Tends to run slightly small. If you are in between sizes, it would be in your best interest to size up half a size.

I love these boots!
January 13, 2011
These boots are wonderful. They fit great and keep my feet warm and dry. I agree with other reviewers that said the calf is a bit snug and they fit with a thinner sock. If you want to wear a thick sock(but not really needed) order a size up. I'm happy that I purchased the zipper instead of the laces b/c I can get in and out of them quickly when needed. Also I wanted to mention that they are not that clunky at all. I thought they would be from the picture but they feel like my Merrels.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Cons: snug around the calf
January 31, 2005
I've worn these boots a couple of times so far and our temperatures have been in the teens. Whether I stepped in snow, or ice water not only did the boots keep me dry but also very warm.
A warm winter boot
February 11, 2007
The boot is perfect for snowy weather. They are warm and waterproof. However, I wouldn't want to do a lot of walking or hiking in them, they are not made with a lot of support. I ordered a 1/2 size bigger-that fit well. I would recommend them.
December 26, 2007
Purchased these boots for a vacation in snowy Vermont. I normally wear a size 10 so I ordered a 10 and a 10.5. I decided to keep the 10. They only just fit in terms of length but the 10.5 seemed too wide especially around the ankle and heel. Very warm and waterproof and have fantastic grip. I love the grey color!
February 15, 2006
This boot is made extremely well. It is high quality and very warm.
Great all-around winter boot
January 10, 2010
Just received these, followed previous advice to buy a half size larger for toe room. Glad I did. Want to say these are even nicer, better, more serious boots than I had anticipated. They're built to keep your feet warm. Beautifully designed and made. I plan to love these boots.
Pretty good boot.
December 04, 2008
I ordered a 6.5, which is what I wear in Adidas tennis shoes and Asics running shoes. However, I wish I had ordered a half size bigger because there is only room for a lightweight sock in the boot. The boot feels like is should be able to take a beating, but it's very stiff right now. I'm hoping it'll break in good.
These boots are exactly what I was looking for!
March 18, 2007
They are extremely warm and so easy to pull on. I needed a boot to run errands in snowy and slushy conditions. They fit the bill.
December 31, 2009
I am a California Girland headed to Boston for 2 months. I needed something real warm and had a lot of anxiety about this fear of the cold. I tried the boots out in Big Bear last weekend, and felt no cold as others were going inside because their feet were cold. I ordered my usual size and they fit great! Love them.
May 14, 2009
These boots are warm and very comfortable. It took a few times wearing them to fully break in, but now they are more comfortable and I expect to be wearing them for years to come.
Great protection from cold but an itchy cuff
January 16, 2008
My feet are warm but unless you wear long socks that stay up the calf cuffs are fairly itchy.
January 13, 2011
These came just in time for the historic winter storm in Atlanta so I have had lots of opportunity to put them to the test. I am very happy with these boots and will be packing them when I travel to the northeast on business this winter. The fit is perfect, I wear a size 6 shoe and ordered the size 6 boot. The side zipper makes getting them on and off easy, and I have had no problem with the zipper staying up. I consider myself an average size person and there is room around the top of the boot to tuck in my jeans. These boots are very warm. I wore light weight socks and walked in 20 degree weather in snow for long periods and my toes were toasty. The water proofing also works. No wet feet so far but this snow has not started melting yet. The boots are a little heavy, but that is probably because of the thick soles. But it is worth it for the traction they deliver. I love these boots.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Great value
Excellent winter boot
February 05, 2007
I am extremely pleased with this boot. I found it to be true to size in my case (8.5), waterproof, warm, sturdy and comfortable. It's a bit stiff walking in it, but it's not meant for hiking, it's a snow boot and it performs perfectly in that capacity.
Absolutely Brilliant boot. Can't remember life before I had them
May 26, 2008
Super Warm and comfy - and light enough to wear everyday around town with my jeans. Classy enough to wear to work - (a very cold nightclub). Durable enough to wear through ankle deep mud. Just hose when you get home. Stick in front of the fire, and they are dry by morning. I'm using these for an inland Australian Winter Near the snow. -4c overnight at work . Really Love the soft suade exterior. Oh, and I ordered half a size bigger and probably shouldn't.
January 06, 2008
Used them for snowshoeing in sub-zero weather last week. Kept dry and warm and are a comfortable all around winter boot.
Warm and comfortable.
February 12, 2008
Very practical and warm. My feet stayed dry the whole time.
