Spyder is the largest ski-specialty brand in the world, and is truly a company designed 'for racing, by racers.' The company began over 30 years ago, when accomplished ski racer David Jacobs noticed that there was only one brand of ski sweaters available on the market. Jacobs designed a new product line which he tested on the racing community. The company, originally David L Jacobs, quickly expanded into ski pants with yellow striped pads, which were noted to look like 'spider' legs. The name 'Spyder' was thus born, and the black widow icon would soon become ubiquitous in the world of ski racing.

In 1989, Spyder became an official supplier to the US Ski Team, a partnership that has continued until today.
