Description

Tough enough for the outdoors, stylish enough for mandatory workplace socials, the St. Moritz Atlas Watch sports refined field watch fashion that won't break on you while hiking, climbing and camping. The solid titanium case is lightweight and uncluttered. Unlike the glowing field watches of old, the St. Moritz Blackout superluminous material in the Atlas Watch isn't radioactive, but it still glows for hours after being exposed to bright light for 30 minutes. Just choose one of the classy wristbands from our selection and you're ready to go.

Cutting no corners
December 26, 2011

First off, I am a bit of a watch geek. I usually do not go for quartz watches, preferring automatic movements. However, I was looking for a rugged, classy "field style" watch that was genuinely waterproof for daily office and outdoorsy wear. Well, this is it. The Ti case is extremely well executed, and the option to get a sapphire face is a rare treat on a quartz watch. Many watches in this price range have Chinese movements these days, but this is a solid Japanese movement. Sure, I would have preferred a Swiss quartz movement like the higher-end Momentums, but Japanese is fine. One small quibble is that the ticking second hand -- I'm used to the smooth sweep of an automatic movement -- doesn't precisely line up with the second indicators on the dial. Most, but inexplicably not all, ticks hit a tiny fraction of a mm behind or ahead of the mark. It's no dive watch, but the screw-down crown makes it more than water resistant enough for swimming, hot tubs, fishing, dishwashing, rafting, etc. Many similar field watches have only a 30m or 50m pressure rating but the Atlas cuts no corners with a true 100m rating. Keep in mind that all watch WR ratings are not literally diving depths, but a standardized pressure test. The styling blends the classic field watch with a hip, modern sensibility, but lacking the caroonish numerals or cluttered dials of many fashion watches you see these days. The lume is excellent. The technocarbon strap was a nice surprise. I had expected to replace it but ended up loving it on its own. It is leather-backed, burly, very high quality, and the "carbon" weave pattern is more subtle than the photos might indicate. St. Moritz/Momentum is generating some buzz on watch geek forums about really paying attention to details, sourcing good components at a good price point and doing most of their assembly in Vancouver. After receiving this watch for Christmas, I understand the buzz. From the lume-tipped second hand, the precise knurling on the crown, the flush fit of the strap ends, arriving set to the correct time, and even quality springbars, they're cutting no corners even where they could.

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Lasts forever, Great value, higher-end features
Cons: second hand hits slightly off mark

Excellent watch
April 18, 2011

I wear this watch every day at work on a college campus and occasionally hiking (I prefer a cheaper digital when outside). What I can say after 6 ish months of daily wear is that I really like the watch. The face looks brand spanking new (very tough and scratch resistant) and the numbers glow brightly after being exposed to light. The cordura band took a little while to break in and is looking a little worn with some very minor fuzzys developing around the edge. I got the black on black as it looks sharp and can be dressed up or down. I originally ordered the red face, but found the color to be a little to pinkish for my liking. Overall a really great lightweight and comfortable watch.

Pros: Great design, Build quality

Best field watch
December 26, 2009

After a long search I finally found what I was looking for - the perfect field watch: rugged, and simple yet elegant. I have supplemented mine with a zagg shield for the crystal and a maratac bond strap and it looks great!

Classy, yet tough
October 08, 2009

Happy with my purchase of the Atlas. Easy to read, comfortable, classy looking, and rugged enough for outdoor sports and trail building. I was hesitant to get the cordura band, thinking a $100+ watch should have more, but the cordura doesn't look or feel cheap at all. This is definitely nicer than the Timex Expedition it replaced, and the included hard case is a nice touch.

This is an excellent watch

I love the watch. I have used it working outdoors, swimming (fresh and salt water), and it is very scratch resistant and water tight. I definitely recommend it.

I love this new watch!

I love the red dial and the cordura band. It works as a dress watch or as a casual watch. The numbers are large and easy to read, even with my arms full of whatever I am carrying. I appreciate the night glow.

Great watch!

I purchased the Green Dial w/Khaki Cordura Band. The watch is very light. With its large face, the watch is easy to read. The sapphire crystal appears to be very scratch resistant. The watch is a very good value for the money.

by far the BEST quality field watch for the $$$
September 08, 2007

i have several watches from St. Moritz - the Atlas being my favourite. for the money, this watch's quality trumps the competition. it is light, has a screw down crown, clean face, and accurate movement. i still own a St. Moritz Himalaya, the Atlas predecessor - but the new generation Atlas is a superior rework. the sapphire crystal w/ leather band is the best combination. if you are looking for a solid, practical, all around watch for the office or the outdoors, the Atlas is a great choice!!!

exellent so far!
April 10, 2007

Great watch--only hard for me to see at night in the dark --but thats just my tired eyeballs! I swim in the ocean with it and never take it off. Nice low profile. Altrec is great to deal with!

nice watch great price highly recommended

i searched for this watch in many locations , altrec had the best selection , best price and i found out .. great customer service !!

Very pleased
January 21, 2007

My watch arrived in three days with free shipping.Nice job altrec.I really like the simplicity of this watch. It is very light, you hardly know you are wearing it.The leather band seems a bit flimsy and I may end up replacing it.In all I am very pleased.A waterproof watch with a screw down crown under a hundred bucks is hard to beat.I'll do business with altrec again. Also, the staff was very helpful when I placed my order.

Excellent, comfortable watch!
June 26, 2006

I owned this watch and gave it away to a friend. I missed the thing and bought this new model from Altrec. My old Himalaya suffered from only one defect: the battery died within a few short months. I am told that St. Moritz cured the problem--time will tell.... But the watch itself is terrific. Great design and light weight make this Atlas Titanium first-rate.

Yep, the battery...
October 01, 2005

I'm on my second battery in two years and neither lasted more than six months. I took it to Iraq with me (where the battery crapped out the first time), but I wouldn't take it again because of this problem. However, if you're not on a 12 month deployment to a war zone, I doubt you could find better for the price. I absolutely love this watch and highly recommend it.

Cool watch at a great price.
January 09, 2005

The watch is really nice. I have the khaki band. It's very light and comfotable. The titanium case is great. The superluminus is so cool also. It glows for a long time and looks awesome.

tougher than I am...
January 05, 2005

I like to think I'm an active guy, but I'm no Gi-Joe action figure with jointed knees and elbows; I'm a regular guy who does fun things on weekends and such. I'm also a clumsey guy at times, and I've broken too many watches. I'm happy to report that the only achilles in this watch is the battery! I've dropped it at airline metal-detectors, scuba-dove, whitewater-rafted, rockclimbed, snowboarded, worked server racks, changed oil filters, changed tires, changed lanes, changed my mind, and done my daily exercise with this watch. I take it off only to avoid scratching my girlfriend. The band is cracked from extremes, but still functional, and the watch looks like new, just not buffed. Not a scratch on the crystal. ...but my battery died! Augh! I strongly recommend this watch.