2nd pair of Sorels
December 12, 2010
I still have my first pair of Sorels that were purchased 25 years ago. They are still in good condition, but I wanted something that would perform as well and for as long, but lighter weight. The Waterfall Snowboot fit the bill, and the zipper makes in and out faster than the laces of my first pair. The size is true to fit, with room for thicker winter socks; more comfortable than my first Sorels - waterproof and warm, what a deal!Pros: Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: Cost
Too big, had to return
February 21, 2011
These are beautiful boots, and the quality is great. I pulled them out of the box and tried them on. Even with thick socks, they were too big. I read the other reviews that say these boots run small, and that's why I bought the half size bigger. They do not run small. They are true to size. It's too bad I could not keep them because they were too big, because overall they were great boots. They were easy for me to zip up..great with skinny jeans or leggings. The reason I will not buy the smaller size YET is because winter season is pretty much over where I am. I will most likely wait until late October to purchase these.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Ease of use, Great value
January 08, 2011
This boot looks great and is very warm. It is a tight squeeze getting on though. I have a high arch and it would have been nice if the gusset made a little wider opening.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Great value
Practical, not cute at all
March 17, 2011
I got these to replace a Keen Hofn boot which did not keep my feet warm, pull on well, or look good above the ankle (cheap cuff). The only reason I kept them is because I can get them on OK (not great, even with the zipper), and I feel bad returning things too often. They keep my feet warm, are comfortable enough, and are OK for my wide feet. But I don't think they look nice at all. The Keen boot at least looked great poking out under pants or jeans, but these are just clunky and oddly proportioned. The ankles and upper foot part bulge out wider than the sole - the shape is not nice at all (not even as nice as a classic rubber Sorel). The black suede looks scuffed right out of the box, and very worn after just a few outings. For this price, I would expect both form and function!Pros: warm
April 11, 2011
I do have wide feet and my feet get too warm, so I was a little worried buying women's winter boots. These look tidy, they fit my feet without being too floppy even when I just wear regular socks and my feet don't get too warm. They look nice under jeans or other pants with a bit of heft to them (khakis or a wider leg) but I wouldn't say they are "dress shoes" which seemed to be a bone of contention with a few other commenters. I wore these in the winter in Green Bay, WI and was nicely warm. I didn't walk in puddles so I can't really speak to the waterproof quality yet, but despite the snow and ice on the ground at the time, they look new still. I also have shorter legs and so my calves are larger, these zip up and stay up, but I don't wear long, thick socks underneath. Just regular ankle length woolens. I like!
Sorel Waterfall Boots
April 18, 2011
The Sorel Waterfall boots are just what I was looking for...comfortable, stylish, very warm. , not too heavy to pack. Can't really give them the acid test yet as it is spring, not winter, but in wearing them on cool nights I can easily see they are what I need, especially comfort-wise. Caution: if you have a high instep, you will need a half size larger than you wear in a shoe, otherwise they are hard to get on. I love the fact that the toe box is ample, the heel snug. My foot is a true 7 medium, and I had to get the 7 1/2 med. just to be able to get them on...glad I did, for it allows for a warm sock.
Perfect except for the zipper
February 23, 2008
Overall I love these boots. It's been an extremely cold and snowy month in Iowa and I've worn them almost daily. Very warm and comfortable with good traction. I usually wear a 9 - 9.5. Ordered the 9.5 and it fits well. The only thing that stops this boot from being a 5 star rating is the zipper--it angles from the front toward the back and is extremely awkward to close. This was my first purchase from Altrec and I am very happy with the service and shipping speed. Thank you!
Don't let the size tip fool you!
January 11, 2010
I ordered a 6 after reading the size tip, then came back to the site and read the customer reviews about the size... so I then placed another order to get a 5.5 (my regular size). I didn't even take the 6 out of the box and the 5.5 feels like I could even get a 5! But I'm sticking w/ the 5.5 if I wear big wool socks they fit good. Very comfy & warm either way!
good for snow
November 29, 2004
Warm and comfortable.
January 03, 2007
They do run at least one shoe size small. Very warm, love them.
Practical, not cute at all
March 17, 2011
I got these to replace a Keen Hofn boot which did not keep my feet warm, pull on well, or look good above the ankle (cheap cuff). For this price, I would expect both form and function!Pros: comfortable, Cons: hard to get on, unattractive shape, fabric wears badly
February 08, 2008
I just purchased these boots and after just a couple of times wearing them, I know that they will be my favorite winter boots. They fit snugly around the ankle and were a little challenging putting on the first time, but by the second time, no problem. The snug fit in the ankle gives much needed support in the slippery and snowy conditions. I ordered the alpine tundra color and they match the picture perfectly. I ordered my usual size and they fit perfectly as well - no need to order a size up or down. They arrived right on time - I only wish that I had them earlier this winter!
great boot, watch sizing
January 06, 2006
This is a warm and comfortable boot, although not squishy and fluffy. Good support but barely enough height for someone with a high arch. Also, watch the sizing. I tried on a Sorel 'Caribou' model in a shop to make sure I got the right size from an online purchase (no 'Waterfall's available in my area)...but this model runs about 1/2 size smaller than the Caribou, and it's just barely big enough.
