Great FAST dayback. Lousy book bag.
August 18, 2009
This pack has a very focused design. It is designed to be lightweight and FAST for a minimalist hiker/long distance runner. The straps are very thin mesh with barely any padding but they feature excellent adjustment allowing the pack to be worn VERY snug. The back panel is an awesome rigid foam with excellent lumbar support and ventilation. The fabric is very thin ripstop nylon and other lightweight materials to save weight. The overall shape of the pack is very streamlined and tapers to the top opening with compression straps. The combo of lightweight fabric, thin straps and streamlined shape makes this a very poor bag for a school bag or book bag. The same combo makes it fantastic as a fast daypack.

Great backpack all around. Can use for hiking or anything even for school.
The best backpack I have ever owned.

I purchased this backpack about 20 days ago so that it would be delivered before the first day of my freshman year in high school. It has the characteristics that I wanted and I knew it would be a great backpack for school. When I was reading the comments about "a lousy book bag" I was a little worried. Once I got it and put my belongings into it, I was amazed that someone would think that it is a lousy book bag. I have been one week with my Angstrom 30 Backpack and absolutely love it. It is comfortable and has plenty of compartments. Also, I have to say it looks cool too. As soon as I use this one until I can't anymore, I will be ordering the same exact one. Awesome backpack.
Fantastic Backpack

An extremely comfortable backpack with all the bells and whistles to match. The straps are a tad long though but they can be tucked and hidden away with ease. The padding and breatheability of the backpack is extraordinary and is defintiely worth the buy.
Awesome backpack.

The backpack looks really good and has many useful compartments. The strap, though, is a little uncomfortable.
Excellent backpack

Exactly what I was looking for: laptop friendly and outdoor friendly.

A perfect bag. I use it as my work bag and I love it. Documents, laptop, lunch and umbrella all fit nicely and I still have plenty of room. I bought the bag on sale so price wise it was a must have. I just purchased it about 2 weeks ago so I can't judge the durability.

The best backpack around!

I purchased this pack for several reasons, one I live in the tropics and needed a light, cool pack. Second I needed a pack that fit well, had lots of compartments and when closed was secure for traveling around. The North Face Angstrom 30 Backpack met all these requirements with the most comfortable fit. After trying many different packs, this will be my one and only pack from now on!

My son bought the Angstrom 30 backpack for school in September but had the opportunity to test it during our vacation recently. The backpack is very easy to travel with, it's light, spacious and easy on the back even with heavy load. My son used it during the entire travel to carry weight of about 30-40 pounds. He carried it while climbing and walking long distances. One suggestion to improve the bag is to add elastic band to the water bottle compartment. As it is now, it's rather loose so sometimes the water bottle would fall out of it. Other than that, we highly recommend this bag to anyone.
Great multipurpose backpack

The Angstrom is a very well built and extremely light backpack. I don't do much hiking and so I use this mainly for carrying laptop computers. Both my 14" and 16" laptops fit in this this perfectly. The outer front compartment (no zipper) is perfect for those last minute items that I need to cram in without taking the time to unzip and zip. The velcro secured mesh inner pockets are great for small electronic items and saves the time of otherwise digging through your other stuff. The one thing I would change are the outer elastic side pockets. I did not realize that they have a hole at the bottom corner of each one (this is by design). I almost lost some AA batteries while transporting. For those curious to the size of the holes, a 9volt battery fits perfect through them without much resistance. Overall this is a well-built and great looking backpack!

Nice daypack

I bought this as a somewhat smaller daypack than my older Marmot which I have had for many years and use frequently. I picked this pack for an overseas trip. It is probably half the weight of the Marmot and yet still 2/3's the size. It is not as tall but still has a great setup for the pockets with a half deep divider in the outside pocket so smaller items stay near the top of the pack and a water bladder divider in the main compartment. The waist strap is plenty long enough for my oversize belly, the sternum strap slides up or down very easily to create the perfect position for comfort. The water bottle pockets are fine and the included rain cover fits in it's own pocket behind one of the water bottles. That's a great feature. In short I love the setup. The material is definitely lighter weight and it's durability is untested but it seems sturdy and of high quality. In short, a great product!
