An orthodontist by profession, Dr. Bob Smith, full of entrepreneurial spirit and equipped with delicate dental tools, began making snow goggles around his kitchen table in Sun Valley, Idaho. After much success in the local ski community, Dr. Smith signed a deal for the manufacturing of Smith Goggles and Smith Optics, Inc was formed in 1965 with the introduction of the first goggle featuring a sealed thermal lens and breathable foam ventilation.