December 29, 2009
Wonderful fit (I ordered a 1/2 size bigger). Even in the recent 20" snowfall with lots of outside time shoveling, my feet stayed wonderfully warm. And they are so comfortable.
February 06, 2007
I am very impressed with the warmth of these boots. I was worried about the sizing though. Other reviews had said they run a little small, so I ordered a half size larger than my normal size, however, they turned out to be a little big on me. I averted this by just wearing a thicker pair of socks, and they fit just great! Very comfortable for walking and VERY warm.
April 05, 2009
I'm really pleased with my new boots. These boots are really warm and soft inside. They also are definitly waterproof. I live in Alaska and now the snow is melting fast so it it is very wet and slushy outside. My feet are staying nice and warm and dry! Great boots. Thanks!
November 30, 2010
These boots are warm and comfortable. They really do keep your feet warm and dry in -20 temperatures. As stated in other reviews, I would recommend going a half size larger.Pros: Performance, Ease of use, Cons: Cost
All around terrific boot.
January 02, 2009
This boot is not only very warm and comfortable, but looks somewhat stylish as it is not too bulky. I have a very high instep and many boots are not tolerable on my foot. However these are not too tight on the instep and the toe box is roomy . These boots look cute with everything! I would highly recommend them.
Waterfall snow boots
February 05, 2007
These boots are just fabulous! So warm and comfortable. It has been an unusually cold and snowy winter here in Colorado, which is what prompted me to purchase these boots. I just love them! FYI...after reading the reviews about these boots on Altrec's website, I ordered an 8 1/2, but ended up having to order a size 8, which is what I normally wear in a shoe and/or boot.
Good boot for cold days!
January 21, 2007
I am from Florida so when I moved west, I needed something to keep my non-acclimated extremities warm. The Waterfall boot was great for that purpose. It did run a half size small. I ordered a full size larger to accommodate thick socks but the heel is too large, so I would recommend ordering just a 1/2 size larger than normal. Cute shoe also!
great overall boot
February 14, 2009
My adult daughter came to visit and didn't have any boots for the unexpected weather that we are subjected to living in New England; so she borrowed these boots. She couldn't believe how warm and comfortable they were. One month later, I am buying another pair for myself. This boot is stylish yet you don't give up the warm for fashion. I did not order a size up like most and the zipper has not been a problem for me.
November 08, 2011
Boots are very warm and fit well. Fit true to size. I live in an area where it is snowy, cold ect. These boots worked very well for NEPA. My daughter also wants to wear the boots as she is the same size as me.
I am loving these boots!
January 09, 2009
The Stout color is perfect. It's dark enough to go with black pants or jeans. The furry cuff is cute so you can tuck pants into the boot for a more stylish look. I have very cold feet all the time and these boots actually keep my feet warm all the time. I have taken them to the ski resort, on mountain hikes, around town and to work.
Love these boots they are super warm.
February 04, 2007
I wore the exact size in these that I do in any shoe. They are kind of stiff and I have had to wear them in, but they really are great.
February 05, 2011
These boots were exactally what I was looking for but, sadly they were too wide for my narrow feet. Even with heavy socks they were sloopy on my feet. No way I go go for a ling walk in them. They appear to be warm and of excellent quality. I did get the Sorel Snow Angels zip boot and they fit perfectly even though I ordered 1/2 sige larger.Pros: Build quality, Ease of use, Great value
November 17, 2009
I love these boots! Our Colorado winters are filled with great deep snows (just got 9 inches this weekend) followed by Chinook winds which warm us up to 60 degrees melting everything in sight. These guys are perfect for all conditions. I've sent your website to my friends as well.
they are ok
February 02, 2010
I really like the looks of these boots, but for the price, I would have thought they would have had more arch support in them. Also, they are tight around the ankle, but I am sure they will break in. I wore them out when we went eagle watching and they kept my feet warm. They are true to size.
March 10, 2006
Great boots, keeps you warm even when you are inactive outside.
January 21, 2008
These boots are really warm. I ordered them a half size bigger in the beginning but returned them for the size I normally ware. Even after this I wasn't really sure I wanted to keep them because the were just really tall and wide on my narrow foot, but after putting an extra insole in they fit great.
