Really Comfortable and not too warm socks
December 27, 2007
I'm a CERT (Community Emergency Response Team)member and needed a good pair of thick socks to wear with boots that hurt my feet. When I added the SmartWool Trekking Heavy Crew socks--no more hurt feet! They are so comfortable and keep my feet warm without becoming too hot. I'm going to order more and would reccommend these to anyone.

Best socks ever
June 29, 2011
I love these socks so much that I wish I had a dozen pairs. I bought some for my boss this past Christmas. He's an attorney but spends many hours working outside on his seven acres of property. I actually gave him half a dozen things for Christmas but the only thing he thanked me for were the socks. He said, you are right, your feet stay much warmer and more comfy in those socks! Anyway, buy a pair, you'll reach for them every time you put on your hiking boots!Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Great value
Very Comfortable and WARM!
January 27, 2010
I bought 3 pairs. 2 light weight and 1 heavy! These socks fit my feet perfectly and provide lots of support and warmth. I will be getting more!
Smartwool is comfortable but wears out super-quick
November 08, 2009
They wear out super fast: These feel good but cost a fortune and mine wear out in a very few weeks and develop holes everywhere---and I don't have any of the problems/multiple excuses the company offers for this wear out--Blogs and protests have complained about this problem--I wrote Smartwool to respond and make good on their online "commitment" to replace a few of these one month ago and never even got an answer--I'm curious if this "pro-Smartwool" commercial site will even allow this response to appear: I wrote a similar one and it never saw the light of day--only the rave reviews appeared.

Very soft and cushioned and the inside is fluffy. I use these socks because I have foot injuries and they offer the best cushions for my feet and feel great.
November 04, 2007
I'm a delivery driver in a brown truck and I'm out in all kinds of weather during winter such as snow, slush, cold rain and these Smartwool socks are excellent. My feet stay as dry as possible and my feet never get too hot. The wool is very comfortable, durable, easy care and I never get blisters. The best all around socks for cold weather.

Love these socks!
October 18, 2010
These socks are very comfortable, and really resist odors. I wore them for two days straight, just to test them out. I didn't want to take them off, but did, for hygiene. Normally, I can smell my cotton socks after just one day of use, but with these, I couldn't even smell any odor after two days of use! Highly recommended.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Cons: Cost
Another quality piece from Smartwool!

I'm a great fan of smartwool, especially of their PhD socks. Very comfortable fit, true to the size; even though they're thick cushioned, your feet stay dry in any temperature. I would recommend this product for hiking or simply for everyday use. I bought these for my trip to Kilimanjaro but the feel great and fit awesome. Overall, a solid product! Great Product! Highly Recommend!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
Best thing Since sneakers !

First thing, I rarely give any thing five stars. These socks are the best, bar none. Im 6 ft. 200 lbs. ware a size 10/10.5 shoe. This sock in large fits me great. I own at least 6 pair of smartwool socks some over two years old and I havent worn a pair out yet. These are not your fathers wool socks. They slide on like a dream and wash and dry and dont shrink. This pair here are their trekking heavy crew socks and I use them in the winter when there is a lot of snow. No need for anything else as far as socks go, they keep my feet warm. You get what you pay for with these socks, there worth the money!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Great value

These are definitely the most comfortable hiking socks I've owned. The inside lining is so fuzzy and feels great against the skin. I only wish they were a bit taller...might be a bit short if you've got very tall mountaineering boots, but should be fine with hiking boots.
my most comfortable socks, ever!
December 13, 2009
These socks provide the cushion and comfort I was looking for. I'm 66 years old and foot comfort has become increasingly important as I age. I've been using Smartwool Hiking Medium Crew for years, but these heavier socks take comfort to a new level.
Warm and comfy

The SmartWool Trekking Heavy Crew is very capable in cold weather hiking. Both my wife and I have use the Heavy Crew in temperatures at and below freezing. Together with a quality hiking boot, these socks provide continuous comfort and warmth for both short and long hikes. The wicking layer keeps the moisture away from your feet, keeping them very comfortable.
Dependable backpacking socks

You can skip the liner with these socks. They can get little hot during summer days but wicks moisture really well to keep your feet dry.

I wear these socks year round and have been singing their praises to my husband for several years. He finally decided he had to try them and he LOVES them. I've never seen him so excited by socks! He likes the soft insides, the cushioning and the warmth without the sweat on his feet. I have narrow, boney feet and these wonderfully cushion my feet from wear and tear. Just be sure to turn them inside out when you wash them or they get some pilling over time. I would recommend these to every one!
Perfect Socks for cold weather
October 31, 2011
Great socks. plenty of cushion, keeps your feet warm, fits well, doesnt lose shape. I wear these socks around the house during the winter. (my house is very very cold ~55F) and occasionally outside with leather lined boots or moccasins. These work perfect in keeping my feet warm. They do not lose shape, I have been wearing them over a week straight.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Great value
great for multi-day backpacking
July 08, 2009
I love Smartwool, and I love these socks. I recently wore them backpacking for several days straight, and they stayed cushy, dry, odor-free, and kept their shape the whole time. My boots got a little wet on the inside when I crossed a stream, but these socks drew the moisture away from my feet. Since it was their first time out, they got a little pilly on the outside, but otherwise great performance.

This sock is heavy-duty yet comfortable; great for cold weather.
Excellent cold weather hiking sock
August 09, 2010
I bought 5 pairs of these when the price dropped to $11 with the additional 25% savings. Outstanding heavyweight hiking sock. I was concerned about the elasticity with the high (80% wool) mix. It hasn't been a problem yet. If it becomes a problem I can easily solve it by buying a $4 spool of elastic at the yarn store and cut elastic support anklets. I use a liner and the wicking capability with and without the liner are phenomenal. Feet have been toasty and dry during a cool weather hike near Beckley in West Virginia. Highly recommend.
November 24, 2011

December 07, 2009
Shopped around for the best price for thick smart wool socks. I've had these same socks for three or four or five years and it was time to replace them. The new ones are exactly the same and incredibly soft, cushy and comfortable. I'll be in them all winter.
