Great Watch!
December 06, 2010

I bought this watch because of it's positive reviews and ease of use. So far it's been spot on. The altimeter is easy to set once you know your current elevation and the barometer feature deffinitley gives ma an edge when preparing for weather changes. I haven't figured out how to use the compass yet but I'm "Old Skool" and would rather use a traditional method of map and compass for that purpose any way. Get this watch!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance, Ease of use, Great value

Perfect for me
August 11, 2006

I've been using Suunto Vectors for 4 years now and they are by far my watch of choice. I currently own three. The reason it's my #1 choice? I use the altimeter function with my powered paraglider. By using the vector as my daily timepiece I never have to worry about forgetting it when I go to fly. Use is simple and reliable, I reset (zero) it before flight and it's never let me down. Ten foot increments are perfect for easy reference and the display size is plenty large enough to see when taking a quick glance in flight. Water hasn't been an issue the half dozen times I've taken it swimming, I've always taken care changing batteries. Only now have I ordered a batter change kit with a new battery hatch, O-ring & battery. I like that I can replace the hatch for a few dollars. Support by Suunto has been amazing, I hit my first vector on something in the course of the day and took off the benzel. Never found it, but a quick call to Suunto USA and a new ring and spring set was on its way the next day, no charge. Five minute and a pair of tweezers and the watch looks and functions good as new. Suunto's got it all, great products, fantastic customer support, and even a catch phrase: Suunto - Replacing Luck.

I'd buy it again.

A great watch but beware of the big buttons that tend to get bumped and change the displayed function stressing your battery life. Maybe the next model will have some raised edges on it to help out some.

Watchband is a nightmaer..
August 08, 2008

...if your dog eats the original. The replacement band options - at least through REI - are a waste of time. Clearly designed by engineers (with a marketing edge) the velcro option is completely worthless. REI stopped carrying them so getting a replacement band was difficult and the one I eventually got was not a perfect fit and is so non-user-friendly I wonder if they'll be out of business soon. Love the watch itself, but the bands are so poorly designed they take away any benefits the watch has. There has to be better products out there. Do more research, ask around.

My favorite altimeter
October 26, 2005

I picked one up as a "my deal" on Altrec. It definitely does what it's made to do. I like it better than my old Altimax because the compass feature allows me to take bearings. I also love the mango color. Altrec is the best.

good, perfect jumble of features

this product is lots of fun to use. the barometer allows you to track weather patterns from your watch, and the compass is very accurate. the altimeter is among the best i have seen in watches, however the altimeter DOES still drift even with the safegaurds. usually it will be fairly accurate unless a big storm comes through, though. but you should still know the reference altitude of your base-camp so you can set it before you start to insure better accuracy. all in all this watch is a great buy, but if you are a billionaire, i would get the one with the GPS!

GREAT

Very Good Watch
August 24, 2008

Very good watch. I had my last one for eight years - had to have it repaired once, and changing the battery can be a pain (because, the battery cover tends to get stuck) - but basically, its a high quality instrument.

Great Watch
December 21, 2010

Honestly, once I received the watch my first reaction was that it was too complicated. However, once I read the quick start guide and played with it a bit I realized that it wasn't as complicated as I had originally thought. In fact, once you get used to it, it's quite simple. There are a ton of great features on this watch, and for the hiker, biker, adventurist, survivalist, and everyday outdoorsman you can't beat it!

Pros: Great design, Build quality, Performance

had it forever
August 14, 2006

I've owned a vector ever since they came out, so a good 7 years. My first one was replaced free, and the second keeps ticking. Awesome features, I still don't know how to use all of them. My only problem is the waterproofness issue. I got caught on the bike in a rainstorm, and even that caused condensation under the bezel. I would also reccomend the face shield if you plan on doing any climbing, as the face gets scratched to hell. Great watch...

Nice features
September 15, 2005

I've owned one for 5 years, it's been great for hiking and mountain climbing, very good altimeter for a watch. One very strong weakness I have found is that they are only moderately water resistant. This is actually my second Suunto Vector and both got water in them when swimming, the first was covered under warranty, the second was not and it was ruined. I contacted there service center via e-mail with the problem and they did not have a solution. My advise would be to purchase a new o-ring seal on the battery compartment every time you change the battery. And I will probably purchase another one.

Reliable Watch
November 21, 2010

I purchased the Suunto Vector to use as an everyday watch. Overall the watch has been very reliable. Many of the features I haven't used but they are there when/if I need them. The only drawbacks that I've noticed are: (1) the bezel is plastic so it scratches eventually and (2) the alarm is too quiet. Overall I would recommend this watch.

Pros: Build quality, Ease of use, Great value

Lots of features!
December 20, 2004

This watch has it all! Well maybe not quite all the gadgets you can have on a watch, but most of the ones you actually need! At first it seems a bit overwhelming, but once you get down the basics, it's great. The altimeter is excellent for use on our hikes, and the barometer too! Definitely a good purchase.

great watch!

The vector is a great watch. I have two of these watches. The manual is very easy to understand and makes it easy to learn how to use this watch. The functions are super responsive and have helped me with the log books.