May 02, 2011
Good boots. Good looking, warm and waterproof. They were also a great price. It was an easy purchase with no problems. The only annoying part is that they will post this review unless I write more. It said "review text is too short." It was smooth sailing until trying to come up with more to say. Seriousl though, no complaints.
January 23, 2006
love the boots~! very warm, looks good with all my outfits, and totally waterproof. not too tight--i can fit my skinny jeans into boots with no problem. just make sure to get a 1/2 to 1 size bigger than your normal shoe size.
I love these boots!
January 15, 2007
I'm really impressed with how comfortable these boots are. I didn't find the size to be off, like other people mentioned. These boots are super warm, and waterproof. I love them! If I could afford to, I'd buy a second pair in a different color!
October 22, 2011
I got these boots because I do a lot of walking in the winter months. The boots seemed very warm, but the suede material was already marked up and dingy looking when I received them. I wasn't sure how well it would hold up to the large amount of salt that is used on the streets in my area... I also didn't like how the boot looked when on my foot- it looked very clunky. The top of the boot didn't hold its shape very well, and the ankle was very stiff. I can't say if they would have kept my feet warm in deep snow because I returned because it looked and felt too clunky.Pros: warmth, Cons: appearance
Great for snow and slush but stretched out fast
April 09, 2009
Had these boots before, reordered my same size. Much wider this year and stretched out faster than expected. I just double up on socks, they still keep me warm and dry. Next time I will check out sizing before reordering.
Great boots, but bought in MY SIZE
January 12, 2007
I found that I fit my size. At first I bought a half size larger (7.5 instead of 7), but these were too big in my opinion. I plan to wear them only with a thin sock or ski sock though, as the lining is very warm!
December 27, 2005
I do not like these boots at all. They may keep your feet warm but they're very heavy and very uncomfortable. I'm sending them back.
Great Winter Boots!
November 11, 2010
My daughter got tired of boots that are just not warm enough or that last. I have always loved Sorel and she was excited to try this pair. They are warm, soft, extremely well made and she can't wait to get out in the snow with them! Not sure about the waterproof element given that they haven't been out in the precipitation, but we are hoping for great things! My Sorels lasted 14 years in MN and NY!!Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Performance, Ease of use, Cons: Cost
June 12, 2009
They definitely keep your feet warm. I ended up following some of the reviews and getting a half size larger. I somewhat regret that. They are a pinch too big. Mine are even a bit wide. Regarding the zipper there is no problem with it going all the way to the top.
January 09, 2009
Comfortable, warm boot even in freezing conditions. Hard to beat Sorel Cute too.
January 07, 2006
A little to stiff and the zipper rubs against the leg but these boots are very warm
Best Snow Boot I've Ever Had!
February 28, 2010
They are warm, waterproof and easy to walk in. Very Comfortable. Perfect height for everyday use.Order your true size.
February 09, 2010
Excellent boot! These boots are comfortable and very warm.
Warm boots but heavy and not wide enough
February 13, 2008
I would not say these are the most comfortable boots I have ever worn. These boots are very heavy. They are not wide enough in the calf area, so I can almost never have my jeans tugged away. I mostly wear a size 8, so I ordered a size 9 going by the sizing chart. Fits me well except it is tighter at the calf. Plus points are, these boots are very warm and keep my feet very cozy. They are water resistant and snow resistant, all that good stuff.
January 28, 2009
I have to admit that I was slightly hesitant when I saw reviews of bad zippers, tight calves, and stiffness. However, I ordered these (in a half size larger!) and I absolutely LOVE them! I noticed some of the less favorable reviews were from a few years ago, so maybe the design has been slightly updated since then. All in all, a great boot. They look cute, are super comfortable, and keep my feet warm and dry -- what more could you ask for?
November 15, 2009
These boots are comfortable and very warm. The fit was perfect! I ordered my regular size.
February 09, 2011
I love these boots. I bought these boot to walk my dog in the snowy winters in Chicago and they have been well worth it. They are very warm and waterproof and easy to get on and off.
Pair I got was not "water proof"
January 22, 2011
I would definitely recommend these boots for comfort, warmth, easy on/off and traction (except for of ice). I bought the boots last month. A friend recommended them, she's had them for five years and her pair is truly water proof and she can't say enough good things about them. I walk dogs and last week I had the opportunity to really test how water proof my pair is. After walking through many ankle deep puddles I could tell there was some leakage. I'm planning to exchange the boots through Altrec for another pair of the same boots and hope the next pair will be truly water proof.
