, EXCELLENT!

My Favorite Socks
February 22, 2007

Although they are relatively thin, the Hiking Light Crew wicks moisture effectively thus helping to keep my feet warm even when I'm hiking in the snow. They look quite nice too, so I often wear them to work. In fact, they're always the first pair of socks I grab after doing a load of wash. They're quite versatile - perfect for summer day hikes or winter casual wear. I also like the spandex arch brace. It really does help to hold the sock in place.
