Spyder Kyd's Rival Jacket:
With the versatility of a jacket and the cool comfort of a vest, Spyder's versatile Kyd's Rival Jacket keeps kids comfortably covered all season. This waterproof and breathable ski jacket features zip-off sleeves with a handy storage pocket in back that holds the sleeves until the weather or seasons change. Spyder added armhole wind cuffs along the shoulder openings to reduce wind penetration, but unlike shell and microshell convertible jackets, the Kyd's Rival offers consistent insulation throughout the torso (although it might be a little too warm on some spring skiing days). Spyder treated the durable full-dull nylon fabric with a special XT coating that penetrates the fabric and forms a honeycomb pore structure that lets vapor escape while keeping exterior water droplets outside the jacket. A Spylon water repellent finish helps keep the droplets from consolidating and saturating the pores. Unlike some ski hooded ski jackets, the Rival Jacket has a temporary rollaway hood that cleanly tucks into the elevated collar. This configuration works well for kids who ski with helmets and don't require a hood in all but the most extreme downpours. Inside the Rival are many of the same sorts of extras found on Spyder's adult jackets--music player pocket, mesh goggle pocket, attached chamois lens wipe and more. If features and weather protection matter most and you don't need the zip off sleeve (or you're afraid that your kid might lose a sleeve), check out Spyder's Challenger Jacket.