December 05, 2010
I walk my dogs daily and have found this boot to keep my feet warm in 10 degree snowy weather for several hours at a time. I purchased both a 9.5 and a 10 and use the 9.5 for a tighter fit (I usually wear a 9.5) when wearing thinner socks, and the 10 for thick socks and a little more toe wiggling room for longer hikes. I have big calves and find the zipper does not always stay all the way up, but that I hardly notice this due to the excellent design of the zipper enclosure which blocks out snow and cold despite the zipper not being fully closed. My foot fits in both sizes very comfortably and snuggly. I don't' find either size clunky or clumsy. The treads grip on packed snow and makes walking steady and comfortable - even when being pulled along by snow loving dogs! Fulfilled all my expectations and my highest hopes for a daily walking boot in very cold snowy weather.Pros: Build quality, Performance, Ease of use
Definately warm and dry but not wide enough at the calf portion
February 28, 2007
Really good boots. I walked in about 5 inches deep snow and they still kept my feet WARM AND DRY!!!! My only complain is that they are not wide enough at the calf. I can barely get the zipper to close especially if I am putting them even over narrow jeans. Also I ordered 1/2 size bigger reading previous reviews and that was the right thing to do.
Quality Boot...does not run big!
January 16, 2010
I just got these boots, and because the other reviews warned they run a half size small, I ordered an 8 (usually 7.5) and they are too big! Even with thick socks they are too big, so I will be exchanging for a 7.5. But they are great quality and very nice.
great, warm boot
April 04, 2007
I use them for snowshoeing on days with very low temperatures. I like them very much. They are lightweight, comfortable, warm and dry. The only problem I had so far is when the temperatures are in the 30s and the snow heavy and wet. After about 4 hours into the trip I had wet feet. It seems that after hours in wet snow, the water penetrated the boots.
January 28, 2007
I had to wear them a few times to break them in, but now they are very comfortable, waterproof and warm. I bought the same size I buy for workout shoes and that worked fine for me.
Love These Boots
October 22, 2010
These boots are even cuter out of the box than they are on screen. So cute, I expect I'll wear them even when it's not snowing outside this winter. I ordered the flax color, and it's dark (more gray/brown, not "pale") ... so it will go nicely with dark colors. I usually wear a 7...ordered a 7 first time (too small)...ordered a 7.5 and actually have decided to return them for an 8. I expect them to last for many years, and want to be able to wear them with any thickness of sock.
Warm and comforatble
October 15, 2010
I purchased these boots for everyday Vermont winter wear as well as for winter hiking and showshoeing. They have been very warm, comfortable and waterproof. They are a little hard for me to get off easily but I have a high instep and this is not uncommon for me. Also sometimes they do not seem to stay zipped up but again this may be individual differences because I do have wider than normal calves.Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance
January 10, 2006
I really am satisfied with the boot over all. The only problem I had with it was the zipper. Due to the angle of it up the side of the boot I found it a little difficult to zip at first. Through wearing the boot though, and breaking it in a little it has become easier to zip. I am just hoping the zipper is strong and will last. So I guess the bottom line is that this is a durable, comfortable and attractive boot with a zipper that could be improved. To clarify, the zipper is in good working condition, and it is only a possibility that it might brake. Over all I am very satisfied with this product.
Love these Boots
January 28, 2007
Boots are very comfortable and warm. I highly recommend them. I am very happy with this purchase!!!
March 07, 2006
awesome fit, very comfy
functional yet stylish winter boot
January 02, 2006
Seems true to size but is a bit wide throughout the top of the foot. Other than that this is a great winter boot!
February 20, 2006
This boot is warm, supportive, comfortable, and looks great. Fantastic quality at an excellent price. Do make sure to order 1/2 size larger that usual as it runs a little short.
November 13, 2009
We are an Army family PCSing to Alaska. I needed something affordable and certified to -40F. Not only does this boot meet those requirements, it is extremely comfortable and lighter weight than I had anticipated. The ankle and lower calf fit is perfect and is still stabilizing. I wear an 8.5 normally, and ordered an 8.5 boot. I am glad I did! With heavy socks, the fit is perfect. I also thought the color matches the picture exactly. Buy this boot!!
I love these boots!
January 01, 2008
I did not find that I needed to go up a half size. I have not tested them in deep snow, but for cold and sloppy conditions they have stayed very warm and dry. They are very comfortable and so light compared to my old boots that I forget I have snow boots on sometimes.
I like this boot
December 05, 2009
However it runs .5 size small. I ordered the 8.5, regretfully, it is not true to size.. need a size 9. The boot is very practical and fun.
